    Get PDF
This study examined the relationship between equity flows and domestic equity returns using daily aggregate trade data categorized by two foreign investors’ classes; namely foreign institutional and retail investors. To explore the relationship between domestic equity returns and both buy and sale trades of foreign institutional and retail investors, this study employed bivariate vector autoregressive model and impulse response functions. The main finding of this study amongst others indicated that past equity returns do impact the sale trades of both foreign institutional and retail investors; however they are inversely related. The findings indicated that foreign institutional investors sell less during market upswing, while foreign retail investors sell more during upside market momentum. The finding of this study also revealed that there is a temporary impact of foreign retail investors’ buy trades on domestic equity returns, thus supports the information dissemination concept particularly with regard to price momentum

    Get PDF
In the modern agrifood economies, the development of quality management standards is crucial, and food small and medium enterprises (SMEs) usually face difficulties in implementing them. In this context, the aim of the article is two‐fold. Firstly it is to craft an original analytical framework in line with the literature on innovation networks and related learning effects specifically devoted to the study of quality management standards implementation. Secondly the objective of the article is to apply this framework to a specific food SME case in order to test it and to identify the key network learningeffects that occur during the implementation of a quality management standard, namely the ISO 22000 standard for food safety. From this research, the practical output will be to propose tools to enhance food SMEs’ innovative capacity, through an improvement of their insertion in active formal and/or informal innovation networks. These specific tools will be especially targeted towards the strengthening of learning processes between the SME and the partners involved in the implementation

The Adoption of Quality Standards in Food SMEs: A Network Approach

    Get PDF
The contemporary agrifood sectors have witnessed a rapid increase in the use of intangibles, i.e. inputs built upon information, knowledge and communication assets. Consequently firms, in their move towards competitiveness, try to innovate in line with these trends. Innovations in agrifood sectors were traditionally focused around new products and new technologies, and often seen as incremental. Innovations based upon intangibles need a broader view of what is innovation, especially in the context of food SMEs. Indeed food SMEs, which roles in the structuration and dynamism of the food economy in Europe is crucial, have at the same time difficulties and limitations in their innovativeness capacity for intangibles. The main objective of the communication is to better understand the conditions and processes of such innovations from a micro analytical point of view, centered on small and medium enterprises. The research is focused on one type of organizational innovation, the adoption of food quality standards. The communication is structured as follows. In a first part (1) we characterize such innovations in food sectors around two core features: the identification of what is at stake, in terms of resources, competences and structures, when a company adopts such an innovation; and the identification of consequences such an adoption will have in terms of behavior of this company towards its environment. In a second part (2) we suggest addressing this question of innovation adoption through a methodology called social network analysis (hereafter SNA), or structural analysis of networks. This methodology is well appropriated to cope with the complexity and the micro/meso interactions that are essential features for the understanding of quality standard adoption. Then a syncretic analytical framework (3) is proposed, applied to a specific case study of a French food SME adopting an ISO 22000 standard (4). Discussion and concluding comments follow (5)

The current research serves to portray the interlacing maxims which are reflected in the English Department students’ verbal communication and to depict the politeness which is manifested in the realization of those maxims holistically on the basis of the existing context of speech. The research is designed in the descriptive- qualitative-interpretative by means of the interactive model. This model comprises three research lines, namely: data reduction, data display, and data conclusion/ verification. The data for the present research were gathered repeatedly up to they are exhausted. In terms of data reduction, it is carried out by decreasing   the unnecessary utterances or by maintaining the utterances that confirm the graciousness. The utterances that confirm the maxims and graciousness are displayed for having the analysis.  The analysis are verified several times up to the researchers come at the equal conclusion. Accordingly, the research engages a group (class) of students as the research participants and it reveals the sequence of maxims, i.e., (1) the Tact maxim, (2) the Generosity maxim, (3) the Approbation maxim (4) the Modesty maxim, and (5) the Agreement maxim conveyed in the diverse contexts by the English Department students at Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Jambi University
