    Mood disorders in high-functioning autism : the importance of alexithymia and emotional regulation

Alexithymia and emotion regulation difficulties are commonly seen in individuals with ASD and in mood disorders. We hypothesized that alexithymia and emotional regulation would mediate the relationship between autistic features and anxiety/depression symptom severity. We collected data about emotional regulation, alexithymia, autistic symptoms and depression/anxiety in a sample of 64 young adults with ASD. We constructed two serial multiple mediator models, using autistic features as the independent variable and anxiety/depression symptoms as outcome variables. The serial relationship between alexithymia and emotional regulation mediated associations between autistic features and depression and anxiety, separately. The findings suggest that targeting alexithymia may benefit therapies designed to alleviate mood disorders in ASD.PostprintPeer reviewe

    The relationship between second-to-fourth digit (2D:4D) ratios and problematic and pathological Internet use among Turkish university students

    The ratio of the second and fourth fingers (2D:4D ratio) is a sexually dimorphic trait, with men tending to have lower values than women. This ratio has been related to prenatal testosterone concentrations and addictive behaviors including problematic video-gaming. We aimed to investigate the possible association between 2D:4D ratios and Internet addiction and whether such a relationship would be independent of impulsivity. Methods A total of 652 university students (369 women, 283 men), aged 17–27 years, were enrolled in the study. Problematic and pathological Internet use (PPIU) was assessed using the Internet Addiction Test (IAT). The participants also completed the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale (version 11; BIS-11) and had their 2D:4D ratios measured. Results 2D:4D ratios were not significantly different in women with PPIU and in those with adaptive Internet use (AIU). Men with PPIU exhibited lower 2D:4D ratios on both hands when compared with those with AIU. Correlation analysis revealed that 2D:4D ratios on both hands were negatively correlated with IAT scores among men, but not among women. The multiple linear regression analysis revealed that age, duration of weekly Internet use, impulsiveness, and 2D:4D ratios on the right hand were independently associated with IAT scores among men, and impulsivity did not mediate the relationship between 2D:4D ratios and PPIU. Conclusions For men, 2D:4D ratios on the right hand were inversely correlated with Internet addiction severity even after controlling for individual differences in impulsivity. These findings suggest that high prenatal testosterone levels may contribute to the occurrence of PPIU among men

    AGN STORM 2. I. First results: A Change in the Weather of Mrk 817

    We present the first results from the ongoing, intensive, multiwavelength monitoring program of the luminous Seyfert 1 galaxy Mrk 817. While this active galactic nucleus was, in part, selected for its historically unobscured nature, we discovered that the X-ray spectrum is highly absorbed, and there are new blueshifted, broad, and narrow UV absorption lines, which suggest that a dust-free, ionized obscurer located at the inner broad-line region partially covers the central source. Despite the obscuration, we measure UV and optical continuum reverberation lags consistent with a centrally illuminated Shakura–Sunyaev thin accretion disk, and measure reverberation lags associated with the optical broad-line region, as expected. However, in the first 55 days of the campaign, when the obscuration was becoming most extreme, we observe a de-coupling of the UV continuum and the UV broad emission-line variability. The correlation recovered in the next 42 days of the campaign, as Mrk 817 entered a less obscured state. The short C IV and Lyα lags suggest that the accretion disk extends beyond the UV broad-line region. Unified

    Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb1^{-1} collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773~GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we search for a scalar partner of the X(3872)X(3872), denoted as X(3700)X(3700), via ψ(3770)γηη\psi(3770)\to \gamma\eta\eta' and γπ+πJ/ψ\gamma\pi^{+}\pi^{-}J/\psi processes. No significant signals are observed and the upper limits of the product branching fractions B(ψ(3770)γX(3700))B(X(3700)ηη) {\cal B}(\psi(3770)\to\gamma X(3700))\cdot {\cal B}(X(3700)\to \eta\eta') and B(ψ(3770)γX(3700))B(X(3700)π+πJ/ψ){\cal B}(\psi(3770)\to\gamma X(3700))\cdot {\cal B}(X(3700)\to\pi^{+}\pi^{-}J/\psi) are determined at the 90\% confidence level, for the narrow X(3700)X(3700) with a mass ranging from 3710 to 3740 MeV/c2c^2, which are from 0.8 to 1.8 (×105)(\times 10^{-5}) and 0.9 to 3.4 (×105)(\times 10^{-5}), respectively

