    Parametri kvaliteta plodova kod različitih genotipova paradajza u organskoj proizvodnji

    The aim of this study was to examine the content of total soluble solids, organic acids and lycopene in fruits of different tomato genotypes grown in organic production. Four different genotypes (Volovsko heart Red cherry, Tigrella and Viva) were used during this experiment. The quality of tomato fruits was analyzed based on the measurement of total soluble solids, organic acids and lycopene in fresh weight of the fruit. The values obtained for the analyzed parameters of fruit quality were as follows: total soluble solids 4.98, 5.26, 5.28 and 4.70 (° Brix), organic acids 160.67, 110.34, 132.77 and 116 (citric acid µmol g-1 FW), lycopene, 8.22, 5.70, 7.61, 9.21 (mg kg-1 FW) in genotypes Volovsko srce, Red cherry, Tigrella and Viva. Oscillations in the obtained parameters, especially in the content of lycopene in different genotypes were probably the result of genetic resources, but also the influence of abiotic factors.Cilj ovog istraživanja je bio da se ispita sadržaj ukupnih rastvorljivih suvih materija, organskih kiselina i likopena u plodovima različitih genotipova paradajza gajenog u organskoj proizvodnji. Četiri različita genotipa (Volovsko srce, Red cherry, Tigrella i Viva) su korišćeni tokom ovog eksperimenta. Kvalitet plodova paradajza analiziran je na osnovu merenja ukupnih rastvorljivih suvih materija, organskih kiselina i likopena u svežoj masi plodova. Dobijene vrednosti za analizirane parametre kvaliteta plodova su iznosile: ukupne rastvorljive materije 4.98, 5.26, 5.28 i 4.70 (oBrix), organske kiseline 160.67, 110.34, 116 i 132.77 (citric acid µmol g-1 FW), likopen 8.22, 5.70, 7.61, 9.21 (mg kg-1 FW) kod analiziranih genotipova Volovsko srce, Red cherry, Tigrella i Viva. Variranje u dobijenim parametrima, a naročito u sadržaju likopena kod različitih genotipova su bile posledica genetskog potencijala, ali i uticaja abiotičkih faktora

    Fractional flow reserve of intermediate lesions on collateral donor coronary arteries after myocardial infarction

    Fractional flow reserve (FFR) is the gold standard for the functional assessment of coronary arteries. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relation between angiography, QCA and FFR in borderline lesions on collateral donor coronary arteries. In addition, FFR is compared with the angiographic appearance of collaterals to infarction-related arteries and echocardiographically assessed viability of infarct related the LV wall. In 60 patients with previous IM and occluded IRA, functional assessment of borderline coronary stenosis (30-70% DS) on collaterals donor artery was performed. We have not found statistically significant differences in these parameters between groups with different angiographic appearances of collaterals and different viability of distal myocardium. However, we found higher FFR values in diabetic patients (p=0.018). Higher FFR values in diabetic patients reveal the negative effects of diabetes on collateral growth and myocardial viability

    Fractional flow reserve in patients with intermediate values of Duke Treadmill Score and borderline coronary lesions

    Despite the wide usage of exercise ECG tests and Duke Treadmill Score (DTS) in clinical practice, no comparison between this scoring system and Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) has yet been made, particularly in cases of angiographically verified borderline lesions. Thirty patients with single coronary lesions and angiographically assessed borderline stenosis (between 30-70%) and previously calculated intermediate values of DTS between -10 to +4 were examined using FFR. Adequate specificity and sensitivity (0.769 and 0.556, respectively) were in a more narrow range of -0.5 to -10. Sex and age did not have an influence on the DTS values. There was a correlation between the values of FFR and age (r=0.395, p=0.031) and between angiographic assessment of stenosis and quantitative coronary angiography (QCA) (r=0.648, p<0.0001). In the study population, a decision on revascularization could not be based solely on angiographic or QCA assessment of the artery or on the values of DTS

    Health-related quality of life in elderly patients hospitalized with chronic heart failure

    Background: Chronic heart failure is a very common condition in the elderly, characterized not only by high mortality rates, but also by a strong impact on health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Previous studies of HRQOL in elderly heart failure subjects have included mostly outpatients, and little is known about determinants of HRQOL in hospitalized elderly population, especially in Serbia. In this study, we tried to identify factors that influence HRQOL in elderly patients hospitalized with chronic heart failure in Serbia. Methods: The study population consisted of 136 patients aged 65 years or older hospitalized for chronic heart failure. HRQOL was assessed using the Minnesota Living with Heart Failure questionnaire. Predictors of HRQOL were identified by multiple linear regression analysis. Results: Univariate analysis showed that patients with lower income, a longer history of chronic heart failure, and longer length of hospital stay, as well as those receiving aldosterone antagonists and digoxin, taking multiple medications, in a higher NYHA class, and showing signs of depression and cognitive impairment had significantly worse HRQOL. Presence of depressive symptoms (P<0.001), higher NYHA class (P=0.021), lower income (P=0.029), and longer duration of heart failure (P=0.049) were independent predictors of poor HRQOL. Conclusion: Depressive symptoms, higher NYHA class, lower income, and longer duration of chronic heart failure are independent predictors of poor HRQOL in elderly patients hospitalized with chronic heart failure in Serbia. Further, there is an association between multiple medication usage and poor HRQOL, as well as a negative impact of cognitive impairment on HRQOL. Hence, measures should be implemented to identify such patients, especially those with depressive symptoms, and appropriate interventions undertaken in order to improve their HRQOL.publishedVersio

