Comprehensive Study of Lung Cancer Proton Therapy with Injection of GNPs
The use of Radiation Therapy (RT) in lung cancer has shown some exciting and sometimes disappointing advances in recent years. Protons compared with photons interact differently with human tissues, and can be used to improve patient care suffering lung cancer. A new strategy is the simultaneous injection of Nanoparticles (NPs) with proton radiation to the tumor which has been given over a decade to improve conventional RT. In this work, Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) with Gold Nanoparticles (GNPs) is used as part of a combination program for the treatment of advanced localized lung cancers. The purpose of this paper is developing the complex GEANT4 (G4) model on the human lung and predict the distribution of absorbed dose in lung tumors during proton therapy without and with high-Z injection of GNPs. Thus, the distribution of the absorbed dose in lung tumor for four modes of Bethe-Bloch’s relativistic quantum theory, G4 simulation model, hartree-fock-roothaan wave functions and the bortfeld theoretical model without and with the injection of GNPs in predicted phantom of the lung are compared.</jats:p
Fluorescence emission spectra of silver and silver/cobalt nanoparticles
AbstractVarious aqueous solutions of silver and silver/cobalt nanoparticles (Ag and Ag/Co NPs) were obtained, and their fluorescence emission spectra have been studied. First, colloidal Ag NPs were prepared by an electrochemical method under different time intervals and at different rotation speeds of rotating electrode. Next, in a reduction method, Ag/Co core–shell NPs were prepared, using Ag NPs as a core. The core–shell structure of Ag/Co NPs has been demonstrated by the Transmission Electron Micrograph (TEM) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) pattern. The fluorescence emission spectra of Ag and Ag/Co NPs, at different ranges of excitation wavelength, were investigated, which revealed two kinds of fluorescence emission peak. The shorter emission peak was fixed at about 485 (for Ag NPs) and 538 nm (for Ag/Co NPs). For both NPs, with an increase in excitation wavelength, the latter emission peak becomes red-shifted. The effect of duration time and rotation speed of the rotating electrode, in the electrochemical preparation of Ag NPs, on its fluorescence emission spectra, has also been investigated
PREPARATION AND INVESTIGATION OF OPTICAL, THERMAL, AND ELECTROCHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF Ag/Co NANOPARTICLES
Ag/Co nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared by a two-step method. First, Ag NPs were synthesized by "Controlled Current Coulometry" (CCC) electrochemical method using a Pt rotating electrode. Then, Ag/Co core-shell NPs were prepared through the reduction method using Ag NPs as a core. Both steps were accomplished at room temperature. Techniques such as patterned X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were employed for the characterization of Ag/Co NPs. Optical properties of synthesized NPs were also investigated by UV-Vis spectroscopy. The absorption peak of Ag NPs was observed at ~400 nm wavelength and the peaks that were detected at 425 nm and 415 nm wavelengths reveal the formation of Ag/Co NPs. The core-shell structure of Ag/Co NPs was confirmed by thermal and electrochemical techniques. We also applied "Mie" theory to calculate the absorption cross-section band of synthesized Ag/Co NPs. Comparison between the results of optical properties and also those obtained from "Mie" theory showed good agreements. </jats:p

Effects of probiotics supplementation on blood pressure: An umbrella meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
−0.79, p < 0.001, and SMD = −0.60 mmHg; 95% CI: −1.08, −0.12, p = 0.014) following probiotics supplementation. Greater effects on SBP were revealed in trials with a mean age of >50 years and the duration of intervention ≤10 weeks. DBP was also more reduced in studies with a dosage of ≥1010 colony forming unit (CFU), and SBP was decreased in patients with hypertension or diabetes analyzing WMD. Conclusion: The present umbrella meta-analysis suggests probiotics supplementation to improve BP and claims that probiotics could be used as a complementary therapy for controlling high BP.
