07281 Abstracts Collection -- Structure Theory and FPT Algorithmics for Graphs, Digraphs and Hypergraphs
From 8th to 13th July 2007, the Dagstuhl Seminar ``Structure Theory and FPT Algorithmics for Graphs, Digraphs and Hypergraphs\u27\u27 was held in the International Conference and Research Center (IBFI), Schloss Dagstuhl.
During the seminar, several participants presented their current
research, and ongoing work and open problems were discussed. Abstracts of
the presentations given during the seminar as well as abstracts of
seminar results and ideas are put together in this paper. The first section
describes the seminar topics and goals in general.

The time of the Roma in times of crisis: Where has European neoliberal capitalism failed?
This paper argues that the economic and financial crisis that has ensnared Europe from the late 2000s has been instrumental in reshaping employment and social relations in a detrimental way for the majority of the European people. It argues that the crisis has exacerbated the socio-economic position of most Roma people, immigrants as well as of other vulnerable groups. This development is approached here as an outcome of the widening structural inequalities that underpin the crisis within an increasingly neoliberalised Europe. Through recent policy developments and public discourses from a number of European countries I show how rising inequalities nurture racialised social tensions. My account draws on classic and contemporary theoretical propositions that have been propounded about the nature of capitalism, its contemporary re-articulation as well as its ramification for the future of Europe

Rapid solution of problems by nuclear-magnetic-resonance quantum computation
We offer an improved method for using a nuclear-magnetic-resonance quantum
computer (NMRQC) to solve the Deutsch-Jozsa problem. Two known obstacles to the
application of the NMRQC are exponential diminishment of density-matrix
elements with the number of bits, threatening weak signal levels, and the high
cost of preparing a suitable starting state. A third obstacle is a heretofore
unnoticed restriction on measurement operators available for use by an NMRQC.
Variations on the function classes of the Deutsch-Jozsa problem are introduced,
both to extend the range of problems advantageous for quantum computation and
to escape all three obstacles to use of an NMRQC. By adapting it to one such
function class, the Deutsch-Jozsa problem is made solvable without exponential
loss of signal. The method involves an extra work bit and a polynomially more
involved Oracle; it uses the thermal-equilibrium density matrix systematically
for an arbitrary number of spins, thereby avoiding both the preparation of a
pseudopure state and temporal averaging.Comment: 19 page
Lepton-flavor violating decays as probes of quantum gravity?
Lepton flavor violating decays and are considered. It is shown that these decays can reach sizeable
magnitudes if some specific lepton-flavor violating 4-fermion operators are
generated by low scale quantum gravity effects, or by some other new physics at

Situationally edited empathy: an effect of socio-economic structure on individual choice
Criminological theory still operates with deficient models of the offender as agent, and of social influences on the agent’s decision-making process. This paper takes one ‘emotion’, empathy, which is theoretically of considerable importance in influencing the choices made by agents; particularly those involving criminal or otherwise harmful action. Using a framework not of rational action, but of ‘rationalised action’, the paper considers some of the effects on individual psychology of social, economic, political and cultural structure. It is suggested that the climate-setting effects of these structures promote normative definitions of social situations which allow unempathic, harmful action to be rationalised through the situational editing of empathy. The ‘crime is normal’ argument can therefore be extended to include the recognition that the uncompassionate state of mind of the criminal actor is a reflection of the self-interested values which govern non-criminal action in wider society
Token Jumping in minor-closed classes
Given two -independent sets and of a graph , one can ask if it
is possible to transform the one into the other in such a way that, at any
step, we replace one vertex of the current independent set by another while
keeping the property of being independent. Deciding this problem, known as the
Token Jumping (TJ) reconfiguration problem, is PSPACE-complete even on planar
graphs. Ito et al. proved in 2014 that the problem is FPT parameterized by
if the input graph is -free.
We prove that the result of Ito et al. can be extended to any
-free graphs. In other words, if is a -free
graph, then it is possible to decide in FPT-time if can be transformed into
. As a by product, the TJ-reconfiguration problem is FPT in many well-known
classes of graphs such as any minor-free class
Digital prosumption labour on social media in the context of the capitalist regime of time
So-called social media such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Weibo and LinkedIn are an expression of changing regimes of time in capitalist society. This paper discusses how corporate social media are related to the capitalist organization of time and the changes this organization is undergoing. It uses social theory for conceptualizing changes of society and its time regime and how these changes shape social media. These changes have been described with notions such as prosumption, consumption labour, play labour (playbour) and digital labour. The paper contextualizes digital labour on social media with the help of a model of society that distinguishes three subsystems (the economy, politics, culture) and three forms of power (economic, political, culture). In modern society, these systems are based on the logic of the accumulation of power and the acceleration of accumulation. The paper discusses the role of various dimensions of time in capitalism with the help of a model that is grounded in Karl Marx’s works. It points out the importance of the category of time for a labour theory of value and a digital labour theory of value. Social media are expressions of the changing time regimes that modern society has been undergoing, especially in relation to the blurring of leisure and labour time (play labour), production and consumption time (prosumption), new forms of absolute and relative surplus value production, the acceleration of consumption with the help of targeted online advertising and the creation of speculative, future-oriented forms of fictitious capital
