Controlling Steering Angle for Cooperative Self-driving Vehicles utilizing CNN and LSTM-based Deep Networks

A fundamental challenge in autonomous vehicles is adjusting the steering angle at different road conditions. Recent state-of-the-art solutions addressing this challenge include deep learning techniques as they provide end-to-end solution to predict steering angles directly from the raw input images with higher accuracy. Most of these works ignore the temporal dependencies between the image frames. In this paper, we tackle the problem of utilizing multiple sets of images shared between two autonomous vehicles to improve the accuracy of controlling the steering angle by considering the temporal dependencies between the image frames. This problem has not been studied in the literature widely. We present and study a new deep architecture to predict the steering angle automatically by using Long-Short-Term-Memory (LSTM) in our deep architecture. Our deep architecture is an end-to-end network that utilizes CNN, LSTM and fully connected (FC) layers and it uses both present and futures images (shared by a vehicle ahead via Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication) as input to control the steering angle. Our model demonstrates the lowest error when compared to the other existing approaches in the literature.Comment: Accepted in IV 2019, 6 pages, 9 figure

Trading interactions for topology in scale-free networks

Scale-free networks with topology-dependent interactions are studied. It is shown that the universality classes of critical behavior, which conventionally depend only on topology, can also be explored by tuning the interactions. A mapping, Ī³ā€²=(Ī³āˆ’Ī¼)/(1āˆ’Ī¼)\gamma' = (\gamma - \mu)/(1-\mu), describes how a shift of the standard exponent Ī³\gamma of the degree distribution P(q)P(q) can absorb the effect of degree-dependent pair interactions Jijāˆ(qiqj)āˆ’Ī¼J_{ij} \propto (q_iq_j)^{-\mu}. Replica technique, cavity method and Monte Carlo simulation support the physical picture suggested by Landau theory for the critical exponents and by the Bethe-Peierls approximation for the critical temperature. The equivalence of topology and interaction holds for equilibrium and non-equilibrium systems, and is illustrated with interdisciplinary applications.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure

Reconceptualising Personas Across Cultures: Archetypes, Stereotypes & Collective Personas in Pastoral Namibia

    Get PDF
The paucity of projects where persona is the research foci and a lack of consensus on this artefact keep many reticent about its purpose and value. Besides crafting personas is expected to differ across cultures, which contrasts the advancements in Western theory with studies and progress in other sites. We postulate User-Created Personas reveal specific characteristics of situated contexts by allowing laypeople to design persona artefacts in their own terms. Hence analysing four persona sessions with an ethnic group in pastoral Namibia ā€“ovaHereroā€“ brought up a set of fundamental questions around the persona artefact regarding stereotypes, archetypes, and collective persona representations: (1) to what extent user depictions are stereotypical or archetypal? If stereotypes prime (2) to what degree are current personas a useful method to represent end-users in technology design? And, (3) how can we ultimately read accounts not conforming to mainstream individual persona descriptions but to collectives

Silver(I) triflate-catalyzed protocol for the post-ugi synthesis of spiroindolines

    No full text
A silver(I) triflate-catalyzed protocol for the post-Ugi synthesis of tetracyclic spiroindolines has been developed. The protocol worked best for indole-3-carbaldehyde-derived Ugi adducts obtained using anilines and 3-aryl propiolic acids. Thus, it is complementary to the previous cationic gold-catalyzed procedure that was developed for analogues Ugi substrates derived from aliphatic amines and 3-alkyl propiolic acids. Furthermore, we have demonstrated that under our new settings this domino Friedel-Crafts ipso cyclization / imine trapping process could be efficiently combined with the preceding four-component Ugi reaction into a two-step one-pot transformation
