How does employer brand affect work engagement? The mediating role of emotional labor

Bu araştırma işveren markasının duygusal emek ve işe adanma üzerindeki etkilerini incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Geliştirilen teorik model yapısal eşitlik modellemesi kullanılarak test edilmiştir. Araştırmada kullanılan veriler Ankara ilinde faaliyet gösteren beş yıldızlı otel işletmelerinin işgörenlerinden elde edilmiştir. Bulgulara göre, işveren markası duygusal emeğin yüzeysel davranış boyutunu anlamlı olarak etkilemezken, derin ve doğal davranış boyutlarını olumlu ve anlamlı olarak etkilemektedir. Diğer yandan, derin ve doğal davranışlar işe adanma üzerinde olumlu ve anlamlı bir etkiye sahipken, yüzeysel davranış işe adanma üzerinde anlamlı bir etkiye sahip değildir. Aracılık etkisi açısından, derin ve doğal davranışlar işveren markasının işe adanma üzerindeki etkisine aracılık etmektedir. Sonuç olarak, bu araştırma işveren markasının örgütlere sunduğu yararlardan bir kesit sunarak alanyazına katkı sağlamaktadır.This research aims to investigate the effects of employer brand on emotional labor and work engagement. The developed theoretical model was tested using structural equation modeling. The data used in the research were obtained from the employees working in five-star hotels in Ankara. According to the findings, while employer brand does not significantly affect the surface acting dimension of emotional labor, it affects the deep acting and natural acting dimensions positively and significantly. On the other hand, deep acting and natural acting have a positive and significant effect on work engagement, whereas surface acting does not have a significant effect on work engagement. In terms of mediation effect, deep and natural actings mediate the impact of employer brand on work engagement. As a result, this research contributes to the literature by providing a cross-section of the benefits of the employer brand to organizations

By converting the rectangular basis potential V(x,y) into the form as V(r)+V(r, phi) described by the pseudo central plus noncentral potential, particular solutions of the two dimensional Schrodinger equation in plane-polar coordinates have been carried out through the analytic approaching technique of the Nikiforov and Uvarov (NUT). Both the exact bound state energy spectra and the corresponding bound state wavefunctions of the complete system are determined explicitly and in closed forms. The ethical leadership and climate as the determiners of the organizational identification: A field study on hotel establishments

Bu araştırmanın amacı, bireylerin örgütleriyle özdeşleşmelerinde etik liderliğin ve örgütün genel etik ikliminin etkili olup olmadığını araştırmaktır. Araştırma değişkenler arasındaki ilişkileri açıklayan ve araştırma alanının durumunu ortaya koyan ilişkisel bir araştırma niteliğindedir. Çalışma Türkiye'de faaliyet gösteren beş yıldızlı otel işletmelerini kapsamaktadır. Araştırmada elde edilen verilerin analizinde öncelikle tanımlayıcı istatistikler yapılmış hipotezlerin testi için çok değişkenli istatistikî yöntemlerden Yapısal Eşitlik Modeli tercih edilmiştir. Çalışmanın anket kısmı üç bölümden ve demografik değişkenlerden oluşmaktadır. İlk kısımda demografik değişkenleri içeren sorular yer almaktadır. İkinci kısımda 36 sorudan oluşan etik iklim ölçeği bulunmaktadır. Üçüncü kısımda etik liderlik ölçeğine yönelik on soru yer almaktadır Dördüncü bölümde ise örgütsel özdeşleşmeyi ölçmek amacıyla altı maddelik özdeşleşme ölçeği bulunmaktadır. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgular doğrultusunda, etik liderliğin etik iklim ve örgütsel özdeşleşme üzerinde ayrıca etik iklimin de örgütsel özdeşleşme üzerinde etkili olduğu görülmektedir. Etik liderlikle örgütsel özdeşleşme düzeyi arasında pozitif yönlü ve anlamlı bir ilişki olduğu araştırmada elde edilen bulgular arasında yer almaktadır (r=0,537; p<0,001). Buna ilaveten etik iklim boyutları ile etik liderlik arasında da pozitif yönlü ve anlamlı bir ilişki vardır. Araştırmada etik iklim boyutlarıyla örgütsel özdeşleşme arasında da pozitif yönlü ve anlamlı ilişkiler tespit edilmiştir. Çalışmada literatürde yer alan sınırlı sayıda çalışmadan farklı olarak etik liderlik ve örgütsel özdeşleşme ile araçsallık etik iklimi arasında pozitif yönlü ve olumlu bir sonuç olduğu görülmektedir. Araştırma sonuçlarında; etik liderlikle örgütsel özdeşleşme arasında etik iklimin aracılık etkisinin olduğu görülmektedir. Çalışmada ilk olarak etik liderliğin örgütsel özdeşleşme üzerindeki etkisinin g= 0.60 olduğu aracı değişkenin modele dahil edilmesiyle bu etkinin g= 0.26'ya düştüğü belirlenmiştir. Buna ilaveten etik liderlik ve örgütsel özdeşleşme arasındaki ilişkide etik iklimin alt boyutlarının da bir aracılık etkisi olduğu tespit edilmiştir.The aim of this study is to research whether ethical leadership and common ethical climate in the organizations has an impact on individuals' identification with their organizations or not. The study, which is a relational one, explains the relationships between variables and presents the status of the field of the study. The study covers five-star hotel establishments in Turkey. First, descriptive statistics, then structural equation modeling among multivariate statistics were used in analyzing the findings of the study. The questionnaire of the study consists of three sections and demographical variables. The first section consists of demographical questions. The second section consists of an ethical climate scale which has 36 items. In the third section, there are ten questions regarding ethical leadership scale. In the fourth section, there is an identification scale with six items to evaluate organizational identification. Findings from this research indicates that ethical leadership has an impact on ethical climate and organizational identification; and furthermore, ethical climate has an impact on organizational identification. That there is a positive relationship between the levels of ethical leadership and organizational identification is among the study's findings (r=0,537; p<0,001). In addition to this, there is positive and significant relationship between the dimensions of ethical climate and ethical leadership. Positive and significant relationships were detected between ethical climate dimensions and organizational identification. In this study, apart from the other studies in the literature, it is seen that there is a positive consequences between ethical leadership, organizational identification and instrumentalist ethical climate. Findings of this research indicates that ethical climate has a partial mediation effect between ethical leadership and organizational identification. In the study, the impact of ethical climate on organizational identification is found as g= 0,60; and, after the inclusion of the mediating variable to the model, this impact falls back to g= 0,26. In addition to all these, the subdimensions of ethical climate have a partial mediation effect on the relationship between ethical leadership and organizational identification

