    Grain boundary effects on magnetotransport in bi-epitaxial films of La0.7_{0.7}Sr0.3_{0.3}MnO3_3

    The low field magnetotransport of La0.7_{0.7}Sr0.3_{0.3}MnO3_3 (LSMO) films grown on SrTiO3_3 substrates has been investigated. A high qualtity LSMO film exhibits anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) and a peak in the magnetoresistance close to the Curie temperature of LSMO. Bi-epitaxial films prepared using a seed layer of MgO and a buffer layer of CeO2_2 display a resistance dominated by grain boundaries. One film was prepared with seed and buffer layers intact, while a second sample was prepared as a 2D square array of grain boundaries. These films exhibit i) a low temperature tail in the low field magnetoresistance; ii) a magnetoconductance with a constant high field slope; and iii) a comparably large AMR effect. A model based on a two-step tunneling process, including spin-flip tunneling, is discussed and shown to be consistent with the experimental findings of the bi-epitaxial films.Comment: REVTeX style; 14 pages, 9 figures.     Variable metric proximal stochastic variance reduced gradient methods for nonconvex nonsmooth optimization

    We study the problem of minimizing the sum of two functions. The first function is the average of a large number of nonconvex component functions and the second function is a convex (possibly nonsmooth) function that admits a simple proximal mapping. With a diagonal Barzilai-Borwein stepsize for updating the metric, we propose a variable metric proximal stochastic variance reduced gradient method in the mini-batch setting, named VM-SVRG. It is proved that VM-SVRG converges sublinearly to a stationary point in expectation. We further suggest a variant of VM-SVRG to achieve linear convergence rate in expectation for nonconvex problems satisfying the proximal Polyak-Lojasiewicz inequality. The complexity of VM-SVRG is lower than that of the proximal gradient method and proximal stochastic gradient method, and is the same as the proximal stochastic variance reduced gradient method. Numerical experiments are conducted on standard data sets. Comparisons with other advanced proximal stochastic gradient methods show the efficiency of the proposed method

    Anomaly analysis of Hawking radiation from Kaluza-Klein black hole with squashed horizon

    Considering gravitational and gauge anomalies at the horizon, a new method that to derive Hawking radiations from black holes has been developed by Wilczek et al. In this paper, we apply this method to non-rotating and rotating Kaluza-Klein black holes with squashed horizon, respectively. For the rotating case, we found that, after the dimensional reduction, an effective U(1) gauge field is generated by an angular isometry. The results show that the gauge current and energy-momentum tensor fluxes are exactly equivalent to Hawking radiation from the event horizon.Comment: 15 pages, no figures, the improved version, accepted by Eur.     Relation Between Chiral Susceptibility and Solutions of Gap Equation in Nambu--Jona-Lasinio Model

    We study the solutions of the gap equation, the thermodynamic potential and the chiral susceptibility in and beyond the chiral limit at finite chemical potential in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model. We give an explicit relation between the chiral susceptibility and the thermodynamic potential in the NJL model. We find that the chiral susceptibility is a quantity being able to represent the furcation of the solutions of the gap equation and the concavo-convexity of the thermodynamic potential in NJL model. It indicates that the chiral susceptibility can identify the stable state and the possibility of the chiral phase transition in NJL model.Comment: 21 pages, 6 figures, misprints are correcte

    Direct Measurements of Absolute Branching Fractions for D0 and D+ Inclusive Semimuonic Decays

    By analyzing about 33 pb1\rm pb^{-1} data sample collected at and around 3.773 GeV with the BES-II detector at the BEPC collider, we directly measure the branching fractions for the neutral and charged DD inclusive semimuonic decays to be BF(D0μ+X)=(6.8±1.5±0.7)BF(D^0 \to \mu^+ X) =(6.8\pm 1.5\pm 0.7)% and BF(D+μ+X)=(17.6±2.7±1.8)BF(D^+ \to \mu^+ X) =(17.6 \pm 2.7 \pm 1.8)%, and determine the ratio of the two branching fractions to be BF(D+μ+X)BF(D0μ+X)=2.59±0.70±0.25\frac{BF(D^+ \to \mu^+ X)}{BF(D^0 \to \mu^+ X)}=2.59\pm 0.70 \pm 0.25

    A study of charged kappa in J/ψK±Ksππ0J/\psi \to K^{\pm} K_s \pi^{\mp} \pi^0

    Based on 58×10658 \times 10^6 J/ψJ/\psi events collected by BESII, the decay J/ψK±Ksππ0J/\psi \to K^{\pm} K_s \pi^{\mp} \pi^0 is studied. In the invariant mass spectrum recoiling against the charged K(892)±K^*(892)^{\pm}, the charged κ\kappa particle is found as a low mass enhancement. If a Breit-Wigner function of constant width is used to parameterize the kappa, its pole locates at (849±7714+18)i(256±4022+46)(849 \pm 77 ^{+18}_{-14}) -i (256 \pm 40 ^{+46}_{-22}) MeV/c2c^2. Also in this channel, the decay J/ψK(892)+K(892)J/\psi \to K^*(892)^+ K^*(892)^- is observed for the first time. Its branching ratio is (1.00±0.190.32+0.11)×103(1.00 \pm 0.19 ^{+0.11}_{-0.32}) \times 10^{-3}.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figure

    The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) was flown on the space shuttle Discovery during flight STS-91 in a 51.7 degree orbit at altitudes between 320 and 390 km. A total of 2.86 * 10^6 helium nuclei were observed in the rigidity range 1 to 140 GV. No antihelium nuclei were detected at any rigidity.     Search for an invisibly decaying Higgs boson in e^+e^- collisions at \sqrt{s} = 183 - 189 GeV

    A search for a Higgs boson decaying into invisible particles is performed using the data collected at LEP by the L3 experiment at centre-of-mass energies of 183 GeV and 189 GeV. The integrated luminosities are respectively 55.3 pb^-1 and 176.4 pb^-1. The observed candidates are consistent with the expectations from Standard Model processes. In the hypothesis that the production cross section of this Higgs boson equals the Standard Model one and the branching ratio into invisible particles is 100%, a lower mass limit of 89.2 GeV is set at 95% confidence level
