Many calculations of the stationary and seasonal currents in the nonequatorial regions of the oceans have been done using an earlier model published by Sarkisyan (1969). The references list several new publications in this series (Bulatov et al.; Demin, 1975). The detailed analysis and survey of the diagnostic calculations were published recently in English (Sarkisyan, 1977)...

Frequency and Phase Synchronization in Neuromagnetic Cortical Responses to Flickering-Color Stimuli

In our earlier study dealing with the analysis of neuromagnetic responses (magnetoencephalograms - MEG) to flickering-color stimuli for a group of control human subjects (9 volunteers) and a patient with photosensitive epilepsy (a 12-year old girl), it was shown that Flicker-Noise Spectroscopy (FNS) was able to identify specific differences in the responses of each organism. The high specificity of individual MEG responses manifested itself in the values of FNS parameters for both chaotic and resonant components of the original signal. The present study applies the FNS cross-correlation function to the analysis of correlations between the MEG responses simultaneously measured at spatially separated points of the human cortex processing the red-blue flickering color stimulus. It is shown that the cross-correlations for control (healthy) subjects are characterized by frequency and phase synchronization at different points of the cortex, with the dynamics of neuromagnetic responses being determined by the low-frequency processes that correspond to normal physiological rhythms. But for the patient, the frequency and phase synchronization breaks down, which is associated with the suppression of cortical regulatory functions when the flickering-color stimulus is applied, and higher frequencies start playing the dominating role. This suggests that the disruption of correlations in the MEG responses is the indicator of pathological changes leading to photosensitive epilepsy, which can be used for developing a method of diagnosing the disease based on the analysis with the FNS cross-correlation function.Comment: 21 pages, 14 figures; submitted to "Laser Physics", 2010, 2

High-basic refinery slags are susceptible to silicate disintegration and turn into powder at cooling, and it is the cause of a negative impact of slag disintegration products on the environment. An applied method of slag disintegration preventing is the stabilization of its structure in the process of formation or cooling. The crystallographic method of stabilization of disintegrating slags lies in introducing micro additives into the slag composition. To realize the thermal method of slag stabilization, a rotor-type installation with a ball piece is proposed. Approbation of the applied methods of disintegrating slag stabilization showed their efficiency for producing a material with a number of new technological properties and uses. Keywords: disintegrating slags, stabilization, micro additives, rotor-type installatio

Problems and Prospects for the Development of the Municipal Infrastructure Management System in the Russian Federation

    Get PDF
In modern conditions, the solution of the national development tasks of the Russian Federa-tion, aimed primarily at ensuring the high level and quality of life of the population, is constrained by the inefficiency of the functioning of communal infrastructure systems. The high wear and tear of its networks and facilities, as well as the lack of effective management, pose many challenges. The root cause of these problems is in a contradictory system of government, in which municipal authorities, most interested (by their nature) in solving them, are deprived of the necessary resources and opportunities for making effective decisions. The preservation of the situation may lead in the medium term to significant budgetary costs for the restoration of serviceability and the development of communal infrastructure against the background of a further decrease in the quality of infrastructure services. There was a need to change the approach to addressing the problems. The article proposes this kind of approach, based on the redistribution of powers and giving local governments real opportunities to influence the management of communal infrastructure

FARNESYL DIPHOSPHATE SYNTHASE (FDRS) AND GERANYLGERANYL DIPHOSPHATE SYNTHASE (GGSP1) GENE POLYMORPHISMS AND EFFICIENCY OF THERAPY WITH BISPHOSPHONATES IN RUSSIAN WOMEN WITH POSTMENOPAUSAL OSTEOPOROSIS: A PILOT STUDY

