    IDF-Autoware: Integrated Development Framework for ROS-Based Self-Driving Systems Using MATLAB/Simulink

    This paper proposes an integrated development framework that enables co-simulation and operation of a Robot Operating System (ROS)-based self-driving system using MATLAB/Simulink (IDF-Autoware). The management of self-driving systems is becoming more complex as the development of self-driving technology progresses. One approach to the development of self-driving systems is the use of ROS; however, the system used in the automotive industry is typically designed using MATLAB/Simulink, which can simulate and evaluate the models used for self-driving. These models are incompatible with ROS-based systems. To allow the two to be used in tandem, it is necessary to rewrite the C++ code and incorporate them into the ROS-based system, which makes development inefficient. Therefore, the proposed framework allows models created using MATLAB/Simulink to be used in a ROS-based self-driving system, thereby improving development efficiency. Furthermore, our evaluations of the proposed framework demonstrated its practical potential

    Room-Temperature Fluorescence Lifetime of Pseudoisocyanine (PIC) J Excitons with Various Aggregate Morphologies in Relation to Microcavity Polariton Formation

    The results of room-temperature fluorescence lifetime measurements are reported for the excitation of J aggregates (Js) of pseudoisocyanine chloride (PIC-Cl) prepared in potassium polyvinyl sulfate (PVS) polymer thin films, their aqueous solutions, and NaCl aqueous solutions. Variations of the microscopic morphologies of the aggregates were investigated. The results show that fluorescence decay features correlated to the morphology change. The observed fluorescence lifetime and quantum efficiency of PIC J aggregates (PIC-Js) in a NaCl aqueous solution were 310 ps and 28%, respectively. The lifetime of the fibril-shaped macroaggregates prepared in PVS thin films was below the instrumental time resolution of 5 ps, and the efficiency decreased to below 3%. The results indicate that PIC-Js prepared with PVS polymers have an increased nonradiative contribution to the excitation deactivation process. In particular, macro-Js with isolated fibril-shaped structures revealed nonradiative pathway(s) that are closely associated to the specific packaging morphology of the constituent meso-Js. The possibility of a destructive effect on the formation of cavity-polaritons is also discussed

    Ultra‐Narrowband Blue Multi‐Resonance Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence Materials

    Ultra-narrowband blue multi-resonance-induced thermally activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) materials (V-DABNA and V-DABNA-F), consisting of three DABNA subunits possessing phenyl or 2, 6-difluorophenyl substituents on the peripheral nitrogen atoms are synthesized by one-shot triple borylation. Benefiting from the inductive effect of fluorine atoms, the emission maximum of V-DABNA-F (464 nm) is blueshifted from that of the parent V-DABNA (481 nm), while maintaining a small full width at half maximum (FWHM, 16 nm) and a high rate constant for reverse intersystem crossing (6.5 × 10⁵ s⁻¹). The organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) using V-DABNA and V-DABNA-F as emitters are fabricated by vapor deposition and exhibit blue emission at 483 and 468 nm with small FWHMs of 17 and 15 nm, corresponding to Commission Internationale d’Éclairage coordinates of (0.09, 0.27) and (0.12, 0.10), respectively. Both devices achieve high external quantum efficiencies of 26.2% and 26.6% at the maximum with minimum efficiency roll-offs of 0.9% and 3.2%, respectively, even at 1000 cd m⁻², which are record-setting values for blue MR-TADF OLEDs

    Photoluminescence properties of CdSe/ZnS/TOPO nanocrystals in full- and half-microcavity structures

    We report a recent study on photoluminescence (PL) properties of CdSe/ZnS/TOPO nanocrystals (NCs) in a planar full microcavity composed of top and bottom two metal (Ag) mirrors, and also in a similar structure but without top mirror, i.e. half-microcavity, respectively. Angular-dependencies of PL spectra and PL decay curves have been measured to investigate PL modifications due to light-matter coupling in the microcavities. Obtained results indicate that PL dynamics are drastically changed depending on the microcavity structures. In the full-microcavity, PL emission is directed at particular angles and its decay-time is shortened, both of which can be described in terms of so-called Purcell effect, i.e. the interaction between photon-modes and confined excitons in the NCs. As for the half-microcavity, anomalous PL band appears at low energy side of a main PL band associated with the confined excitons. The origin of the anomalous PL will be interpreted as due to the interaction between specific photon-modes in the half-microcavity structure and excitons associated with surface states

    Effect of bovine milk fermented with Lactobacillus rhamnosus L8020 on periodontal disease in individuals with intellectual disability: a randomized clinical trial

    Studies on the oral health of individuals with intellectual disability (ID) have identified problems that include a high prevalence of periodontal disease. The use of probiotics to treat periodontal disease has been the focus of considerable research, and bovine milk fermented with Lactobacillus rhamnosus L8020 (L8020 yogurt) has been shown to reduce the oral prevalence of four periodontal pathogens. Objective: The aim of this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was to compare the effects of L8020 yogurt (test group) with those of placebo yogurt (placebo group) on the papillary-marginal-attached (PMA) index, gingival index (GI), and probing depth (PD) in 23 individuals with ID. Methodology: All patients were required to consume the allocated yogurt after breakfast for 90 days. PMA index and GI scores as well as PDs were assessed before the start of yogurt consumption (baseline), after 45 and 90 days of consumption, and 30 days after the cessation of consumption. Student’s t-test, Mann–Whitney U test or Fisher’s exact test was used for inter-group comparisons, and the mixed effect model of repeated measurements was used for data analysis. Results: The decrease in PMA index score was significantly greater in the test group than in the placebo group (p<0.001). The GI score also decreased during the study, with a tendency for greater decrease in the test group. Furthermore, decreases in PD between baseline, 45 and 90 days tended to be greater in the test group than in the placebo group. Conclusion: These results suggest that regular consumption of bovine milk fermented with L. rhamnosus L8020 can lower the risk of periodontal disease in individuals with ID

    Regulation of Cytochrome b5 Expression by miR-223 in Human Liver: Effects on Cytochrome P450 Activities

    Purpose: Cytochrome b 5 (b 5) is a hemoprotein that transfers electrons to several enzymes to fulfill functions in fatty acid desaturation, methemoglobin reduction, steroidogenesis, and drug metabolism. Despite the importance of b 5, the regulation of b 5 expression in human liver remains largely unknown. We investigated whether microRNA (miRNA) might be involved in the regulation of human b 5. Methods: Twenty-four human liver specimens were used for correlation analysis. In silico analysis and luciferase assay were performed to determine whether the predicted miRNAs functionally target to b 5. The miR-223 was overexpressed into HepG2 cells infected with adenovirus expressing human cytochrome P450. Results: In human livers, the b 5 protein levels were not positively correlated with the b 5 mRNA levels, and miR-223 levels were inversely correlated with the b 5 mRNA levels or the translational efficiencies. The luciferase assay showed that miR-223 functionally binds to the element in the 3′-untranslated region of b 5 mRNA. The overexpression of miR-223 significantly reduced the endogenous b 5 protein level and the mRNA stability in HepG2 cells. Moreover, the overexpression of miR-223 significantly reduced CYP3A4-catalyzed testosterone 6β-hydroxylation activity and CYP2E1-catalyzed chlorzoxazone 6-hydroxylase activity but not CYP1A2-catalyzed 7-ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase activity. Conclusions: miR-223 down-regulates b 5 expression in the human liver, modulating P450 activities. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media New York
