    ServeNet: A Deep Neural Network for Web Services Classification

    Automated service classification plays a crucial role in service discovery, selection, and composition. Machine learning has been widely used for service classification in recent years. However, the performance of conventional machine learning methods highly depends on the quality of manual feature engineering. In this paper, we present a novel deep neural network to automatically abstract low-level representation of both service name and service description to high-level merged features without feature engineering and the length limitation, and then predict service classification on 50 service categories. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach, we conduct a comprehensive experimental study by comparing 10 machine learning methods on 10,000 real-world web services. The result shows that the proposed deep neural network can achieve higher accuracy in classification and more robust than other machine learning methods.Comment: Accepted by ICWS'2

    Quantitative Optimization of Hand-Held Probe External Pressure on Dermatological Microvasculature Using Optical Coherence Tomography based Angiography

    Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)-based angiography (OCTA) is a high-resolution, high-speed, and non-invasive imaging method that can provide vascular mapping of subcutaneous tissue up to approximately 2 mm. In dermatology applications of OCTA, handheld probes are always designed with a piece of transparent but solid contact window placed at the end of the probe to directly contact the skin for achieving better focusing between the light source and the tissue, reducing noise caused by minor movements. The pressure between the contact window and the skin is usually uncontrollable, and high external pressure affects the quality of microvascular imaging by compressing the vessels and obstructing the underlying blood flow. Therefore, it is necessary to determine a pressure range to ensure that the vessels can be fully imaged in high-quality images. In this paper, two pressure sensors were added to the existing handheld OCT probe, and the imaging probe was fixed to a metal stand and adjusted vertically to change the pressure between the probe and the tested skin site, a gradient of roughly 4 kPa (with 1–2 kPa error) increase was applied in each experiment, and the impact of pressure to the vessel was calculated. The experiment involved a total of five subjects, three areas of which were scanned (palm, back of the hand, and forearm). The vessel density was calculated to evaluate the impact of external pressure on angiography. In addition, PSNR was calculated to ensure that the quality of different tests was at a similar level. The angiography showed the highest density (about 10%) when the pressure between the contact window on the probe and the test area was between 3 and 5 kPa. As the pressure increased, the vascular density decreased, and the rate of decrease varied in different test areas. After fitting all the data points according to the different sites, the slope of the fitted line, i.e., the rate of decrease in density per unit value of pressure, was found to be 4.05% at the palm site, 6.93% at the back of the hand, and 4.55% at the forearm site. This experiment demonstrates that the pressure between the skin and contact window is a significant parameter that cannot be ignored. It is recommended that in future OCTA data collection processes and probe designs, the impact of pressure on the experiment be considered

    Robust Ultrafast Projection Pipeline for Structural and Angiography Imaging of Fourier-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography

    The current methods to generate projections for structural and angiography imaging ofFourier-Domain optical coherence tomography (FD-OCT) are significantly slow for prediagnosisimprovement, prognosis, real-time surgery guidance, treatments, and lesion boundary definition.This study introduced a robust ultrafast projection pipeline (RUPP) and aimed to develop and evaluate the efficacy of RUPP. RUPP processes raw interference signals to generate structural projectionswithout the need for Fourier Transform. Various angiography reconstruction algorithms were utilized for efficient projections. Traditional methods were compared to RUPP using PSNR, SSIM, andprocessing time as evaluation metrics. The study used 22 datasets (hand skin: 9; labial mucosa: 13)from 8 volunteers, acquired with a swept-source optical coherence tomography system. RUPP significantly outperformed traditional methods in processing time, requiring only 0.040 s for structuralprojections, which is 27 times faster than traditional summation projections. For angiography projections, the best RUPP variation took 0.15 s, making it 7518 times faster than the windowed eigendecomposition method. However, PSNR decreased by 41–45% and SSIM saw reductions of 25–74%.RUPP demonstrated remarkable speed improvements over traditional methods, indicating its potential for real-time structural and angiography projections in FD-OCT, thereby enhancing clinicalprediagnosis, prognosis, surgery guidance, and treatment efficacy