Genetic factors that are an important hereditary component determining a predisposition to osteoporosis (OP) are 60–80% responsible for bone mineral density (BMD). Some polymorphic genes have been previously shown to affect the efficiency of performed anti-osteoporotic therapy. Objective: to study the impact of farnesyl diphosphate synthase (FDRS) and geranylgeranyl diphosphate synthase (GGSPI) gene polymorphisms on BMD changes during 12-month therapy with bisphosphonates (BP) in women with postmenopausal OP.Subjects and methods. The investigation enrolled 53 women with OP. Spine and proximal femur BMD was determined using X-ray densitometry before and after BP treatment. The -99A/C and -8188T ins/del polymorphisms in the FDPS and GGPS1 genes were investigated using real-time polymerase chain reaction. Results and discussion. The BMD changes were less marked in women with the C allele of C/T -99/C polymorphism in the FDPS gene than those in carriers of the genotype AA: 2.3±3.6 and 4.4±3.8% (р = 0.062) in the spine; 0.6±3.1 and 2.8±4.5% (р = 0.075) in the femoral neck; 0.5±2.9 and 2.5±2.8% (р = 0.020) in the entire femur, respectively. Femoral neck densitometry showed a significantly weaker response to BP treatment in the patients carrying the mutant genotype del/del of GGSP1 -8188T ins/del polymorphism than in those with the wild-type genotype ins/ins (0.8±4.2 and 4.1±2.5%, respectively; р = 0.030). No significant differences for this polymorphism were found in other areas of BMD measurement.Conclusion. The described pilot study has indicated that the examined FDPS and GGSP1 gene polymorphisms may be predictors for a response to BP therapy in patients with OP. Further investigations that will contribute to the choice of the most effective therapy for this disease are needed to confirm our results

A solution to the problem of clustered objects compact partitioning

    Get PDF
The urgency of the study consists in the fact that an object arrangement topology of a distributed system is often nonuniform. Objects can be placed at different distances from each other, thus forming clusters. That is why solving the problem of compact partitioning into sets containing thousands of objects requires the most effective way to a better use of natural structuring of objects that form clusters. The aim of the study is the development of methods of compact partitioning of sets of objects presented as clusters. The research methods are based on applied theories of sets, theory of compact sets and compact partitions, and linear programming methods with Boolean variables. As a result, the paper offers the method necessary to analyze composition and content of clusters. It also evaluates cluster compactness, which results in the decision to include clusters into the sets of partitions. It addresses the problem of optimizing the rearrangement of objects between compact sets that form clusters, which is based on the criteria of maximizing the total compactness of sets. The problem is formulated in the class of objectives of linear programming methods with Boolean variables. It introduces the example of object rearrangement

Search for the Radiative Capture d+d->^4He+\gamma Reaction from the dd\mu Muonic Molecule State

A search for the muon catalyzed fusion reaction dd --> ^4He +\gamma in the dd\mu muonic molecule was performed using the experimental \mu CF installation TRITON and NaI(Tl) detectors for \gamma-quanta. The high pressure target filled with deuterium at temperatures from 85 K to 800 K was exposed to the negative muon beam of the JINR phasotron to detect \gamma-quanta with energy 23.8 MeV. The first experimental estimation for the yield of the radiative deuteron capture from the dd\mu state J=1 was obtained at the level n_{\gamma}\leq 2\times 10^{-5} per one fusion.Comment: 9 pages, 3 Postscript figures, submitted to Phys. In conditions of experimental acute pancreatitis of 60 guinea pigs and during the treatment of 89 patients with acute pancreatitis it was shown that the use of thioctic acid significantly reduces the manifestations of ischemic symptom , the severity of free radical processes and improves the patient's outcomes. The way for minimally invasive interventions under intraoperative ultrasound navigation consists in layered implementation of minimally invasive access of 2-3 cm in length, followed by the establishment of liquid aspiration from the wound channel of necrotic detritus, while emptying and drainaging the cavity under ultrasound control. The method allows one-step sanitation and drainage of cavity formations containing purulent dense necrotic tissue. This method is efficient, technically feasible in any surgical department, economically rational, since it does not require the purchase of additional surgical equipment. This complex of therapeutic measures allowed to reduce postoperative mortality in case of necrotizing pancreatitis to 9 % during the last three years.
