    Organizational Citizenship Behaviors In Relation To Job Embeddedness, Organizational Identification, Job Performance, Voluntary Turnover Intention In Korea.

    The purpose of this article is to do determine whether the positive or the negative association between Organizational Citizenship Behaviors and Job Embeddedness, Organizational Identification, Job Performance, Voluntary Turnover Intention in Korea. At Present, the organizational costs of leaving a job are often very high. It is not surprising, then, that employee retention has the attention of top-level managers in today's organizations. Recently, Mitchell, Holtom, Lee, Sablyski, and Erez(2001) focused on why people stay rather than on how they leave. In particular, they drew attention to the reasons people stay through their job embeddedness construct. They aggregated job embeddedness correlated with intention to leave and predicted subsequent voluntary turnover. More recently, According to Lee, Mitchell, Sablynski, Burton & Holtom(2004), job embeddedness was disaggregated into its two major subdimensions, on-the-job (that is, organizational fit, links, and sacrifice) and off-the-job embeddedness (that is, community fit, links, and sacrifice). They revealed that off-the-job embeddedness was significantly predictive of subsequent "voluntary turnover". Also, they revealed that on-the-job embeddedness was significantly predictive of organizational citizenship. They predicted that employee withdrawal occurs over time, with a decision about performing preceding a decision about participating. On the basis of situational and theoretical backgrounds as above, the purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between on-the-job embeddedness and job performance, voluntary turnover intention, organizational identification in Korean employees and the mediating effect of organizational citizenship behavior in that relationship. To empirical study for test a model as above, 300 structured questionnaires were distributed to Korean employees in Seoul, Busan, and Gyeongnam, Korea. 255 were finally analyzed. The results revealed that individuals' fit, links to the organization and organization-related sacrifice significantly had negative effects on voluntary turnover intention and positive effects on job performance, organizational identification and that Organizational citizenship behavior mediated the relationship between on-the-job embeddedness and job performance, voluntary turnover intention, organizational identification. Implications for managers in organizations are suggested

    Molecular epidemiology of Japanese encephalitis virus circulating in South Korea, 1983-2005

    We sequenced the envelope (E) gene of 17 strains of the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) isolated in South Korea in 1983-2005 and compared the sequences with those from previously reported strains. Our results show the remarkable genetic stability of the E gene sequence in Korean JEV strains. Five pairs of E gene sequences from 10 Korean strains were identical, despite geographical differences and a maximum five-year time span. Sequence comparisons with other Asian strains revealed that the Korean strains are closely related to those from China, Japan, and Vietnam. Genotype 3 strains were predominant in Korea before 1993, when genotype 1 strain K93A07 was first isolated. The two genotypes were detected simultaneously in 1994 but since then, only genotype 1 has been isolated in South Korea. Thus, the genotype change occurred according to the year of isolation rather than the geographical origin

    Application and evaluation of the MLVA typing assay for the Brucella abortus strains isolated in Korea

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>A Brucella eradication program has been executed in Korea. To effectively prevent and control brucellosis, a molecular method for genetic identification and epidemiological trace-back must be established. As part of that, the MLVA typing assay was evaluated and applied to <it>B. abortus </it>isolates for analyzing the characteristics of the regional distribution and relationships of foreign isolates.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>A total of 177 isolates originating from 105 cattle farms for the period 1996 to 2008 were selected as representatives for the nine provinces of South Korea. A dendrogram of strain relatedness was constructed in accordance with the number of tandem repeat units for 17 loci so that it was possible to trace back in the restricted areas. Even in a farm contaminated by one source, however, the <it>Brucella </it>isolates showed an increase or decrease in one TRs copy number at some loci with high DI values. Moreover, those 17 loci was confirmed in stability via <it>in-vitro </it>and <it>in-vivo </it>passage, and found to be sufficiently stable markers that can readily identify the inoculated strain even if minor changes were detected. In the parsimony analysis with foreign <it>Brucella </it>isolates, domestic isolates were clustered distinctively, and located near the Central and Southern American isolates.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The MLVA assay has enough discrimination power in the <it>Brucella </it>species level and can be utilized as a tool for the epidemiological trace-back of the <it>B. abortus </it>isolates. But it is important to consider that <it>Brucella </it>isolates may be capable of undergoing minor changes at some loci in the course of infection or in accordance with the changes of the host.</p