Geography, Geopolitical Mentality, Kemalist Geopolitics, Turkish Armed Forces ABSTRACT LOCATING TURKEY: GEOPOLITICAL MENTALITY AND THE MILITRAY IN TURKEY This dissertation is an attempt to develop a critical intellectual practice against the historical centrality of geopolitical reasonings, which are part of nationalism, militarism, exceptionalism and military-centered strong state mentality in Turkey. By problematizing the concept of “geo-power” rooted in critical geopolitics in general and the “Kemalist geopolitical mentality” in particular, the dissertation concerns with the formal geopolitical discourse of Turkish Armed Forces in its historical process. Based on the conceptual and epistemological framework of critical geopolitics, the dissertation treats geopolitics not as a neutral consideration of pregiven “geographical” facts, but as a deeply ideological and politicized form of analysis. Eschewing the traditional question of how geography does or can influence politics, the dissertation investigates how geographical/geopolitical claims and assumptions of the Turkish Armed Forces legitimizes the role of the military as an agent in the normal political structure and how it constructs Turkey’s identity in (inter)national level with reference to the Kemalist ideology. The dissertation examines this problematization in three empirically oriented chapters. Firstly, it problematizes the conceptual maps of geopolitics by focusing particularly on the relationship between geography and geopolitics within the framework of the discourse (as power/knowledge relations) of the Turkish military. Secondly, it examines Turkey’s international position by exposing the relationship between Kemalism and geopolitics in terms of exceptionalism and militarism as parts of the nation-state mentality. Thirdly, it shows how the existing geopolitical discourse is established within the school and ideology of national education of Turkey

The Transformation of the Geopolitical Vision in Turkish Foreign Policy

By problematizing the relationship between geopolitics and foreign policy, this paper investigates the discursive assumptions of two different geopolitical visions of Turkish foreign policy. It seeks to explain how different political actors spatialize Turkey's geography and represent it as having a different, exceptional, and unique geopolitical position in the international system in order to justify foreign policy. By investigating how geopolitical representations produced in each of the different geopolitical vision serve to enable, restrict, and rationalize a different set of role choices for Turkey in the international system, the article is aiming to provide a critical geopolitical perspective in order to understand the discursive transformation of the geopolitical vision in the Justice and Development Party (Adalet ve Kalknma Partisi) period

The Effects of Paternalist Leadership on Organizational Citizenship Behavior : Mediating Role of Distributive Justice

In terms of its content, paternalism is a leadership style that reflects the communities in the east rather than the western world. Paternalism has also been researched in Turkey and paternalistic leadership styleis in agreement with the Turkish social structure. The mediating role of distributive justice on paternalistic leadership has been examined in this study. For this purpose, 325 members of the workforce of 4 and 5 star hotels in Istanbul have been interviewed. As a result of data analysis, the hypotheses asserting that ethical and helpfulness leadership dimensions, having paternalistic leadership dimension, affect distributive justice are not supported, while other hypotheses of the study are supported. In addition, the authoritarian leadership has a full-mediated effect on paternalistic leadership