    The Impact of Smoking Status on the Efficacy of Erlotinib in Patients with Advanced Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

    Background and objective Erlotinib is a targeted treatment for advanced non-small cell lung cancer. Smoking status may be one of influencing factors of the efficacy of erlotinib. The aim of this study is to explore the impact of smoking status on the efficacy of erlotinib in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer. Methods Patients with nonsmall cell lung cancer who had been previously treated with at least one course of platinum based chemotherapy received 150 mg oral doses of erlotinib once daily until disease progression. Response rate, progression-free survival, overall survival were analyzed in the different smoking status groups. Kaplan-Meier method was used to analyze the survival rate. Results Fortyeight patients were enrolled into the study from December 2005 to September 2006. We followed up these patients until 28th December, 2008. Median follow up time was 30 months. The compliance rate was 100%. The response rate was 32.1% in the smoking group and 35% in the never smoking group (P=0.836); The median progression-free survival was 3 months and 9 months, respectively (P=0.033). The median overall survival was 5 months and 17 months, respectively (P=0.162). Conclusion Erlotinib is an effective drug for advanced non-small cell lung cancer patients with different smoking status. Progressionfree survival is better in the never smoking patients than the smoking patients

    Achieving ultra-high strength and ductility in Mg–9Al–1Zn–0.5Mn alloy via selective laser melting

    Fabrication of the Mg–9Al–1Zn–0.5Mn alloy with excellent mechanical performance using selective laser melting (SLM) technology is quite difficult owing to the poor weldability and low boiling point. To address these challenges and seek the optimal processing parameters, response surface methodology was systematically utilized to determine the appropriate SLM parameter combinations. Mg–9Al–1Zn–0.5Mn sample with high relative density (99.5 ​± ​0.28%) and favorable mechanical properties (microhardness ​= ​95.6 ​± ​5.28 HV0.1, UTS ​= ​370.2 ​MPa, and At ​= ​10.4%) was achieved using optimized SLM parameters (P ​= ​120 ​W, v ​= ​500 ​mm/s, and h ​= ​45 ​μm). Sample ​is dominated by a random texture and microstructure is primarily constituted by quantities of fine equiaxed grains (α-Mg phase), a small amount of β-Al12Mg17 structures (4.96 ​vol%, including spherical: [21¯1¯0]α// [111]β and long lath-like: [21¯1¯0]α// [11¯5]β or [1¯011]α// [32¯1¯]β), and some short rod-shaped Al8Mn5 nanoparticles. Benefiting from grain boundary strengthening, solid solution strengthening, and precipitation hardening of various nanoparticles (β-Al12Mg17 and Al8Mn5), high-performance Mg–9Al–1Zn–0.5Mn alloy biomedical implants can be fabricated. Precipitation hardening dominates the strengthening mechanism of the SLM Mg–9Al–1Zn–0.5Mn alloy.</p

    Challenging isodimorphism concepts: formation of three crystalline phases in poly(hexamethylene-ran-octamethylene carbonate) copolymers

    In this work, poly(hexamethylene-ran-octamethylene carbonate) copolycarbonates were synthesized by melt polycondensation in a wide range of compositions. The copolymers displayed some of the characteristic isodimorphic thermal behavior, such as crystallization for all the compositions and a pseudoeutectic behavior of the melting temperature (Tm) versus composition. The pseudoeutectic point was located at 33 mol % poly(octamethylene carbonate) (POC) content (i.e., corresponding to the PH67O33C copolymer). Surprisingly, the crystallinities (Xc) for a wide range of copolymer compositions were higher than those of the parent components, a phenomenon that has not been observed before in isodimorphic random copolymers. The structural characterization, performed by wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS) and small-angle X-ray scattering experiments, revealed unexpected results depending on composition. On the one hand, the poly(hexamethylene carbonate) (PHC)- and POC-rich copolymers crystallize in PHC- and POC-type crystals, as expected. Moreover, upon cooling and heating, in situ WAXS experiments evidenced that these materials undergo reversible solid–solid transitions [d-a (PHC) and d-a-ß (POC)] present in the parent components but at lower temperatures. On the other hand, a novel behavior was found for copolymers with 33–73 mol % POC (including the pseudoeutectic point), which are those with higher crystallinities than the parent components. For these copolymers, a new crystalline phase that is different from that of both homopolymers was observed. The in situ WAXS results for these copolymers confirmed that this novel phase is stable upon cooling and heating and does not show any crystallographic feature of the parent components or their solid–solid transitions. FTIR experiments confirmed this behavior, revealing that the new phase adopts a polyethylene-like chain conformation that differs from the trans-dominant ones exhibited by the parent components. This finding challenges the established concepts of isodimorphism and questions whether a combination of crystallization modes (isodimorphism and isomorphism) is possible in the same family of random copolymers just by changing the composition.This research was financed by the project PID2020- 113045GB-C21 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/ 501100011033 and by the Basque Government through grant IT1503-22.     Genetic improvement of resistance to blast and bacterial blight of the elite maintainer line Rongfeng B in hybrid rice (Oryza sativa L.) by using marker-assisted selection

