    The Efficacy of ā€œCare for Child Developmentā€ Intervention on the Improvement of the Development Skills of Orphanage Children

    ObjectivesDevelopment refers to the progressive enhancement of skills and functional capacity, i.e., qualitative changes in the childā€™s functions.The process of development begins before birth and continues throughout life. The present study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the ā€œCare for Child Development (CCD)ā€ program on 4-42 months childrenā€™s developmental skills in orphanages.Materials & MethodsIn this study, two orphanages in the capitals of East and West Azerbaijan provinces were selected using the convenience sampling technique, and thirty children were included. Then, they were randomly divided into two intervention and control groups (each group, N=15). Next, after obtaining consent from the head of the orphanages, a group of volunteers from the healthcare center performed the CCD program, considering childrenā€™s chronological ages (4 to 42 months), for three sessions a week, with each session lasting two hours and it lasted for three months. At the end of the intervention process, the Bayley Scale of Infant and Toddler Development 3rd version (BSID-III) and the Ages and Stages Questionnaire-II (ASQ) were completed for the two intervention and control groups to compare them in the cognitive, motor, communication, and personal-social domains. ResultsComparing the two control and intervention groups using the T-test (difference in mean) indicates that except for the domain of cognitive skills (Bayley: P-value = 0.176), there was statistically a significant difference between the two groups in communication (ASQ: P-value= 0.001; Bayley: P-value = 0.003), motor (ASQ: P-value = 0.000; Bayley: P-value = 0.009), and personal-social (ASQ: P-value <0.000)skills.ConclusionIn the present study, it was concluded that it is required to apply interventions, including standard ones such as the CCD program in environments like orphanages, to enhance the developmental skills of those children living in them Ā  Ā 

    The protective effects of Crocin on testopathy in fat-fed and streptozotocin-treated diabetic rats: An experimental study

    Background: Male hypogonadism is associated with type II diabetes mellitus due to testicular dysfunction. Medicinal plants have received considerable attention for the management of diabetes and its complications. Objective: The aim of present study was to evaluate the anti-diabetic and protective influence of Crocin on testopathy in diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, type II of diabetes mellitus was induced by high-fat diet and low dose of streptozotocin. Male Wistar rats (8 weeks,150ā€“200 gr, 18 rats; n= 6 per group) were divided into a control group (standard diet), diabetic group (streptozotocin+high-fat diet), and treatment group (High fat diet+streptozotocin+Crocin at 20 mg/kg/day, i.p. for 60 days). After 60 days, animals were euthanized, testis and epididymis were dissected, and weights of testes and sperm count were analyzed. Hematoxylin-eosin-stained was done for histopathological examination. Blood samples were collected for the assessment of serum glucose and cholesterol. Results: High-fat diet and streptozotocin significantly increased the serum glucose and cholesterol levels as compared to the control group (pā‰¤ 0. 001). Moreover, there was a significant decrease in the weight of right (p= 0.008) and left testes (pā‰¤ 0.001) and also the total sperm count (p= 0.023) in the diabetic group compared with the control group. Current results also identified that type II diabetes mellitus induced degeneration in the morphology of seminiferous tubules. Application of Crocin could significantly decrease serum glucose and cholesterol levels (p= 0.003). Furthermore, Crocin treatment significantly increased the weight of the right (p= 0.026) and left (p= 0.014) testes and total sperm count (p= 0.000). Also, Crocin could attenuate the pathological changes of the testes in the treatment group. Conclusion: Present findings concluded that Crocin treatment improved diabetic testopathy and impairment of seminiferous tubules induced by high-fat diet and streptozotocin.     INDUCTION OF SPINAL LONG-TERM SYNAPTIC POTENTIATION IS SENSITIVE TO INHIBITION OF NEURONAL NOS IN L5 SPINAL NERVE-TRANSECTED RATS

    The role of neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) in the central mechanism of neuropathic pain and long-term potentiation (LTP) of peripheral afferents remains obscure. The current study investigated the effect of intrathecal application of 7-nitroindazole (7-NI), a selective nNOS inhibitor (8.15 Ī¼g/5Ī¼l), on mechanical allodynia on day 14 after L5 spinal nerve transection. Furthermore, using in vivo single unit extracellular recording, we examined the effect of 7-NI on the induction of LTP of AĪ“- and C-fiber-evoked responses. We have demonstrated that 7-NI attenuates nerve-injury-evoked mechanical allodynia. Additionally, our electrophysiological study has shown that the spinal administration of 7-NI significantly inhibits the induction of the LTP of AĪ“- and C-fiber-evoked responses on day 14 after neuropathy. These data suggest that activation of nNOS may be crucial for the induction of the spinal LTP of AĪ“- and C-fiber-evoked responses following peripheral nerve damage

