    Get PDF
AbstractIn order to describe the mechanism of system parts occurring dependent failure, extending the definition of stress and strength to wider range which based on the component's failure stress-strength interference theory. Using hypergragh theory to carry on the modeling of related failure system and calculate its component's related failure rate, then obtaining the real failure rate of the system. Using component's failure data of RIAC Automated Databook to calculate system failure rate, then comparing with corresponding system failure data of OREDA to demonstrate the efficiency of this method

Cross-Scale Cost Aggregation for Stereo Matching

Human beings process stereoscopic correspondence across multiple scales. However, this bio-inspiration is ignored by state-of-the-art cost aggregation methods for dense stereo correspondence. In this paper, a generic cross-scale cost aggregation framework is proposed to allow multi-scale interaction in cost aggregation. We firstly reformulate cost aggregation from a unified optimization perspective and show that different cost aggregation methods essentially differ in the choices of similarity kernels. Then, an inter-scale regularizer is introduced into optimization and solving this new optimization problem leads to the proposed framework. Since the regularization term is independent of the similarity kernel, various cost aggregation methods can be integrated into the proposed general framework. We show that the cross-scale framework is important as it effectively and efficiently expands state-of-the-art cost aggregation methods and leads to significant improvements, when evaluated on Middlebury, KITTI and New Tsukuba datasets.Comment: To Appear in 2013 IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR). 2014 (poster, 29.88%

Purpose: Neural injury affects patients after using inhalational anesthetics such as sevoflurane. Rhodioloside, a compound which is obtained from the Rhodiola rosea plant has been implicated to be the most commonly used psychostimulant that can improve a range of conditions. The study was aimed at finding the molecular mechanism underlying the Rhodioloside treatment of sevoflurane-injured hippocampal neurons. Methods: Main hippocampal neurons, secluded from Sprague Dawley embryonic rats were employed to create an injury model using 3 % sevoflurane. The sevoflurane-injured hippocampal neurons were treated with varying concentrations (10, 20, 40 and 80 μM/ml) of Rhodioloside to create different experimental groups: RHSD10+SEV, RHSD20+SEV, RHSD40+SEV, RHSD80+SEV, while untreated cells were considered as the Control group. Cell viability was identified using the CCK-8 assay. The CFSE assay was used to verify the promotion function of Rhodioloside on cell differentiation of neurons. FCM assay was employed to determine cell proliferation and apoptosis. Expression levels of apoptosisrelated factors, like Caspase-3, Bcl-2 and Bax were examined by RT-qPCR, while Western blot was used to measure phosphorylation of PKA.Results: Rhodioloside stimulated cell viability and prevented cell apoptosis in sevoflurane-injured hippocampal neurons in doses between 10-80 μM. The apoptosis-inhibitory effect of Rhodioloside was observed to be through cAMP/PKA pathway activation. Also, expression levels of Bcl-2, and PKA were enhanced and the level of Caspase-3 and Bax was reduced in a dose-dependent pattern. The PKA inhibitor reversed the above observation in the 40 μM Rhodioloside-treatment.Conclusion: Rhodioloside promoted cell viability and prevented apoptosis of primary hippocampal neurons injured by sevoflurane, through cAMP/PKA pathway activation. Inhibition of PKA network deteriorated the function of Rhodioloside by stimulating cell apoptosis. Our findings present a novel evidence that Rhodioloside could attenuate neurotoxicity of inhalational anesthetics. Rapid, non-invasive characterization of the dispersity of emulsions via microwaves

    Get PDF
A rapid and non-invasive method to determine the dispersity of emulsions is developed based on the interrelationship between the droplet size distribution and the dielectric properties of emulsions. A range of water-in-oil emulsions with different water contents and droplet size distributions were analysed using a microwave cavity perturbation technique together with dynamic light scattering. The results demonstrate that the dielectric properties, as measured by non-invasive microwave cavity analysis, can be used to characterise the dispersity of emulsions, and is also capable of characterizing heavy oil emulsions. This technique has great potential for industrial applications to examine the sedimentation, creaming and hence the stability of emulsions