    Rice blast caused by the fungus Magnaporthe grisea and bacterial blight (BB) caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. Oryzae (Xoo) are two major rice diseases in the world. An elite, early maturing maintainer line of hybrid rice, Rongfeng B hybrid rice is susceptible to both blast and BB. For improving its diseases resistance, BL122 and CBB23 were used as the donors of blast resistance genes Pi1 and Pi2 and BB resistance gene Xa23, respectively. These resistant genes were introgressed into Rongfeng B by using a marker-assisted backcross breeding programs, and two improved lines D521 and D524 with Pi1, Pi2 and Xa23 were developed. The results indicated that both improved lines showed high resistance to leaf and neck blast and BB. The resistance frequencies for the rice blast and the length of lesions resulting from BB ranged from 96.7 to 100% and 0.77 to 1.18 cm, respectively. The two improved lines showed the desired variation in the majority of evaluated agronomic traits, including the number of grains per panicle, the grains weight, plant height, and seed setting rate. A new cytoplasmic male sterile line, Rongfeng 3A, with Pi1, Pi2, and Xa23, was successfully developed through successive backcross breeding.Keywords: Gene pyramiding, marker-assisted backcross breeding, rice blast, bacterial bligh

    Effect of Hyperglycemia at Presentation on Outcomes in Acute Large Artery Occlusion Patients Treated With Solitaire Stent Thrombectomy

    Background: Sporadic data showed hyperglycemia at presentation is associated with poor outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) under mechanical thrombectomy (MT) treatment.Objective: This study aims to evaluate the relationship of admission hyperglycemia and outcomes in patients treated with solitaire stent thrombectomy.Methods: This multicenter prospective study registered patients with AIS due to anterior circulation large vessel occlusion (LVO) suitable for MT with Solitaire stent retriever. We analyzed the influence of admission hyperglycemia (≥7.8 mmol/L) and serum glucose on functional independence which is defined as modified Rankin Scale score (mRS) of 0–2, symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) and several outcomes of interest using univariable and multiple logistic regression analysis.Results: This study involved 17 stroke centers across China and consecutively recruited 149 patients. Patients with hyperglycemia at presentation less frequently exhibited a functional independence at 3 months than patients without hyperglycemia (22.2 vs. 66.4%; odds ratio 0.75, 95% confidence interval 0.61–0.92; P = 0.005). Higher glucose levels were correlated with worse outcome (per 1 mmol/L increase in glucose: odds ratio for mRS score 0–2 at 3 months 0.17, 95% confidence interval 0.06–0.45; P &lt; 0.001) at 3 months and sICH (per 1 mmol/L increase in glucose: odds ratio for sICH was 8.2, 95% confidence interval 1.13–29.57; P &lt; 0.001) after thrombectomy.Conclusions: Higher admission serum glucose and hyperglycemia were independently correlated with lower functional independence at 3 months in patients treated with Solitaire stent thrombectomy of anterior circulation LVO. Higher admission serum glucose was also associated with sICH after thrombectomy