    The effects of Valerian on sleep spindles in a model of neuropathic pain

    Introduction: Valeriana officinalis is known to be one of the most famous herbal supplements for the treatment of anxiety and insomnia. Despite its widespread use in most countries all around the world, there is little scientific information and research on how this medication affects sleep patterns, and there are almost no studies on its effects on the characteristics of sleep spindles. Material and Methods: The present study was conducted to investigate the effects of Valerian extract (VAL) on sleep spindles and induced anxiety in chronic neuropathic pain model in rats. 24 male rats were divided into three groups: neuropathic group (n=9) in which the rats underwent chronic constriction injury (CCI), sham group (n=7) in which the sciatic nerves of the animals were exposed without any constriction and also fed with the vehicle, and the third group was under CCI condition and treated with Valerian (n=8). All the rats underwent electrode implant surgery so that we could record electroencephalogram and electromyography waves. In all the three groups, EEG and EMG recordings were recorded three times (150min each time). The initial recording was just prior to the CCI surgery and the rest were 3 and 6 days following CCI surgery. Moreover, cold allodynia and elevated plus maze tests were performed 3 and 6 days following the CCI surgery. Results: Valerian treatment could repair the allodynia induced by neuropathy. On the other hand, by Valerian treatment (400mg/kg) during neuropathy, the REM sleep, decreased and the non-REM sleep increased. Moreover, there was an increment in sleep spindle density and spindle frequency even in neuropathic condition. Discussion: This herbal supplement improves the quality of sleep in neuropathy conditions

    Iranian Female Methadone Patients and the Perceived Educational Needs Related to Human Immunodeficiency Virus

    Background: Iranian female methadone patients are at risk of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) due to involvement in high-risk sexual behaviours and/or needle sharing. The present study aimed to explore the perceived educational needs related to HIV among a group of Iranian female methadone patients. Methods:The research design was qualitative and the participants were sampled purposively. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 34 women and 19 clinicians in Sari, Mashhad, and Tehran, Iran. Then, qualitative content analysis was implemented. Findings: The emergence of three major themes and six minor themes was revealed. Women expressed a need to increase their knowledge including women-specific pathophysiology and disease progression and the modes of the virus transmission and prevention. Women also expressed a need to enhance their knowledge and skills related to the physical management of the virus including self-care and reproductive health. Other themes included perceived psychosocial needs including removing stigma and access to resources in the community. Conclusion: Women reported a wide range of educational needs from basic knowledge to advanced skills. The findings can be used in designing women-specific educational programs related to HIV in Iran.     Introduction: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a clinical pathologic condition, which leads to inflammation events in hepatocytes. The objective of present study was to compare the plasma levels of VEGF and sVEGFR-1 as inflammation factors in overweight and obese children and adolescents with and without NAFLD.Ā Materials and Methods: A total sample of 70 overweight and obese children and adolescents (37 boys and 33 girls) were recruited from those admitted to a nutrition clinic in Mashhad, northeastern Iran. The presence of NAFLD was determined by FibroScan, ultrasound and elevation of liver enzyme.     New Ethylenediamine Crosslinked 2D-Cellulose Adsorbent for Nanoencapsulation Removal of Pb (II) and Cu (II) Heavy Metal Ions: Synthesis, Characterization Application, and RSM-Modeling

    The main objective of the present work is to elaborate on a new eco-friendly and efficient adsorbent designated for aquatic micropollutants removal. However, the synthesis of the Ethylenediamine Crosslinked 2D-Cellulose green adsorbent was carried out successfully, by partial grafting of benzyl entities onto hydroxyl groups of HEC, and crosslinking with ethylenediamine ED. Further, the new ethylenediamine crosslinked 2D-Cellulose was used as a biosorbent for nanoencapsulation removal of copper and lead heavy metal ions from aqueous solutions. The proposal chemical structures of unmodified and modified materials were confirmed using FTIR, XRD, TGA, and SEMā€“EDX analysis. Furthermore, many parameters of the optimization for Pb (II) and Cu (II) in terms of removal efficiency including pH, adsorbent amount, and contact time were optimized by response surface methodology with a Boxā€“Behnken design. Based on the desirability optimization with three factors, the maximal removal was 99.52% and 97.5% for Pb(II) and Cu(II), respectively and was obtained at pHĀ =Ā 5.94, 22.2Ā mg as the optimal adsorbent amount, and 21.53Ā min as contact time

    The present study was to investigate the lifestyle and its role on marital satisfaction. The method was used to collect data in this study was a qualitative one. Collection of information, structured interview, a researcher-made questionnaire was used for this purpose. Sampling was purposive. 6 pairs available for this purpose, which are randomly oriented lifestyle were different in Tehran were selected and analyzed. Interviews, after getting off on paper, were analyzed using content analysis. Elements Such as level of education, activities and skills such as reading, watching TV, going to the cinema and theater, reading books, spend leisure time and date in different classes and focus on lifestyle as intended .The results obtained were identical or nearly identical couples with lifestyle compared to couples who have different lifestyles, they had higher marital satisfaction

    Synthesis and investigation of random metal-dielectric as microwave metamaterials

    Metal-dielectric nanocomposites made of Ag nanorods embedded in Co0.05Ti0.95O2 were investigated. The effect of Ag contents on dielectric and magnetic responses of nanocomposites was studied. The results show that above the percolation threshold, the nanocomposite has metal-like behavior with negative permittivity. Moreover, the combined contributions of the magnetic resonance of ferrimagnetic Co0.05Ti0.95O2 particles and the diamagnetic response of the current loops (made of random Ag nanorod networks) bring about negative permeability in high frequency. These results indicate that the CTO-Ag 30% sample is a promising candidate for the double-negative materials
