Synthesis and Enhanced Field-Emission of Thin-Walled, Open-Ended, and Well-Aligned N-Doped Carbon Nanotubes
Thin-walled, open-ended, and well-aligned N-doped carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on the quartz slides were synthesized by using acetonitrile as carbon sources. As-obtained products possess large thin-walled index (TWI, defined as the ratio of inner diameter and wall thickness of a CNT). The effect of temperature on the growth of CNTs using acetonitrile as the carbon source was also investigated. It is found that the diameter, the TWI of CNTs increase and the Fe encapsulation in CNTs decreases as the growth temperature rises in the range of 780β860Β°C. When the growth temperature is kept at 860Β°C, CNTs with TWI = 6.2 can be obtained. It was found that the filed-emission properties became better as CNT growth temperatures increased from 780 to 860Β°C. The lowest turn-on and threshold field was 0.27 and 0.49 V/ΞΌm, respectively. And the best field-enhancement factors reached 1.09 Γ 105, which is significantly improved about an order of magnitude compared with previous reports. In this study, about 30 Γ 50 mm2 free-standing film of thin-walled open-ended well-aligned N-doped carbon nanotubes was also prepared. The free-standing film can be transferred easily to other substrates, which would promote their applications in different fields
Observation of a ppb mass threshoud enhancement in \psi^\prime\to\pi^+\pi^-J/\psi(J/\psi\to\gamma p\bar{p}) decay
The decay channel
is studied using a sample of events collected
by the BESIII experiment at BEPCII. A strong enhancement at threshold is
observed in the invariant mass spectrum. The enhancement can be fit
with an -wave Breit-Wigner resonance function with a resulting peak mass of
and a
narrow width that is at the 90% confidence level.
These results are consistent with published BESII results. These mass and width
values do not match with those of any known meson resonance.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Chinese Physics
Tire Defect Detection Based on Faster R-CNN
The tire defect detection method can help the rehabilitation robot to achieve autonomous positioning function and improve the accuracy of the robot system behavior. Defects such as foreign matter sidewall, foreign matter tread, and sidewall bubbles will appear in the process of tire production, which will directly or indirectly affect the service life of the tire. Therefore, a novel and efficient tire defect detection method was proposed based on Faster R-CNN. At preprocessing stage, the Laplace operator and the homomorphic filter were used to sharpen and enhance the data set, the gray values of the image target and the background were significantly different, which improved the detection accuracy. Moreover, data expansion was used to increase the number of images and improve the robustness of the algorithm. To promote the accuracy of the position detection and identification, the proposed method combined the convolution features of the third layer and the convolution features of the fifth layer in the ZF network (a kind of convolution neural network). Then, the improved ZF network was used to extract deep characteristics as inputs for Faster R-CNN. From the experiment, the proposed faster R-CNN defect detection method can accurately classify and locate the tire X-ray image defects, and the average test recognition rate is up to 95.4%. Moreover, if there are additional types of defects that need to be detected, then a new detection model can be obtained by fine-tuning the network
Microarray Analysis of the Effect of Streptococcus equi subsp. zooepidemicus M-Like Protein in Infecting Porcine Pulmonary Alveolar Macrophage
Streptococcus equi subsp. zooepidemicus (S. zooepidemicus), which belongs to Lancefield group C streptococci, is an important pathogen of domesticated species, causing septicemia, meningitis and mammitis. M-like protein (SzP) is an important virulence factor of S. zooepidemicus and contributes to bacterial infection and antiphagocytosis. To increase our knowledge of the mechanism of SzP in infection, we profiled the response of porcine pulmonary alveolar macrophage (PAM) to infection with S. zooepidemicus ATCC35246 wild strain (WD) and SzP-knockout strain (KO) using the Roche NimbleGen Porcine Genome Expression Array. We found SzP contributed to differential expression of 446 genes, with upregulation of 134 genes and downregulation of 312 genes. Gene Ontology category and KEGG pathway were analyzed for relationships among differentially expressed genes. These genes were represented in a variety of functional categories, including genes involved in immune response, regulation of chemokine production, signal transduction and regulation of apoptosis. The reliability of the data obtained from the microarray was verified by performing quantitative real-time PCR on 12 representative genes. The data will contribute to understanding of SzP mediated mechanisms of S. zooepidemicus pathogenesis
Systemic delivery of E6/7 siRNA using novel lipidic particles and its application with cisplatin in cervical cancer mouse models
Small interfering RNA (siRNA) shows great promise in cancer therapy, but its effectiveness in vivo still remains a crucial issue for its transition into the clinics. Although the successful use of polyethylene glycol (PEG)ylated lipidic delivery systems have already been reported, most of the formulation procedures used are labour intensive and also result in unstable end products. We have previously developed a simple yet efficient hydration-of-freeze-dried- matrix (HFDM) method to entrap siRNA within lipid particles, in which the products exhibited superior stability. Here, we show that these HFDM-formulated particles are stable in the presence of serum and can deliver siRNA efficiently to tumours after intravenous administration. Using these particles, around 50% knockdown of the target gene expression was observed in tumours. With the use of siRNA targeting the E6/7 oncogenes expressed in cervical cancer, we showed a 50% reduction in tumour size. This level of tumour growth suppression was comparable to that achieved from cisplatin at the clinically used dose. Overall, our results demonstrate the feasibility of using HFDM-formulated particles to systematically administer E6/7-targeted siRNA for cervical cancer treatment. The simplicity of preparation procedure along with superior product stability obtained from our method offers an innovative approach for the in vivo delivery of siRNA
