Spindle oscillations are generated in the dorsal thalamus and modulated by the thalamic reticular nucleus

Spindle waves occur during the early stage of slow wave sleep and are thought to arise in the thalamic reticular nucleus (TRN), causing inhibitory postsynaptic potential spindle-like oscillations in the dorsal thalamus that are propagated to the cortex. We have found that thalamocortical neurons exhibit membrane oscillations that have spindle frequencies, consist of excitatory postsynaptic potentials, and co-occur with electroencephalographic spindles. TRN lesioning prolonged oscillations in the medial geniculate body (MGB) and auditory cortex (AC). Injection of GABA~A~ antagonist into the MGB decreased oscillation frequency, while injection of GABA~B~ antagonist increased spindle oscillations in the MGB and cortex. Thus, spindles originate in the dorsal thalamus and TRN inhibitory inputs modulate this process, with fast inhibition facilitating the internal frequency and slow inhibition limiting spindle occurrence

Serum alkaline phosphatase predicts survival outcomes in patients with skeletal metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma

OBJECTIVE: Bone metastasis is frequently associated with nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The diagnosis and follow-up of bone metastatic patients usually relies on skeletal X-ray and bone scintigraphy, which are time-consuming and costly. This study aimed to evaluate whether serum alkaline phosphatase offers clinical value in predicting the clinical response and survival outcome for skeletal metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma. METHODS: Serum alkaline phosphatase was measured at baseline and then before each cycle of treatment in 416 nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients with bone metastasis. The correlations between the pre-treatment and post-treatment alkaline phosphatase levels and the treatment efficacy were analyzed using the chi-square test. Survival was analyzed using the Kaplan–Meier method and then compared using the log-rank test. 上海嘉定区35岁以上首诊测压工作的回顾与展望

Objective: To understand the policy development of blood pressure test blood pressure test among residents above 35 years old at first visit in Jiading district in Shanghai in order to provide a better reference for the development of the blood pressure test. Methods: Retrospect is from the following three aspects: the policy advancement of the blood pressure measurement, the progress of the work and the next step of the development of blood pressure test to first diagnosis above 35 years old. Results: The total of policy documents related to prevention and treatment of chronic disease, published by national, Shanghai municipal and Jiading District government department are 185. There are 22 policy documents aspects of the prevention and control of hypertension among these documents, and 11 involving measurement of blood pressure test in the first diagnosis patients above 35 years old, 5.95% proportion of above total policy documents. These policy documents involving blood pressure test are technical solutions. There are 3 policy documents (1 Shanghai municipal, 2 Jiading District) involving measurement of blood pressure test published in 1999 and before; and 4 policy documents (2 national, 2 Shanghai municipal) during 2000-2008; and 4 policy documents (4 national) published after 2009. At present, the work runs well in Jiading district, and the work runs better in the community health service center than the comprehensive hospital. Conclusions: More and more documents were released from the national department, provincial department and local health department so that solid policy guarantees the work of blood pressure test for residents above 35 years old at first visit in Jiading district in Shanghai. The development and use of information software provides a powerful tool for the pressure measurement. Along with the perfect of supporting measures, the work of blood pressure test to first diagnosis above 35 years old will be further developed and improved.目的  了解上海嘉定区35岁以上首诊测压工作的发展历程，为更好地推进首诊测压工作提供参考。方法  按照政策出台时间、类别和内容，围绕国家、上海市和嘉定区三份层面，从测压政策的演变、测压工作的进展和下一步的发展三份方面对上海嘉定区35岁以上首诊测压工作的进展和走向进行了回顾与展望。结果  国家、上海市、嘉定区出台的相关慢性病政策文件共185份，其中高血压防控方面的有22份，涉及到首诊测压政策方面的有11份，占慢病政策的5.95%。在出台的首诊测压政策文件中，均为技术性的文件。1999年及以前的政策有3份（其中上海市1份、嘉定区2份）；2000～2008年期间的政策共有4份（其中国家2份、上海市2份）；2009年及以后的政策有4份（均为国家的）。目前全区的测压工作进展良好，社区卫生服务中心的测压工作相对比二级医院的发展得好。结论  国家、省市和县区级卫生部门的政策性文件的陆续出台，为35岁以上首诊测压工作提供坚实的政策性保障，信息软件的开发与使用为测压工作提供了有力的手段。 随着测压工作的各项配套措施推进，35岁以上首诊测压工作会进一步得到发展与提高

