BILINGUAL (ZHUANG AND HAN) EDUCATION IN URBAN GUANGXI

    Get PDF
Though many people see China as an ethnically and culturally homogenous country, it is actually host to a wide variety of ethnicities. For example, though Mandarin is China’s official language, and Cantonese is commonly used in Hong Kong, the Zhuang language is spoken by an ethnic group of the same name whose population is equal to 90% of Guangxi Zhuangzu Autonomous Region (GZAR), one of China’s five autonomous regions (Zhou, 2000). Nanning, the capital city of GZAR, has a population of approximately 7.55 million, and the Zhuang accounts for 4.21 million citizens, equal to 55.78% of the city’s population. However, their language is not represented in schools. As a result, the younger generation is increasingly unfamiliar with their linguistic and cultural heritage, which has created integrational communication barriers in their homes and a loss of their cultural identity and heritage. To address these concerns, it is critical to create new education policies that mandate bilingual education in GZAR. The current study seeks to identify potential barriers to implementing bilingual education, develop strategies that could be used to support bilingual education, and determine the benefits of implementing Zhuang-Han education

“Are you really proud of me?” Influence of stereotype threats on college athletes’ career thoughts

Removing the vulnerability of a stereotype threat can weaken the stereotype’s negative influence. However, stereotype threats can be produced simply by reminding individuals of their stigmatized social identity. In this study, a typical explicit stereotype threat was compared with two types of reports on positive role models to determine whether the influence of stereotypes varied according to the type of report. In total, 178 college athletes were recruited and randomly assigned to the explicit threat group (EX group, n = 46), report on a special case group (RS group, n = 42), report on a general topic group (RG group, n = 46), or neutral report group (control, n = 44). The participants first read a short text with manipulated context. They then completed scales assessing career adaptability and optimism and were asked to choose whether to complete a scholastic test with high or low difficulty or not take the test at all. The career adaptability and optimism scores of the control group were higher than those of the RS and EX group. The career optimism scores of the RG group were higher than those of the EX group. Fewer participants opted for the difficult version of the scholastic text in the EX and RS groups; the majority of participants in these groups chose to not take any test. The results indicated the influence of negative stereotype threats and indicated that reading the news report on the special case did not have a positive and encouraging effect on the participants

    Electrospinning in Tissue Engineering

    Get PDF
Electrospinning employs a strong electric field to draw charged polymer fluids or melts into fibers with diameter in the range from tens of nanometers to microns. The relatively simple experimental setup, a wide range of suitable materials, and the possibility of incorporating bioactive molecules into the fibers make electrospinning a versatile process in creating scaffolds for tissue engineering applications. This chapter reviews the electrospinning process and discusses how solution and processing parameters affect the electrospun fiber structure and function. A brief overview of various surface modification methods used for enhancing the cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation on the fibrous scaffolds is provided. Commonly used methods include physical entrapment, chemical treatment, and coelectrospinning. The application of electrospun fibrous scaffolds in tissue engineering is reviewed, focusing on recent progress in the regeneration of skin, vasculature, bone, ligaments, and tendons

Embedding Representation of Academic Heterogeneous Information Networks Based on Federated Learning

Academic networks in the real world can usually be portrayed as heterogeneous information networks (HINs) with multi-type, universally connected nodes and multi-relationships. Some existing studies for the representation learning of homogeneous information networks cannot be applicable to heterogeneous information networks because of the lack of ability to issue heterogeneity. At the same time, data has become a factor of production, playing an increasingly important role. Due to the closeness and blocking of businesses among different enterprises, there is a serious phenomenon of data islands. To solve the above challenges, aiming at the data information of scientific research teams closely related to science and technology, we proposed an academic heterogeneous information network embedding representation learning method based on federated learning (FedAHE), which utilizes node attention and meta path attention mechanism to learn low-dimensional, dense and real-valued vector representations while preserving the rich topological information and meta-path-based semantic information of nodes in network. Moreover, we combined federated learning with the representation learning of HINs composed of scientific research teams and put forward a federal training mechanism based on dynamic weighted aggregation of parameters (FedDWA) to optimize the node embeddings of HINs. Through sufficient experiments, the efficiency, accuracy and feasibility of our proposed framework are demonstrated

The Role of Positive Communication in Hospital Social Work Service

    Get PDF
Objective: To study the role of positive communication in the social work service. Method: 82 families who were treated and hospitalized in the hospital were studied through dividing them randomly into an observation group and a control group, each with 41 families. Specifically, the control group was provided with routine social work services, while the observation group involved positive communication by volunteers, medical workers and psychological social workers during services. Then, the satisfactions of both groups were compared. Result: Families in the observation group has significantly higher satisfactions in social work services than families in the control group. The difference is statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion: Using positive communication methods in hospital social work services contributes to effectively enhancing patients and their families’ satisfactions of the social work service as well as the hospital