    Decomposition mechanism and kinetics of zinc–isophthalate complex with 2,2’-dipyridylamine as a precursor for obtaining nanosized zinc oxide

    Studies related to the synthesis of nanosized ZnO as the antibacterial agent have become an interdisciplinary area gathering chemists, physicists, biologists, and medics. The broad scope of materials based on ZnO resulted in the development of various techniques for its preparation. Considering the dependence of particle shape and size onto physical and chemical properties of ZnO, the synthesis procedure is of major importance. In this work, an unconventional methodology of synthesis is proposed for obtaining nanosized ZnO. Polymeric zinc complex containing 2,2’-dipyridylamine (dipya) and dianion of 1,3-benzenedicarboxylic acid (ipht), [Zn(dipya)(ipht)]n, was used as precursor. Besides the crystal structure of [Zn(dipya)(ipht)]n which was already published [1], the luminescent properties are presented in this work. Also, the amazing antibacterial activity of this precursor prompted us to investigate the relationship between the crystal structure and thermal properties, especially if we bear in mind the lack of similar studies in the literature. Therefore, the mechanism and kinetics of its degradation was investigated under non isothermal conditions in nitrogen and air atmospheres. Degradation enthalpies, thermodynamic activation parameters, pre-exponential factor, A, and the apparent activation energy, Ea, were determined for each step using Kissinger’s and Ozawa’s equations. The complexity of degradation steps has been analyzed using isoconversional methods. TG/DCS data were collected at four different heating rates: 10, 15, 20 and 25 ºC min –1 , while the formation of nanosized ZnO was confirmed using XRPD and FESEM techniques. The influence of precursor on the crystallite size and morphology of the resulting ZnO along with its antibacterial activity was examined. The obtained results will be discussed and compared. [1] L.     Color categories for red and blue in Serbian language

    Categorical perception of colors (CPC) refers to the faster discrimination of colors that belong to different categories than colors within the same category. Here we investigated CPC in the Serbian language. Similar to Russian and Greek speakers, Serbian speakers distinguish lighter and darker blues. Serbian also has separate linguistic categories for dark and light red, which is very rare. Participants performed color discrimination tasks for blue and red conditions separately. This was followed by a naming task in which they had to put each presented color in one of the four color-categories (two blue, two red). We categorized trials as between- or within-category, relative to participant’s individual color boundaries. Participants were faster when discriminating between-category than within-category colors. This advantage was present only for physically similar shades while all physically distant shades were discriminated equally fast. Finally, discrimination was faster for reddish than bluish stimuli. CPC was demonstrated for language specific color categories in Serbian. Faster discrimination of red vs. blue targets, a novel finding, could be consistent with the hypothesis that trichromatic color vision is specialized for perception of blood-related modulation of skin appearance

    Airway Rescue using the LMA Supreme™ in the prone position: a case report

    Surgery in prone positioning may pose considerable challenges to Anesthesiologists because of general accessibility to the patient; this is particularly true if referring to airway management, because the airway could be relatively inaccessible while the patient is lying prone. We report a case of an obese women scheduled for lower limbs surgery in the prone position in which the initial anesthetic choice for spinal anesthesia needed to be switched to general anesthesia during the procedure both for the occurrence of surgical complications and because the patient began to become uncooperative. We successfully managed this problem by inserting a LMA SupremeTM leaving the patient in the same prone position, and maintaining anesthesia in mechanical ventilation, thus allowing surgical procedure to be completed uneventfully. The possible options in similar cases and the specific features of LMA SupremeTM which allowed such a choice are discussed

Myocardial infarction (MI) is characterized by a critical myocardial ischemia followed by an irreversible myocardial cell damage or death. Case report. We presented two similar clinical cases with the ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) diagnosis due to a prolonged coronary artery spasm, but with different treatment options due to different basic patophysiological supstrates and clinical presentations. Conclusion. Coronary artery spasm is a very complex pathophysiological entity with a different medication therapy management. Although the percutaneous coronary intervention can be the first choice, the treatment strategy should be carefully planned

    Determinants of health‐related quality of life in children and adolescents living with type 1 diabetes mellitus during the COVID‐19 pandemic

    Abstract Aim To identify the determinants of self‐reported health‐related quality of life in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus during the coronavirus pandemic. Design A cross‐sectional study. Methods The study sample included 182 children and adolescents who had been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes mellitus at least 3 months prior. Data collection instruments included sociodemographic and glycaemic control protocol adherence questionnaires, documentation sheet for recording clinical data, and Serbian versions of the EuroQol‐5D‐Y and KidScreen27 questionnaires, which were used to assess health‐related quality of life. Results Glycaemic control adherence, presence of comorbidities, level of metabolic control, and type of insulin therapy were identified as key determinants of self‐reported health‐related quality of life.
