The cognitive difference between student groups with high and low level of physical activity
We examined the cognitive performance in two groups of young adults differentiated by level of their daily physical activity: high intensity group (HI, 43 male, aged 21.8 ±1.14) and low intensity group (LI, 25 male, aged 21.52 ±1.5). To evaluate the cognitive performance in the two groups we used face/name association test and Stroop test. In the face/name association test we observed statistically significant (p<0.005) differences between HI and LI groups. There were no statistical significant differences in the Stroop test results.Celem pracy było zbadanie poziomu zdolności poznaw-czych w grupie młodzieży o wysokim (grupa HI, 43 mężczyzn, wiek 21,8±1,14) i niskim (grupa LI, 25 mężczyzn, wiek 21,52±1,5) poziomie dziennej aktywności fizycznej.

Hard bremsstrahlung in the pp -> pp gamma reaction
The pp -> pp gamma reaction has been measured at a beam energy of 310 MeV by
detecting both final protons in the PROMICE-WASA facility and identifying a
missing-mass peak. For those events where the pp excitation is less than 3 MeV,
the final diproton is almost purely in the 1S0 state and, under these
conditions, there is complete coverage in the photon c.m. angle theta_gamma.
The linear behaviour observed in cos^2(theta_gamma) shows that there is almost
no influence of an E2 multipole at this energy, though the E1 and M2 must be
rather similar in size.Comment: An error in Eq.(1) is corrected. The conclusions of the paper are not
changed in any significant way. Phys.Lett.B 673 (2009) 5 + erratum to appea
Wzrost wskaźnika masy ciała może mieć negatywny wpływ na pamięć deklaratywną
Several lines of evidence suggest that being overweight or obese not only impacts the cardiovascular and respiratory systems but also exert a negative effect on the central nervous system. We examined the relationship between body mass index and cognitive performance in three groups of volunteers: obese (17 women; aged 59.88 ± 4.29; BMI 34.08 ± 2.31), overweight (35 women; aged 59.70 ± 4.68; BMI 27.87± 1.44), and normal body weight group (18 women; aged 64.5 ±4.84; BMI 23.53 ± 1.21). To evaluate the cognitive performance in our subjects we used face/name association test. Our data demonstrate that the increased body mass weight may have a negative effect on some cognitive function such as declarative memory. Zbadano zależność pomiędzy wartością wskażnika masy ciała a zdolnościami poznawczymi w trzech grupach wolontariuszy: osób otyłych (17 kobiet; wiek 59,88 ± 4,29; BMI 34,08 ± 2,31) osób z nadwagą (35 kobiet; wiek 59, 70 ± 4,68; BMI 27,87± 1,44), osób z prawidłową masą ciała (18 kobiet; wiek 64,5 ±4,84; BMI 23,53 ± 1,21). Do określenia funkcji poznawczych użyto testu kojarzenia twarz/imię. Otrzymane wyniki wskazują, że wzrost masy ciała może mieć negatywny wpływ na pamięć deklaratywną

Measurement of Partial-Wave Contributions in pp --> pp pi^0
We report a measurement of the spin-dependent total cross section ratios
delta_sigma_T/sigma_tot and delta_sigma_L/sigma_tot of the pp --> pp pi^0
reaction between 325 MeV and 400 MeV. The experiment was carried out with a
polarized internal target in a storage ring. Non-vertical beam polarization was
obtained by the use of solenoidal spin rotators. Near threshold, the knowledge
of both spin-dependent total cross sections is sufficient to deduce the
strength of certain participating partial waves, free of any model.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure
Near threshold eta meson production in dp collisions
Preliminary results of recent measurements of the near threshold eta meson
production in the dp-->dp eta reaction are presented. The experiment was
performed at the COSY-Juelich accelerator with the use of the COSY-11 detection
system. Data were taken for three values of deuteron beam momenta corresponding
to excess energies of 3.2, 6.1 and 9.2 MeV. The energy dependence of the total
cross section confirms a strong effect of the final state interaction.Comment: Talk given at 9th International Workshop on Meson Production,

Observation of strong final-state effects in pi+ production in pp collisions at 400 MeV
Differential cross sections of the reactions and have been measured at MeV by detecting the charged
ejectiles in the angular range . The
deduced total cross sections agree well with those published previously for
neighbouring energies. The invariant mass spectra are observed to be strongly
affected by production and final-state interaction. The data are
well described by Monte Carlo simulations including both these effects. The
ratio of and cross sections also compares
favourably to a recent theoretical prediction which suggests a dominance of
-production in the relative -state.Comment: 17 pages, 5 figure
Higher Partial Waves in p+p->p+p+eta near Threshold
Exclusive measurements of the production of eta mesons in the p+p->p+p+eta
reaction have been carried out at excess energies of 16 and 37 MeV above
threshold. The deviations from phase space are dominated by the proton-proton
final state interaction and this influences particularly the energy
distribution of the eta meson. However, evidence is also presented at the
higher energy for the existence of an anisotropy in the angular distributions
of the eta meson and also of the final proton-proton pair, probably to be
associated with D-waves in this system interfering with the dominant S-wave
term. The sign of the eta angular anisotropy suggests that rho-exchange is
important for this reaction.Comment: 16 pages, LaTeX2e, 3 EPS Figures, Updated version, Accepted for

Measurement of the Slope Parameter for the eta->3pi0 Decay in the pp->pp eta Reaction
The CELSIUS/WASA setup is used to measure the 3pi0 decay of eta mesons
produced in pp interactions with beam kinetic energies of 1.36 and 1.45 GeV.
The efficiency-corrected Dalitz plot and density distributions for this decay
are shown, together with a fit of the quadratic slope parameter alpha yielding
alpha = -0.026 +/- 0.010(stat) +/- 0.010(syst). This value is compared to
recent experimental results and theoretical predictions.Comment: 4 pages, 7 Postscript figures, uses revtex4.st
