Academic achievement is an important indicator of student performance in institution of higher learning. Notwithstanding the intensity of investigation on academic performance, the dynamic nature of external environments engender continuous development of teaching and learning in higher learning institutions so as to minimize knowledge asymmetry. Previous studies emphasize on the important of individual needs and cooperative learning on the performance output of students of higher institution. Specifically this study investigates the role of student’s individual needs and cooperative learning on academic performance. Data was collected from 100 undergraduate students at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Multiple regression analysis was employed to test the hypotheses. Findings indicate that individual needs significantly influences academic performance. In addition, cooperative learning mediates the relationship between individual needs and academic achievement, hence partial mediating function of cooperative learning. At the end of this paper, the discussion is presented and the conclusion is discussed

Non-Local Deformation of a Supersymmetric Field Theory

In this paper, we will analyse a supersymmetric field theory deformed by generalized uncertainty principle and Lifshitz scaling. It will be observed that this deformed supersymmetric field theory contains non-local fractional derivative terms. In order to construct such deformed N=1 supersymmetric theory, a harmonic extension of functions will be used. However, the supersymmetry will be only preserved for a free theory and will be broken by the inclusion of interaction terms.Comment: 12 pages, pulished versio

Raising money for whatever purpose can be a daunting process. Great ideas without the financial clout that will turn them into profitable ventures inevitably fizzle out. Crowdfunding, a practice of funding a venture by raising money from a large number of people, has grown in popularity as of late and allowing entrepreneurially skilled individuals to request funding from the public or crowd, which in return will get the product. Yet, this philanthropic platform is still unfamiliar amongst Asian Community due to lack of understanding and technological development within this region. The primary objective of this article is to explain the application of the crowdfunding concept through selected established model for the benefit of society in order to be more aware of this platform. In conclusion, it is hope this article will give advantages for the betterment of socioeconomic and education in Malaysia

Determination of Zone-based Solah Times: A practice in Malaysia

    Get PDF
Zone-based solah times depend on the Earth's orbital movement around the sun. JAKIM has introduced zone-based solah times prescribes the times for the zones or areas. Nevertheless, the on-site calculation of zonal solah times is often informed by geographical and state Islamic affairs administrations. This study aims to survey the practices and methods employed to determine the Malaysian states' zonal solah times, using library research and interview approaches. The findings indicated that two typical methods used are the Westernmost Point and Multipoint Reference. Another alternative method provided by Falak experts is Isotime. A review of three models for knowledge management in healthcare organizations

    Get PDF
The paper discusses previous models constructed for managing knowledge in the context of healthcare organizations. These previous studies are focused on suggesting implementations for the knowledge management’s initiatives that are aimed at optimizing the healthcare services. Three models had been thoroughly reviewed and attention has been addressed to explain the constructs of these models. These constructs include factors, entities and elements involved in the creation, storing, transfer and use of the knowledge within a healthcare organization.Subsequently, a gap analysis has been applied to shed light on the shortcomings of each model and how the proposed framework will overcome them. These shortcomings were synthesized in six themes, these themes were realized from the inclusion of all constructs and factors addressed by the three studied model. The development of the proposed framework (HKMF) is still under study in an ongoing research that aims at optimizing the medical knowledge management within a selected healthcare organization. Further refinements and improvements will be applied to the proposed framework and its elements after the data collection and analysis are completed. The paper concludes with recommendations for future research works and efforts intended enhancing the management of knowledge within healthcare organizations

The Influence of Hand Tool Design on Hand Grip Strength: A Review

    Get PDF
Hand is made up of bones, tendons, ligaments, nerves and blood vessels that can be easily debilitated and injured if the hand tool is not design ergonomically. Recently researchers have examined the effects of individual, environmental and occupational factors on hand grip strength. However, information on the influence of hand tool design on hand grip strength is still lacking. The aim of this paper is to provide a comprehensive review of factors influencing hand grip strength focusing more towards hand tool design factors. The authors searched the journal articles, book and guidelines from the online databases of Google Scholar, ScienceDirect and Pubmed. Fourteen factors of hand tools design were found to have significant effect on the hand grip strength.  The handle size shows the most significant factor for hand grip strength

Pre-operative renal function and selective renal vein rennin levels as markers of favourable outcome in renovascular hypertension

Objective: To evaluate factors that affect outcome following revascularization in patients with renovascular hypertension. Methods: This study was conducted at the Aga Khan University Hospital. It included all the patients diagnosed to have Renovascular hypertension confirmed by renal angiography between July 1996 to September 2000. Using ANOVA (Analysis of variance) and paired-sample t-test, several preoperative factors were evaluated for their ability to predict postoperative improvement of blood pressure and renalfunction. For descriptive purpose patients were divided into cured, improved and failure groups. Results: Of the total 15 patients, 9 were males and 6 were females. Before the surgical procedure, 13 patients were on 3 or more antihypertensive drugs. Eleven patients received vein grafts, three patients had PTFE (polytetraflouroethyline) grafts while one patient underwent angioplasty and stenting. The patients had a median follow-up period of nine months with a range of 2 to 84 months. Five were completely cured, as they became normotensive without antihypertensive therapy after operation, whereas four showed marked improvement in BP control postoperatively, requiring two antihypertensive drugs. Six patients showed no improvement requiring 3 or more drugs. Extended cure or improvement of renovascular hypertension was achieved in nine patients. Normal preoperative serum creatinine level, high preoperative unstimulated peripheral renin levels and renal vein renin ratio of at least 1.75:1 were the most significant predictive factors for favorable outcome. Conclusion: This study confirms the long term effectiveness and safety of renovascular reconstruction in the relief of severe hypertension. The results further suggest that normal preoperative renal function, high renal vein renin ratio and high preoperative unstimulated peripheral renin levels are associated with the most favourable postoperative outcome (p \u3c0.01). Preoperative severity and duration of hypertension and degree of disparity in kidney sizes do not affect the overall results in terms of postoperative improvement in renal function and blood pressure control (p=0.734)