    Measurement of branching fractions of Λc+\Lambda_{c}^{+} decays to Σ+K+K\Sigma^{+} K^{+} K^{-}, Σ+ϕ\Sigma^{+}\phi and Σ+K+π(π0)\Sigma^{+} K^{+} \pi^{-}(\pi^{0})

    Based on 4.5 fb1^{-1} data taken at seven center-of-mass energies ranging from 4.600 to 4.699 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we measure the branching fractions of Λc+Σ++hadrons\Lambda_{c}^{+}\rightarrow\Sigma^{+}+hadrons relative to Λc+Σ+π+π\Lambda_{c}^{+}\rightarrow \Sigma^+ \pi^+ \pi^-. Combining with the world average branching fraction of Λc+Σ+π+π\Lambda_{c}^{+}\rightarrow \Sigma^+ \pi^+ \pi^-, their branching fractions are measured to be (0.377±0.042±0.018±0.021)%(0.377\pm0.042\pm0.018\pm0.021)\% for Λc+Σ+K+K\Lambda_{c}^{+}\rightarrow\Sigma^{+} K^{+} K^{-}, (0.200±0.023±0.010±0.011)%(0.200\pm0.023\pm0.010\pm0.011)\% for Λc+Σ+K+π\Lambda_{c}^{+}\rightarrow\Sigma^{+} K^{+} \pi^{-}, (0.414±0.080±0.029±0.023)%(0.414\pm0.080\pm0.029\pm0.023)\% for Λc+Σ+ϕ\Lambda_{c}^{+}\rightarrow\Sigma^{+}\phi and (0.197±0.036±0.008±0.011)%(0.197\pm0.036\pm0.008\pm0.011)\% for Λc+Σ+K+K\Lambda_{c}^{+}\rightarrow\Sigma^{+}K^{+} K^{-}(non-ϕ\phi). In all the above results, the first uncertainties are statistical, the second are systematic and the third are from external input of the branching fraction of Λc+Σ+π+π\Lambda_{c}^{+}\rightarrow \Sigma^+ \pi^+ \pi^-. Since no signal for Λc+Σ+K+ππ0\Lambda_{c}^{+}\rightarrow\Sigma^{+} K^{+} \pi^{-}\pi^{0} is observed, the upper limit of its branching fraction is determined to be 0.11\% at the 90%\% confidence level

    First Observation of a Three-Resonance Structure in e+ee^+e^-\rightarrow{non-open} Charm Hadrons

