Superconducting phase transitions in frustrated Josephson-junction arrays on a dice lattice
Transport measurements are carried out on dice Josephson-junction arrays with
the frustration index and 1/2 which possess, within the limit of the
model, an accidental degeneracy of the ground states as a consequence of
the formation of zero-energy domain walls. The measurements demonstrate that
both the systems undergo a phase transition to a superconducting vortex-ordered
state at considerably high temperatures. The experimental findings are in
apparent contradiction with the theoretical expectation that frustration
effects in the system are particularly strong enough to suppress a
vortex-ordering transition down to near zero temperature. The data for
are more consistent with theoretical evaluations. The agreement between the
experiments and the Monte Carlo simulations of a model for
suggests that the order-from-disorder mechanism for the removal of an
accidental degeneracy may still be effective in the system. The
transport data also reveal that the dice arrays with zero-energy domain walls
experience a much slower critical relaxation than other frustrated arrays only

Superconducting transition of a two-dimensional Josephson junction array in weak magnetic fields
The superconducting transition of a two-dimensional (2D) Josephson junction
array exposed to weak magnetic fields has been studied experimentally.
Resistance measurements reveal a superconducting-resistive phase boundary in
serious disagreement with the theoretical and numerical expectations. Critical
scaling analyses of the characteristics indicate contrary to the
expectations that the superconducting-to-resistive transition in weak magnetic
fields is associated with a melting transition of magnetic-field-induced
vortices directly from a pinned-solid phase to a liquid phase. The expected
depinning transition of vortices from a pinned-solid phase to an intermediate
floating-solid phase was not observed. We discuss effects of the
disorder-induced random pinning potential on phase transitions of vortices in a

Stronger association of perceived health with socio-economic inequality during COVID-19 pandemic than pre-pandemic era
Abstract
Objective
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed peoples routine of daily living and posed major risks to global health and economy. Few studies have examined differential impacts of economic factors on health during pandemic compared to pre-pandemic. We aimed to compare the strength of associations between perceived health and socioeconomic position (household income, educational attainment, and employment) estimated before and during the pandemic.
Methods
Two waves of nationwide survey [on 2018(T1;n= 1200) and 2021(T2;n= 1000)] were done for 2200 community adults. A balanced distribution of confounders (demographics and socioeconomic position) were achieved across the T2 and T1 by use of the inverse probability of treatment weighting. Distributions of perceived health [= (excellent or very good)/(bad, fair, or good)] for physical-mental-social-spiritual subdomains were compared between T1 and T2. Odds of bad/fair/good health for demographics and socioeconomic position were obtained by univariate logistic regression. Adjusted odds (aOR) of bad/fair/good health in lower household income(< 3000 U.S. dollars/month) were retrieved using the multiple hierarchical logistic regression models of T1 and T2.
Results
Perceived health of excellent/very good at T2 was higher than T1 for physical(T1 = 36.05%, T2 = 39.13%; P= 0.04), but were lower for mental(T1 = 38.71%, T2 = 35.17%; P= 0.01) and social(T1 = 42.48%, T2 = 35.17%; P 0.05). AORs of bad/fair/good health in lower household income were stronger in T2 than T1, for mental [aOR (95% CI) = 2.15(1.68–2.77) in T2, 1.33(1.06–1.68) in T1; aOR difference = 0.82(P< 0.001)], physical [aOR (95% CI) = 2.64(2.05–3.41) in T2, 1.50(1.18–1.90) in T1; aOR difference = 1.14(P< 0.001)] and social [aOR (95% CI) = 2.15(1.68–2.77) in T2, 1.33(1.06–1.68) in T1; aOR difference = 0.35(P= 0.049)] subdomains.
Conclusions
Risks of perceived health worsening for mental and social subdomains in people with lower monthly household income or lower educational attainment became stronger during the COVID-19 pandemic compared to pre-pandemic era. In consideration of the prolonged pandemic as of mid-2022, policies aiming not only to sustain the monthly household income and compulsory education but also to actively enhance the perceived mental-social health status have to be executed and maintained
Prevalence, Distribution, and Concomitance of Whole-Spine Ossification of the Posterior Longitudinal Ligament and Ossification of the Ligament Flavum in South Koreans: A Whole-Spine-CT-Based Cross-Sectional Study
Objective No studies assessing the prevalence of ossification of the spinal ligament were conducted using whole-spine positron emission tomography and computed tomography (PET-CT) in healthy Koreans. We aimed to determine the prevalence of ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) and ossification of the ligament flavum (OLF) in healthy Koreans using whole-body PET-CT. Methods We reviewed whole-body PET-CT images captured during general health checkups at the General Health Promotion Center of our institution from January 2015 to 2020. OPLL and OLF were identified by the presence of heterotopic ossification in the posterior longitudinal ligament and ligament flavum on axial and sagittal PET-CT images. Results A total of 1,934 adults (1,645 men, 289 women) were included. The mean age was 48.05 years (range, 28–86 years). Among the 1,934 patients, 173 had OPLL (8.9%). The most commonly involved cervical vertebra levels arranged according to frequency were C4, C5, C3, and C6. OLF was observed in 125 patients (6.5%). The most commonly involved thoracic levels were T10, T11, and T5. The prevalence of OPLL and OLF was the highest in patients aged 60–69 years. Among the C-OPLL patients, 15.1% had T-OPLL, 5.0% had L-OPLL, and 25.8% had T-OLF. Conclusion Our study revealed the prevalence of OPLL and OLF in healthy Korean subjects. It was consistent with that in other Asian countries. The presence of OPLL and OLF at most locations correlated with the presence or absence of spinal ossification at other locations
Frustrated two-dimensional Josephson junction array near incommensurability
To study the properties of frustrated two-dimensional Josephson junction
arrays near incommensurability, we examine the current-voltage characteristics
of a square proximity-coupled Josephson junction array at a sequence of
frustrations f=3/8, 8/21, 0.382 , 2/5, and 5/12.
Detailed scaling analyses of the current-voltage characteristics reveal
approximately universal scaling behaviors for f=3/8, 8/21, 0.382, and 2/5. The
approximately universal scaling behaviors and high superconducting transition
temperatures indicate that both the nature of the superconducting transition
and the vortex configuration near the transition at the high-order rational
frustrations f=3/8, 8/21, and 0.382 are similar to those at the nearby simple
frustration f=2/5. This finding suggests that the behaviors of Josephson
junction arrays in the wide range of frustrations might be understood from