Acid-evoked Ca2+ signalling in rat sensory neurones: effects of anoxia and aglycaemia
Ischaemia excites sensory neurones (generating pain) and promotes calcitonin gene-related peptide release from nerve endings. Acidosis is thought to play a key role in mediating excitation via the activation of proton-sensitive cation channels. In this study, we investigated the effects of acidosis upon Ca2+ signalling in sensory neurones from rat dorsal root ganglia. Both hypercapnic (pHo 6.8) and metabolicβhypercapnic (pHo 6.2) acidosis caused a biphasic increase in cytosolic calcium concentration ([Ca2+]i). This comprised a brief Ca2+ transient (half-time approximately 30Β s) caused by Ca2+ influx followed by a sustained rise in [Ca2+]i due to Ca2+ release from caffeine and cyclopiazonic acid-sensitive internal stores. Acid-evoked Ca2+ influx was unaffected by voltage-gated Ca2+-channel inhibition with nickel and acid sensing ion channel (ASIC) inhibition with amiloride but was blocked by inhibition of transient receptor potential vanilloid receptors (TRPV1) with (E)-3-(4-t-butylphenyl)-N-(2,3-dihydrobenzo[b][1,4] dioxin-6-yl)acrylamide (AMG 9810; 1Β ΞΌM) and N-(4-tertiarybutylphenyl)-4-(3-cholorphyridin-2-yl) tetrahydropryazine-1(2H)-carbox-amide (BCTC; 1Β ΞΌM). Combining acidosis with anoxia and aglycaemia increased the amplitude of both phases of Ca2+ elevation and prolonged the Ca2+ transient. The Ca2+ transient evoked by combined acidosis, aglycaemia and anoxia was also substantially blocked by AMG 9810 and BCTC and, to a lesser extent, by amiloride. In summary, the principle mechanisms mediating increase in [Ca2+]i in response to acidosis are a brief Ca2+ influx through TRPV1 followed by sustained Ca2+ release from internal stores. These effects are potentiated by anoxia and aglycaemia, conditions also prevalent in ischaemia. The effects of anoxia and aglycaemia are suggested to be largely due to the inhibition of Ca2+-clearance mechanisms and possible increase in the role of ASICs
Global Expression Analysis Revealed Novel Gender-Specific Gene Expression Features in the Blood Fluke Parasite Schistosoma japonicum
BACKGROUND: Schistosoma japonicum is one of the remarkable Platyhelminths that are endemic in China and Southeast Asian countries. The parasite is dioecious and can reside inside the host for many years. Rapid reproduction by producing large number of eggs and count-react host anti-parasite responses are the strategies that benefit long term survival of the parasite. Praziquantel is currently the only drug that is effective against the worms. Development of novel antiparasite reagents and immune-prevention measures rely on the deciphering of parasite biology. The decoding of the genomic sequence of the parasite has made it possible to dissect the functions of genes that govern the development of the parasite. In this study, the polyadenylated transcripts from male and female S. japonicum were isolated for deep sequencing and the sequences were systematically analysed. RESULTS: First, the number of genes actively expressed in the two sexes of S. japonicum was similar, but around 50% of genes were biased to either male or female in expression. Secondly, it was, at the first time, found that more than 50% of the coding region of the genome was transcribed from both strands. Among them, 65% of the genes had sense and their cognate antisense transcripts co-expressed, whereas 35% had inverse relationship between sense and antisense transcript abundance. Further, based on gene ontological analysis, more than 2,000 genes were functionally categorized and biological pathways that are differentially functional in male or female parasites were elucidated. CONCLUSIONS: Male and female schistosomal parasites differ in gene expression patterns, many metabolic and biological pathways have been identified in this study and genes differentially expressed in gender specific manner were presented. Importantly, more than 50% of the coding regions of the S. japonicum genome transcribed from both strands, antisense RNA-mediated gene regulation might play a critical role in the parasite biology
Prokineticin 2 Regulates the Electrical Activity of Rat Suprachiasmatic Nuclei Neurons
Neuropeptide signaling plays roles in coordinating cellular activities and maintaining robust oscillations within the mammalian suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). Prokineticin2 (PK2) is a signaling molecule from the SCN and involves in the generation of circadian locomotor activity. Prokineticin receptor 2 (PKR2), a receptor for PK2, has been shown to be expressed in the SCN. However, very little is known about the cellular action of PK2 within the SCN. In the present study, we investigated the effect of PK2 on spontaneous firing and miniature inhibitory postsynaptic currents (mIPSCs) using whole cell patch-clamp recording in the SCN slices. PK2 dose-dependently increased spontaneous firing rates in most neurons from the dorsal SCN. PK2 acted postsynaptically to reduce Ξ³-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-ergic function within the SCN, and PK2 reduced the amplitude but not frequency of mIPSCs. Furthermore, PK2 also suppressed exogenous GABA-induced currents. And the inhibitory effect of PK2 required PKC activation in the postsynaptic cells. Our data suggest that PK2 could alter cellular activities within the SCN and may influence behavioral and physiological rhythms