    We report the measurement of the cross sections for e+ee^+e^-\rightarrow{nOCH} (nOCH stands for non-open charm hadrons) with improved precision at center-of-mass energies from 3.645 to 3.871 GeV. We observe for the first time a three-resonance structure in the energy-dependent lineshape of the cross sections, which are R(3760)\mathcal R(3760), R(3780)\mathcal R(3780) and R(3810)\mathcal R(3810) with significances of 9.4σ9.4\sigma, 15.7σ15.7\sigma, and 9.8σ9.8\sigma, respectively. The R(3810)\mathcal R(3810) is observed for the first time. We found two solutions in analysis of the cross sections. For solution I [solution II], we measure the mass, the total width and the product of electronic width and nOCH decay branching fraction to be (3805.8±1.1±2.7)(3805.8 \pm 1.1 \pm 2.7) [(3805.8±1.1±2.7)(3805.8 \pm 1.1 \pm 2.7)] MeV/c2c^2, (11.6±2.6±1.9)(11.6 \pm 2.6 \pm 1.9) [(11.5±2.5±1.8)(11.5 \pm 2.5 \pm 1.8)] MeV, and (10.8±3.2±2.3)(10.8\pm 3.2\pm 2.3) [(11.0±2.9±2.4)(11.0\pm 2.9\pm 2.4)] eV for the R(3810)\mathcal R(3810), respectively. In addition, we measure the branching fractions B(R(3760){\mathcal B}({\mathcal R}(3760)\rightarrow{nOCH})=(24.5±13.4±27.4)%[(6.8±5.4±7.6)%])=(24.5 \pm 13.4 \pm 27.4)\% [(6.8 \pm 5.4 \pm 7.6)\%] for the first time, and B(R(3780){\mathcal B}(\mathcal R(3780)\rightarrow{nOCH})=(11.6±5.8±7.8)%[(10.3±4.5±6.9)%])=(11.6 \pm 5.8 \pm 7.8)\% [(10.3 \pm 4.5 \pm 6.9)\%]. Moreover, we determine the open-charm (OC) branching fraction B(R{\mathcal B}({\mathcal R}(3760)(3760)\rightarrow{OC})=(75.5±13.4±27.4)%[(93.2±5.4±7.6)%])=(75.5 \pm 13.4 \pm 27.4)\% [(93.2 \pm 5.4 \pm 7.6)\%], which supports the interpretation of R(3760)\mathcal R(3760) as an OC pair molecular state, but contained a simple four-quark state component.     Using 2.93 fb1\rm{fb}^{-1} of e+ee^+e^- collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy 3.773\,GeV, we perform the first amplitude analysis of the decay D+KS0π+π0π0D^+\to K_S^0\pi^+\pi^0\pi^0 and determine the relative magnitudes and phases of different intermediate processes. The absolute branching fraction of D+KS0π+π0π0D^+\to K_S^0\pi^+\pi^0\pi^0 is measured to be (2.888±0.058stat.±0.069syst.)%(2.888\pm0.058_{\rm stat.}\pm0.069_{\rm syst.})\%. The dominant intermediate processes are D+KS0a1(1260)+(ρ+π0)D^+\to K_S^0a_1(1260)^+(\to \rho^+\pi^0) and D+Kˉ0ρ+D^+\to \bar{K}^{*0}\rho^+, with branching fractions of (8.66±1.04stat.±1.39syst.) ⁣× ⁣103(8.66\pm1.04_{\rm stat.}\pm1.39_{\rm syst.})\!\times \!10^{-3} and (9.70±0.81stat.±0.53syst.) ⁣× ⁣103(9.70\pm0.81_{\rm stat.}\pm0.53_{\rm syst.})\!\times \!10^{-3}, respectively

    A coupled-channel analysis of the X(3872)X(3872) lineshape with BESIII data

    We perform a study of the X(3872)X(3872) lineshape using the data samples of e+eγX(3872)e^+e^-\to\gamma X(3872), X(3872)D0Dˉ0π0X(3872)\to D^0\bar{D}^0 \pi^0 and π+πJ/ψ\pi^+\pi^- J/\psi collected with the BESIII detector. The effects of the coupled-channels and the off-shell D0D^{*0} are included in the parameterization of the lineshape. The lineshape mass parameter is obtained to be MX=(3871.63±0.130.05+0.06)M_{X}=(3871.63\pm 0.13^{+0.06}_{-0.05}) MeV. Two poles are found on the first and second Riemann sheets corresponding to the D0Dˉ0D^{*0}\bar{D}^0 branch cut. The pole location on the first sheet is much closer to the D0Dˉ0D^{*0}\bar{D}^0 threshold than the other, and is determined to be 7.04±0.150.08+0.077.04\pm0.15^{+0.07}_{-0.08} MeV above the D0Dˉ0π0D^0\bar{D}^0\pi^0 threshold with an imaginary part 0.19±0.080.19+0.14-0.19\pm0.08^{+0.14}_{-0.19} MeV
