SEMANTIC DESCRIPTION FOR THE TAXONOMY OF THE GEOSPATIAL SERVICES

With the advances in the World Wide Web and Geographic Information System, geospatial services have progressively developed to provide geospatial data and processing functions online. In order to efficiently discover and manage the large amount of geospatial services, these services are registered with semantic descriptions and categorized into classes according to certain taxonomies. Most taxonomies for geospatial services are only provided in the human readable format. The lack of semantic description for taxonomies limits the semantic-based discovery of geospatial services. The objectives of this paper are proposing an approach to semantically describe the taxonomy of geospatial services and using the semantic descriptions for taxonomy to improve the discovery of geospatial services. A semantic description framework is introduced for geospatial service taxonomy to describe not only the hierarchical structure of classes but also the definitions for all classes. The semantic description of taxonomy base on this framework is further used to simplify the semantic description and registration of geospatial services and enhance the semantic-based service matching method

Longitudinal response of parallel hoisting system with time-varying rope length

The longitudinal vibration model of parallel hoisting system with tension auto balance device (TABD) attached to the ends of all hoisting ropes is established, and the governing equations of the model are derived based on Hamilton’s principle. Galerkin’s effort is applied to discretize the infinite-dimensional partial differential equations into a set of finite-dimensional ordinary differential equations, so that the model can be solved with numerical solutions. Subsequently, an ADAMS simulation is carried out, and the simulation result has verified the validity of the numerical solution. Consequently, in order to investigate the longitudinal responses of the two hoisting ropes, the model is calculated numerically with different coefficients and excitations. The results of the numerical solution have shown that: For the parallel hoisting system with TABD attached to the ends of all hoisting ropes, the conveyance will be the main excitation that affects the longitudinal vibration of the ropes, and the system acceleration will also cause a relatively large longitudinal vibration in the ropes

The DHX33 RNA helicase promotes mRNA translation initiation

DEAD/DEAH box RNA helicases play essential roles in numerous RNA metabolic processes, such as mRNA translation, pre-mRNA splicing, ribosome biogenesis, and double-stranded RNA sensing. Herein we show that a recently characterized DEAD/DEAH box RNA helicase, DHX33, promotes mRNA translation initiation. We isolated intact DHX33 protein/RNA complexes in cells and identified several ribosomal proteins, translation factors, and mRNAs. Reduction of DHX33 protein levels markedly reduced polyribosome formation and caused the global inhibition of mRNA translation that was rescued with wild-type DHX33 but not helicase-defective DHX33. Moreover, we observed an accumulation of mRNA complexes with the 80S ribosome in the absence of functional DHX33, consistent with a stalling in initiation, and DHX33 more preferentially promoted structured mRNA translation. We conclude that DHX33 functions to promote elongation-competent 80S ribosome assembly at the late stage of mRNA translation initiation. Our results reveal a newly recognized function of DHX33 in mRNA translation initiation, further solidifying its central role in promoting cell growth and proliferation