Chicken DDX3X Activates IFN-β via the chSTING-chIRF7-IFN-β Signaling Axis

Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD)-box polypeptide 3 X-linked (DDX3X) is an ATP-dependent RNA helicase, In addition to involvement of eukaryotic gene expression regulation, mammalian DDX3X has recently been found to regulate IFN-β production via the adaptor MAVS mediated cascade signaling. In our studies, we demonstrated that chicken DDX3X (chDDX3X) is also involved in the IFN-β regulation, and demonstrated that chDDX3X regulated IFN-β via an essential adaptor chicken stimulator of IFN genes (chSTING). We found that chDDX3X overexpression in DF-1 cells induced expression of IFN-β and inhibited avian influenza virus (AIV) or Newcastle disease virus (NDV) replication. Knockdown of chDDX3X decreased the production of IFN-β induced by RNA analog polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid and increased viral yield. Furthermore, chDDX3X was identified as a potential chSTING-interacting protein by co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP) and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). And exogenous Co-IP in transfected cells with or without virus-stimulations further confirmed the interaction between chDDX3X and chSTING. With the gene overexpression and RNA interference studies, the chDDX3X was confirmed to be located upstream of chSTING and activate IFN-β via the chSTING-chTBK1-chIRF7-IFN-β signaling axis. In brief, our results suggest that chDDX3X is an important IFN-β mediator and is involved in RNA- and RNA virus-mediated chDDX3X-chSTING-IFN-β signaling pathway

Alzheimer\u27s disease (AD) is a chronic progressive neurodegenerative disease. Its mechanism is still not clear. Majority of research focused on the central nervous system (CNS) changes, while few studies emphasize on peripheral immune system modulation. Our study aimed to investigate the regulation of the peripheral immune system and its relationship to the severity of the disease after treatment in an AD model of APPswe/PSEN1dE9 transgenic (APP/PS1 Tg) mice. APP/PS1 Tg mice (8 months old) were treated with the ROCK-II inhibitor 1-(5-isoquinolinesulfonyl)-homo-piperazine (Fasudil) (intraperitoneal (i.p.) injections, 25 mg/kg/day), bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs; caudal vein injections, 1 × 1

Weather Support for the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Sailing Events

The Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Sailing Competitions (referred to as OPSC hereafter) were held at Qingdao during August 9–23 and September 7–13 2008, respectively. The Qingdao Meteorological Bureau was the official provider of weather support for the OPSC. Three-dimensional real-time information with high spatial-temporal resolution was obtained by the comprehensive observation system during the OPSC, which included weather radars, wind profile radars, buoys, automated weather stations, and other conventional observations. The refined forecasting system based on MM5, WRF, and statistical modules provided point-specific hourly wind forecasts for the five venues, and the severe weather monitoring and forecasting system was used in short-term forecasts and nowcasts for rainstorms, gales, and hailstones. Moreover, latest forecasting products, warnings, and weather information were communicated conveniently and timely through a synthetic, speedy, and digitalized network system to different customers. Daily weather information briefings, notice boards, websites, and community short messages were the main approaches for regatta organizers, athletes, and coaches to receive weather service products at 8:00 PM of each day and whenever new updates were available. During the period of OPSC, almost one hundred people were involved in the weather service with innovative service concept, and the weather support was found to be successful and helpful to the OPSC

Abstract(#br)Text detection is a prerequisite of text recognition, and multi-oriented text detection is a hot topic recently. The existing multi-oriented text detection methods fall short when facing two issues: 1) text scales change in a wide range, and 2) there exists the foreground-background class imbalance. In this paper, we propose a scale-robust deep multi-oriented text-detection model, which not only has the efficiency of the one-stage deep detection model, but also has the comparable accuracy of the two-stage deep text-detection model. We design the feature refining block to fuse multi-scale context features for the purpose of keeping text detection in a higher-resolution feature map. Moreover, in order to mitigate the foreground-background class imbalance, Focal Loss is adopted to up weight the hard-classified samples. Our method is implemented on four benchmark text datasets: ICDAR2013, ICDAR2015, COCO-Text and MSRA-TD500. The experimental results demonstrate that our method is superior to the existing one-stage deep text-detection models and comparable to the state-of-the-art text detection methods
