The catalytic activities of various noble metals (Pt, Pd, Rh, and Ru) supported on siliceous SBA-15 and Al-containing SBA-15 (AlSBA-15) for hydrodesulfurization (HDS) of thiophene at 350 C were investigated. AlSBA-15 was prepared by a grafting method using aluminum isopropoxide (Al(OC3H7)3) hexane solution. The HDS activity of Pt/AlSBA-15 catalyst was the highest among those of various supported noble metal catalysts, and this activity was higher than that of commercial CoMo/Al2O3 HDS catalyst. The catalysts were characterized by XRD analysis, hydrogen adsorption, 2-propanol dehydration, cumene cracking, and FT-IR. Dispersion of Pt on SBA-15 was remarkably enhanced by Al grafting. It was revealed that the acidity of AlSBA-15 was higher than that of SBA-15. Furthermore, Brønsted acid sites were observed on AlSBA-15. FT-IR spectra of thiophene adsorbed on AlSBA-15 indicate that thiophene molecules interact with Brønsted acid sites on the surface of AlSBA-15 and that the strength of this interaction was stronger than that of SBA-15. Based on these results, thiophene molecules activated on Brønsted acid site of AlSBA-15 and hydrogen molecules activate to form spillover hydrogen on Pt particles in Pt/AlSBA-15 catalyst in the HDS of thiophene

Background: Topical therapy is effective for dry eye, and its prolonged effects should help in maintaining the quality of life of patients with dry eye. We previously reported that the oral administration of rebamipide (Reb), a mucosal protective agent, had a potent therapeutic effect on autoimmune lesions in a murine model of Sjögren’s syndrome (SS). However, the effects of topical treatment with Reb eyedrops on the ocular lesions in the murine model of SS are unknown. Methods and Finding: Reb eyedrops were administered to the murine model of SS aged 4–8 weeks four times daily. Inflammatory lesions of the extraorbital and intraorbital lacrimal glands and Harderian gland tissues were histologically evaluated. The direct effects of Reb on the lacrimal glands were analyzed using cultured lacrimal gland cells. Tear secretions of Reb-treated mice were significantly increased compared with those of untreated mice. In addition to the therapeutic effect of Reb treatment on keratoconjunctivitis, severe inflammatory lesions of intraorbital lacrimal gland tissues in this model of SS were resolved. The mRNA expression levels of IL-10 and mucin 5Ac in conjunctival tissues from Reb-treated mice was significantly increased compared with those of control mice. Moreover, lactoferrin production from lacrimal gland cells was restored by Reb treatment. Conclusion: Topical Reb administration had an anti-inflammatory effect on the ocular autoimmune lesions in the murine model of SS and a protective effect on the ocular surfaces

It is reported that viral infections have been increasing recent years. An epidemic parotitis is an acute systemic mumps viral infection that occurs most commonly in children, and clinically characterized by non-suppurative parotitis. Parotitis, meningitis, orchitis, and pancreatitis are clinical manifestations of mumps. The differential diagnosis of parotitis includes infections caused by other virus or bacteria. We experience two cases of parotitis. First is an 18-year-old female with bacterial parotitis, and second is a case of 33-year-old male orchitis with epidemic parotitis. Although sterility caused by orchitis is an uncommon complication, it is important for adults to make new viral preventive strategy against such as Mumps

Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs ( NSAIDS) are widely used in athletes. Poultice are also widely used in athletes. One of them has side effect of photosensitive. It can be avoided if athlete knows its side effects. So in general, athletes should know medicinal of NSAIDS of their own use. Risk of injury occasion in athletes is high. Injured fingers or elbow of athletes should be rightly receiving cure of them. So they would not have hangover from them in future

BACGROUND: We have previously reported mid-term results of a study, which ended in January 2000, on the Bicarbon valve. The study concluded that the valve showed excellent clinical results, associated with a low incidence of valve-related complications. In the present study, the same patients were prospectively followed for an additional 5 years. METHODS: Forty-four patients had aortic valve replacement (AVR), 48 had mitral valve replacement (MVR), and 13 had both aortic and mitral valve replacement (DVR). The mean age of the 105 patients was 61.2 ± 11.3 years. The mean follow-up was 6.1 ± 1.9 years with a cumulative follow-up of 616 patient-years. RESULTS: There were 5 early deaths (4.7%: 4 in the AVR group and 1 in the MVR group) and 21 late deaths (3.4%/patient-year: 5 valve related deaths and 16 valve unrelated deaths). Survival at 8 years was 75.2 ± 7.0% in the AVR group, 76.6 ± 6.2% in the MVR group, and 55.4 ± 16.1% in the DVR group. The linearized incidence of thrombo-embolic complications, hemorrhagic complications, and paravalvular leaks in all patients was 0.65 ± 1.48%, 0.81 ± 1.69%, and 0.16 ± 0.54%/patient-year respectively. No other complications were observed. CONCLUSION: The Bicarbon prosthetic heart valve has shown excellent long-term clinical results, associated with a low incidence of valve-related complications

It is important for us as doctors or trainers to keep writing papers on rare cases. We experience three rare cases of respiratory disease. First is a 44-year-old male with allergic broncho pulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) whose complain is chest pain. He is improved by the treatment of prednisolone. Second is a severe case of 20-year-old female with mycoplasma pneumonia accompanied with encephalopaty. She is also improved by the treatment of MINO and RKM. Third is a 69-year-old female with liver cirrhosis accompanied with hypoxemia (hepatopulmonary syndrome). Liver cirrhosis can the cause of right to left shunt. Hepatopulmonary syndrome will be well treated by liver transplantation