Quantum correlation in three-qubit Heisenberg model with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction

We investigate the pairwise thermal quantum discord in a three-qubit XXZ model with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction. We find that the DM interaction can increase quantum discord to a fixed value in the anti- ferromagnetic system, but decreases quantum discord to a minimum first, then increases it to a fixed value in the ferromagnetic system. Abrupt change of quantum discord is observed, which indicates the abrupt change of groundstate. Dynamics of pairwise thermal quantum discord is also considered. We show that thermal discord vanishes in asymptotic limit regardless of its initial values, while thermal entanglement suddenly disappears at finite time.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figure

Spectrophotometric detection of uric acid with enzyme-like reaction mediated 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine oxidation

ABSTRACT. WO3 nanosheets (NSs) were prepared and characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The obtained WO3 NSs exhibited peroxidase-like catalytic activity, which can catalyze H2O2 to oxidize       3,3 ',5,5 '-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to generate oxidized TMB (oxTMB) with an absorption peak centered at 652 nm. Based on this, a facile method for the spectrophotometric determination of H2O2 was established. Under the selected conditions, the increase in absorbance of oxTMB enabled the detection of H2O2 ranging from 2.0 to 180 μM. Considering the fact that H2O2 is one of the products of urate oxidase (UAO)-catalyzed uric acid (UA) oxidation, a convenient method for the selective determination of UA was further developed with the help of UV–vis spectrophotometer. The increase of absorbance at 652 nm showed a linear response to UA concentration over the range of 2.0–180 μM. The limit of detection for UA was as low as 1.25 μM. More importantly, the proposed method was applied to the determination of UA in serum samples with satisfactory results.   KEY WORDS: Spectrophotometric, WO3 nanosheets, Uric acid, Determination   Bull. Monitoring and controlling index system research for coordinated development of public Traditional Chinese Medicine hospital in city

目的  从服务医院领导层决策的角度出发，构建适用于城市公立中医院的综合性管理控制指标体系，监控医院发展运行状况，预警医疗质量和医院安全等问题，为强化科学决策与管理，促进公立医院协调发展提供工具和思路。对象与方法  以河南省洛阳正骨医院为研究现场，通过文献分析法和专家访谈法构建中医医院管控指标框架，应用Delphi法对指标进行筛选。结果  确立了包括医疗质量、医院安全、中医特色、经营效益、创新能力和人力资源6大维度、20个二级指标，72个三级指标的城市公立中医院管控指标体系。讨论  管控指标体系可操作性强，体现了中医医院运营、发展特色，符合深化公立医院改革方向，对于加强公立中医院科学管理与考评具有重要参考和借鉴价值。Objective:To build a comprehensive monitoring and controlling index system for public Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) hospitals in city from the perspective of service hospital leadership decision, , to monitor the development of the hospital running and to warn medical quality and the security issues, in order to provide ideas for promoting the coordinated development of the hospital, and strengthening scientific management. Subjects and Methods: Based on the study on Luoyang Orthopedics Hospital, we build Chinese Medicine Hospital monitoring and controlling framework of indicators through literature analysis and expert interviews, and use Delphi method for indicators screening. Results: Establish a monitoring and controlling index system for the public TCM Hospitals in city which includes 6 dimensions such as medical quality, hospital safety, characteristics Chinese medicine treatment, operational performance, innovation ability, human resources, 20 second-class indicators, and 72 third-class indicators. Discuss: The quantification and maneuverability of monitoring and controlling index system reflects the operational needs and characteristics of TCM Hospitals and conforms to the national reform orientation for public hospitals, which probably has important reference values in reinforcing the scientific management and evaluation of the public hospitals
