A note on the resolution of the entropy discrepancy

It was found by Hung, Myers and Smolkin that there is entropy discrepancy for the CFTs in 6-dimensional space-time, between the field theoretical and the holographic analysis. Recently, two different resolutions to this puzzle have been proposed. One of them suggests to utilize the anomaly-like entropy and the generalized Wald entropy to resolve the HMS puzzle, while the other one initiates to use the entanglement entropy which arises from total derivative terms in the Weyl anomaly to explain the HMS mismatch. We investigate these two proposals carefully in this note. By studying the CFTs dual to Einstein gravity, we find that the second proposal can not solve the HMS puzzle. Moreover, the Wald entropy formula is not well-defined on horizon with extrinsic curvatures, in the sense that, in general, it gives different results for equivalent actions.Comment: 12 pages, no figures, accepted by PL

The signatures of the new particles h2h_2 and ZμτZ_{\mu\tau} at e-p colliders in the U(1)LμLτU(1)_{L_\mu-L_\tau} model

Considering the superior performances of the future e-p colliders, LHeC and FCC-eh, we discuss the feasibility of detecting the extra neutral scalar h2h_{2} and the light gauge boson ZμτZ^{}_{\mu\tau}, which are predicted by the U(1)LμLτ{U(1)}_{L^{}_{\mu} - L^{}_{\tau}} model. Taking into account the experimental constraints on the relevant free parameters, we consider all possible production channels of h2h_{2} and ZμτZ^{}_{\mu\tau} at e-p colliders and further investigate their observability through the optimal channels in the case of the beam polarization P(ee^{-})= -0.8. We find that the signal significance above 5σ\sigma of h2h_{2} as well as ZμτZ^{}_{\mu\tau} detecting can be achieved via epejh2(ZμτZμτ) ej+/ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ETe^{-}p\to{e^{-}jh_{2}(\to{Z_{\mu\tau}Z_{\mu\tau}})}\to~e^{-}j+/\!\!\!\!{E}^{}_{T} process and a 5σ\sigma sensitivity of ZμτZ^{}_{\mu\tau} detecting can be gained via epejh1(ZμτZμτ) ej+/ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ETe^{-}p\to{e^{-}jh_{1}(\to{Z^{}_{\mu\tau}Z^{}_{\mu\tau}})\to}~e^{-}j+/\!\!\!\!{E}^{}_{T} process at e-p colliders with appropriate parameter values and a designed integrated luminosity. However, the signals of h2h_{2} decays into pair of SM particles are difficult to be detected.Comment: 22 pages, 9 figures, references added and typos are correcte

DESIGN OF A BURST MODE ULTRA HIGH-SPEED LOW-NOISE CMOS IMAGE SENSOR

Ultra-high-speed (UHS) image sensors are of interest for studying fast scientific phenomena and may also be useful in medicine. Several published studies have recently achieved frame rates of up to millions of frames per second (Mfps) using advanced processes and/or customized processes. This thesis presents a burst-mode (108 frames) UHS low-noise CMOS image sensor (CIS) based on charge-sweep transfer gates in an unmodified, standard 180 nm front-side-illuminated CIS process. By optimizing the photodiode geometry, the 52.8 μm pitch pixels with 20x20 μm^2 of active area, achieve a charge-transfer time of less than 10 ns. A proof-of-concept CIS was designed and fabricated. Through characterization, it is shown that the designed CIS has the potential to achieve 20 Mfps with an input-referred noise of 5.1 e− rms

Phenomenological Narratives: Exploring Space and Identity in Fiction

    Get PDF
Fiction articulates the texture of our encounters with urban spaces, capturing the amalgamation of emotions, memories, and sensory impressions these encounters evoke. Urban fiction, in particular, presents a unique lens for examining the interplay between thought and space, exploring realms of mind and space that surpass factual descriptions or objective analyses. By constructing worlds beyond reality, fiction probes the liminalities of perception, identity, and existence. This study employs an interdisciplinary approach, blending urban and literary analysis to use fictional narratives as windows into the experiential dimensions of city living. It examines the hypothesis that exploring characters and narratives within urban fiction provides richer insights into the intangible essence of urban spaces that shape human psyches and identities. Through this complex interplay, stories emerge as a powerful medium for grasping the lived essence and phenomenological depths of the city. Focusing on Edgar Allan Poe’s The Man of the Crowd and Virginia Woolf’s Street Haunting: A London Adventure and Mrs Dalloway, the research delves into how urban environments impact identity formation and emotional states. Integrating insights from urban theorists like Jane Jacobs, William H. Whyte, and Kevin Lynch, the study links direct observation with the emotional resonance found in literature. It highlights the role of personal narratives and emotional connections in deepening our understanding of urban spaces, transforming them from mere physical locations to complex lived experiences. Ultimately, the research underscores fiction’s transformative power in enriching our perception of the city as a dynamic and meaningful lived experience