Relationship between the Retinal Thickness Analyzer and the GDx VCC Scanning Laser Polarimeter, Stratus OCT Optical Coherence Tomograph, and Heidelberg Retina Tomograph II Confocal Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscopy
PURPOSE: To assess the relationship between the retinal thickness analyzer (RTA) parameters, and those of the GDx VCC scanning laser polarimeter (GDx VCC), Stratus OCT optical coherence tomography (Stratus OCT), and Heidelberg retinal tomograph II confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (HRT II).
METHODS: Twenty-nine primary open-angle glaucoma patients were retrospectively included in this study. Measurements were obtained using the RTA, GDx VCC, Stratus OCT, and HRT II. We calculated the correlation coefficients between the parameters of RTA and those of the other studies.
RESULTS: Among the optic disc parameters of RTA, the cup volume was best correlated with Stratus OCT (R=0.780, p<0.001) and HRT II (R=0.896, p<0.001). Among the posterior pole retinal thickness parameters, the posterior pole abnormally thin area (PPAT) of the RTA and the inferior average of the GDx VCC were best correlated (R=-0.596, p=0.001). The PPAT of the RTA and the inferior maximum of the Stratus OCT were best correlated (R=-0.489, p=0.006). The perifoveal minimum thickness (PFMT) of the RTA and the cup shape measurement of the HRT II were best correlated (R=-0.565, p=0.004).
CONCLUSIONS: Many RTA optic disc parameters were significantly correlated with those of the Stratus OCT and HRT II. The RTA posterior pole retinal thickness parameters were significantly correlated with those of the GDx VCC, Stratus OCT and HRT II. The RTA optic disc and posterior pole retinal thickness parameters may be valuable in the diagnosis of glaucomaope
A Case of Minimal Change Disease Treated Successfully with Mycophenolate Mofetil in a Patient with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
The World Health Organization classifies lupus nephritis as class I to V or VI. However, a few cases of minimal change glomerulopathy have been reported in association with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Mycophenolate mofetil has been shown to be effective for treatment of minimal change disease and lupus nephritis. A 24-year-old woman diagnosed with SLE five years prior to presentation complained of a mild generalized edema. The urinalysis showed microscopic hematuria and proteinuria. The assessed amount of total proteinuria was 1,618 mg/24 hours. A renal biopsy demonstrated diffuse fusion of the foot processes of podocytes on electron microscopy. Mycophenolate mofetil was started in addition to the maintenance medications of prednisolone 10 mg/day and hydroxychloroquine 400 mg/day. After six months of treatment, the microscopic hematuria and proteinuria resolved, and the total urine protein decreased to 100 mg/24 hours
Charge-spin correlation in van der Waals antiferromagenet NiPS3
Strong charge-spin coupling is found in a layered transition-metal
trichalcogenide NiPS3, a van derWaals antiferromagnet, from our study of the
electronic structure using several experimental and theoretical tools:
spectroscopic ellipsometry, x-ray absorption and photoemission spectroscopy,
and density-functional calculations. NiPS3 displays an anomalous shift in the
optical spectral weight at the magnetic ordering temperature, reflecting a
strong coupling between the electronic and magnetic structures. X-ray
absorption, photoemission and optical spectra support a self-doped ground state
in NiPS3. Our work demonstrates that layered transition-metal trichalcogenide
magnets are a useful candidate for the study of correlated-electron physics in

A childhood case of spinal tuberculosis misdiagnosed as muscular dystrophy
Tuberculosis is primarily a pulmonary disease, but extra-pulmonary manifestations are not uncommon, especially in children and adolescents. Ten percent of extra pulmonary tuberculosis localizes to the bones and joints, and 56% of such cases affect the spine. We treated a childhood case of spinal tuberculosis misdiagnosed as muscular dystrophy in a patient without specific constitutional symptoms. We report this case because the patient had an unusual presentation of spinal tuberculosis
