Microscopic calculation of 240Pu scission with a finite-range effective force
Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculations of hot fission in
have been performed with a newly-implemented code that uses the D1S
finite-range effective interaction. The hot-scission line is identified in the
quadrupole-octupole-moment coordinate space. Fission-fragment shapes are
extracted from the calculations. A benchmark calculation for
is obtained and compared to results in the literature. In
addition, technical aspects of the use of HFB calculations for fission studies
are examined in detail. In particular, the identification of scission
configurations, the sensitivity of near-scission calculations to the choice of
collective coordinates in the HFB iterations, and the formalism for the
adjustment of collective-variable constraints are discussed. The power of the
constraint-adjustment algorithm is illustrated with calculations near the
critical scission configurations with up to seven simultaneous constraints.Comment: 18 pages, 24 figures, to be published in Physical Review
On the Complexity of Temporal-Logic Path Checking
Given a formula in a temporal logic such as LTL or MTL, a fundamental problem
is the complexity of evaluating the formula on a given finite word. For LTL,
the complexity of this task was recently shown to be in NC. In this paper, we
present an NC algorithm for MTL, a quantitative (or metric) extension of LTL,
and give an NCC algorithm for UTL, the unary fragment of LTL. At the time of
writing, MTL is the most expressive logic with an NC path-checking algorithm,
and UTL is the most expressive fragment of LTL with a more efficient
path-checking algorithm than for full LTL (subject to standard
complexity-theoretic assumptions). We then establish a connection between LTL
path checking and planar circuits, which we exploit to show that any further
progress in determining the precise complexity of LTL path checking would
immediately entail more efficient evaluation algorithms than are known for a
certain class of planar circuits. The connection further implies that the
complexity of LTL path checking depends on the Boolean connectives allowed:
adding Boolean exclusive or yields a temporal logic with P-complete

Hypertonic solutions have been studied extensively in the treatment of hypovolemic shock, both in experimental and clinical models. Safety, efficacy, and long-term effects on animals and patients have been evaluated. The present article reviews indications, safety, mortality rates, and outcome in patients with hemorrhagic hypovolemic shock who were treated after admission with a hypertonic/hyperoncotic solution under strict observation in the emergency room
Pathophysiology of cancer cachexia
Cancer cachexia is a frequent complication observed in patients with malignant tumors. Although several decades have passed since the first focus on the metabolic dysfunction's associated with cancer, few effective therapeutic interventions have been successfully introduced into the medical armamentarium. The present study thoroughly reviews the basic pathophysiology of cancer cachexia and the treatment options already investigated in that field. Experimental and clinical studies were evaluated individually in order to clarify the intricate alterations observed in tumor-bearing patients. The difficulties in introducing sound and effective nutritional support or metabolic manipulation to reverse cancer cachexia are outlined in this review
MTDPNA in non-Oil International Organisations in Libyan Post Crisis
This paper investigates how non-oil international organisations (NOIO) in Libyan post-crisis assess management training and development programme (MTDP) needs. The current situation of MTDP needs assessment and factors that may influence MTDP are investigated. Questionnaire was distributed to (150) managers from nineteen NOIO. We find that performance and experience were the most common MTDPNA measures. Likewise, poor performance, lack of knowledge, and introduction of new work methods were the most common MTDPNA indicators. Customer dissatisfaction, poor service quality, low profitability, and lack of knowledge were also found that have a positive or negative influence on MTDPNA such as; organisational sectors, size, and ownership. Customer dissatisfaction, poor service quality, low profitability, and lack of knowledge were the most used positive indications for the hotel sector, services, manufacturing, and joint venture organisations. Our findings suggested that MTDPNA should be conducted at different times, and different methods should be used. Also, MTDPNA decisions have to be based in a systematic way rather than targeting single or a group of individuals, and have to be delivered equall
Stochastic Development Regression on Non-Linear Manifolds
We introduce a regression model for data on non-linear manifolds. The model
describes the relation between a set of manifold valued observations, such as
shapes of anatomical objects, and Euclidean explanatory variables. The approach
is based on stochastic development of Euclidean diffusion processes to the
manifold. Defining the data distribution as the transition distribution of the
mapped stochastic process, parameters of the model, the non-linear analogue of
design matrix and intercept, are found via maximum likelihood. The model is
intrinsically related to the geometry encoded in the connection of the
manifold. We propose an estimation procedure which applies the Laplace
approximation of the likelihood function. A simulation study of the performance
of the model is performed and the model is applied to a real dataset of Corpus

Forever Changed: The Transformation of Rural America through Immigration
This qualitative case study reveals the impact of immigration on one rural Midwestern community and its longtime residents. The 123 phone interviews and sessions conducted with two focus groups provide compelling insights into residents’ perceptions of immigration and immigrants as well as their ensuing personal and collective struggle with and adaptation to an immigration process that forever changed the community. The residents offer prudent insights for policy makers, immigrants, and other communities facing similar challenges. While the focus of the study is on the macro conversion of the community through the eyes of its residents, the author stresses the need for social workers to refresh their professional roots in community organization and highlights the vital role they play in helping communities adapt effectively while negotiating the needs of residents and immigrants alike
