    Einstein-Yang-Mills from pure Yang-Mills amplitudes

We present new relations for scattering amplitudes of color ordered gluons and gravitons in Einstein-Yang-Mills theory. Tree-level amplitudes of arbitrary multiplicities and polarizations involving up to three gravitons and up to two color traces are reduced to partial amplitudes of pure Yang-Mills theory. In fact, the double-trace identities apply to Einstein-Yang-Mills extended by a dilaton and a B-field. Our results generalize recent work of Stieberger and Taylor for the single graviton case with a single color trace. As the derivation is made in the dimension-agnostic Cachazo-He-Yuan formalism, our results are valid for external bosons in any number of spacetime dimensions. Moreover, they generalize to the superamplitudes in theories with 16 supercharges.Comment: 28 pages, v2: references and appendix added, published versio

Darboux coordinates, Yang-Yang functional, and gauge theory

The moduli space of SL(2) flat connections on a punctured Riemann surface with the fixed conjugacy classes of the monodromies around the punctures is endowed with a system of holomorphic Darboux coordinates, in which the generating function of the variety of SL(2)-opers is identified with the universal part of the effective twisted superpotential of the corresponding four dimensional N=2 supersymmetric theory subject to the two-dimensional Omega-deformation. This allows to give a definition of the Yang-Yang functionals for the quantum Hitchin system in terms of the classical geometry of the moduli space of local systems for the dual gauge group, and connect it to the instanton counting of the four dimensional gauge theories, in the rank one case.Comment: 25 pages, 11 figures, v1. in the proceedings of Cargese conference "String Theory: Formal Developments and Applications" (Jun 21-Jul 3, 2010); reported also at six other conferences in 2010, v2. references correcte

Yang-Yang thermodynamics on an atom chip

We investigate the behavior of a weakly interacting nearly one-dimensional (1D) trapped Bose gas at finite temperature. We perform in situ measurements of spatial density profiles and show that they are very well described by a model based on exact solutions obtained using the Yang-Yang thermodynamic formalism, in a regime where other, approximate theoretical approaches fail. We use Bose-gas focusing [Shvarchuck etal., Phys. Rev. Lett. 89, 270404 (2002)] to probe the axial momentum distribution of the gas, and find good agreement with the in situ results.Comment: extended introduction and conclusions, and minor changes throughout; accepted for publication in Phys. Topological Yang-Mills cohomology in pure Yang-Mills Theory

Using the first order formalism (BFYM) of the Yang-Mills theory we show that it displays an embedded topological sector corresponding to the field content of the Topological Yang-Mills theory (TYM). This picture arises after a proper redefinition of the fields of BFYM and gives a clear representation of the non perturbative part of the theory in terms of the topological sector. In this setting the calculation of the vevvev of a YM observable is translated into the calculation of a corresponding (non topological) quantity in TYM. We then compare the topological observables of TYM with a similar set of observables for BFYM and discuss the possibility of describing topological observables in YM theory.Comment: 12 pages, Latex, one reference added, to appear in Phys. Yang-Mills Integrals

SU(N) Yang-Mills integrals form a new class of matrix models which, in their maximally supersymmetric version, are relevant to recent non-perturbative definitions of 10-dimensional IIB superstring theory and 11-dimensional M-theory. We demonstrate how Monte Carlo methods may be used to establish important properties of these models. In particular we consider the partition functions as well as the matrix eigenvalue distributions. For the latter we derive a number of new exact results for SU(2). We also report preliminary computations of Wilson loops. (Based on talk presented by M. Yang-Mills Integrals

Two results are presented for reduced Yang-Mills integrals with different symmetry groups and dimensions: the first is a compact integral representation in terms of the relevant variables of the integral, the second is a method to analytically evaluate the integrals in cases of low order. This is exhibited by evaluating a Yang-Mills integral over real symmetric matrices of order 3.Comment: LaTeX, 10 pages, references added and minimal change

Symbol error rate analysis for M-QAM modulated physical-layer network coding with phase errors

    No full text
Recent theoretical studies of physical-layer network coding (PNC) show much interest on high-level modulation, such as M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (M-QAM), and most related works are based on the assumption of phase synchrony. The possible presence of synchronization error and channel estimation error highlight the demand of analyzing the symbol error rate (SER) performance of PNC under different phase errors. Assuming synchronization and a general constellation mapping method, which maps the superposed signal into a set of M coded symbols, in this paper, we analytically derive the SER for M-QAM modulated PNC under different phase errors. We obtain an approximation of SER for general M-QAM modulations, as well as exact SER for quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK), i.e. 4-QAM. Afterwards, theoretical results are verified by Monte Carlo simulations. The results in this paper can be used as benchmarks for designing practical systems supporting PNC. © 2012 IEEE

    Generalized Yang-Baxter Equation

    Get PDF
A generalization of the Yang-Baxter equation is proposed. It enables to construct integrable two-dimensional lattice models with commuting two-layer transfer matrices, while single-layer ones are not necessarily commutative. Explicit solutions to the generalized equations are found. They are related with Botzmann weights of the sl(3)sl(3) chiral Potts model.Comment: 13 pages, TeX file. IHEP-93-?