    Genetic Variations Mir-10Aa\u3eT, Mir-30Ca\u3eG, Mir-181At\u3eC, and Mir-499Ba\u3eG and the Risk of Recurrent Pregnancy Loss in Korean Women

    This study investigated the genetic association between recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) and microRNA (miRNA) polymorphisms in miR-10aA\u3eT, miR-30cA\u3eG, miR-181aT\u3eC, and miR-499bA\u3eG in Korean women. Blood samples were collected from 381 RPL patients and 281 control participants, and genotyping of miR-10aA\u3eT, miR-30cA\u3eG, miR-181aT\u3eC, and miR-499bA\u3eG was carried out by TaqMan miRNA RT-Real Time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Four polymorphisms were identified, including miR-10aA\u3eT, miR-30cA\u3eG, miR-181aT\u3eC, and miR-499bA\u3eG. MiR-10a dominant model (AA vs. AT + TT) and miR-499bGG genotypes were associated with increased RPL risk (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 1.520, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.038−2.227, p = 0.032; AOR = 2.956, 95% CI = 1.168−7.482, p = 0.022, respectively). Additionally, both miR-499 dominant (AA vs. AG + GG) and recessive (AA + AG vs. GG) models were significantly associated with increased RPL risk (AOR = 1.465, 95% CI = 1.062−2.020, p = 0.020; AOR = 2.677, 95% CI = 1.066−6.725, p = 0.036, respectively). We further propose that miR-10aA\u3eT, miR-30cA\u3eG, and miR-499bA\u3eG polymorphisms effects could contribute to RPL and should be considered during RPL patient evaluation

    Primary Large Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Breast: Radiologic and Pathologic Findings

    Some breast neoplasms are classified as primary neuroendocrine carcinomas because they are positive for neuroendocrine markers. Although neuroendocrine carcinomas can originate from various organs of the body, primary neuroendocrine carcinomas of the breast are extremely rare. The diagnosis of primary neuroendocrine carcinoma of the breast can only be made if nonmammary sites are confidently excluded or if an in situ component can be found. Here we report a primary large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNL) involving the left breast. Breast ultrasonography revealed a lobulated, heterogeneous, low-echoic mass in the left breast, and the lesion ap-peared as a well-defined, highly-enhancing mass on a chest computed tomography scan. Ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy was performed on the mass, and primary LCNC was confirmed by histopathologic examination

    Species richness, distribution and genetic diversity of Caenorhabditis nematodes in a remote tropical rainforest

    BACKGROUND: In stark contrast to the wealth of detail about C. elegans developmental biology and molecular genetics, biologists lack basic data for understanding the abundance and distribution of Caenorhabditis species in natural areas that are unperturbed by human influence. METHODS: Here we report the analysis of dense sampling from a small, remote site in the Amazonian rain forest of the Nouragues Natural Reserve in French Guiana. RESULTS: Sampling of rotting fruits and flowers revealed proliferating populations of Caenorhabditis, with up to three different species co-occurring within a single substrate sample, indicating remarkable overlap of local microhabitats. We isolated six species, representing the highest local species richness for Caenorhabditis encountered to date, including both tropically cosmopolitan and geographically restricted species not previously isolated elsewhere. We also documented the structure of within-species molecular diversity at multiple spatial scales, focusing on 57 C. briggsae isolates from French Guiana. Two distinct genetic subgroups co-occur even within a single fruit. However, the structure of C. briggsae population genetic diversity in French Guiana does not result from strong local patterning but instead presents a microcosm of global patterns of differentiation. We further integrate our observations with new data from nearly 50 additional recently collected C. briggsae isolates from both tropical and temperate regions of the world to re-evaluate local and global patterns of intraspecific diversity, providing the most comprehensive analysis to date for C. briggsae population structure across multiple spatial scales. CONCLUSIONS: The abundance and species richness of Caenorhabditis nematodes is high in a Neotropical rainforest habitat that is subject to minimal human interference. Microhabitat preferences overlap for different local species, although global distributions include both cosmopolitan and geographically restricted groups. Local samples for the cosmopolitan C. briggsae mirror its pan-tropical patterns of intraspecific polymorphism. It remains an important challenge to decipher what drives Caenorhabditis distributions and diversity within and between species
