Comparative analysis of the strength characteristics of one-seat upholstered furniture frame with rails of Pinus Sylvestris L. and side plates of PB, OSB and PLY boards was carried out. 3D geometric model of the upholstered furniture frame was created by Autodesk Inventor Pro®. Linear static analyses were carried out by the method of finite elements (FEM) simulating light-service loading. The orthotropic material characteristics of the used materials were considered in the analyses. Two variants of corner joints in the frame (model A – staples and PVAc; model B - staples, PVAc and strengthening elements under the rail of the seat) were considered. The laboratory established coefficients of rotational stiffness of used staple corner joints in the skeleton were considered in finite element analysis (FEA). As result, the distribution of the maximum and minimum principal stresses in the 3D model of upholstered furniture frame side plates were derived and analysed. The worst failure indexes according to Tsai-Wu failure criteria were calculated at heavy-service load. The study provided database of strength values that can help in the engineering of upholstered furniture frames with side plates of PB, OSB and PLY.Provedena je usporedba svojstava čvrstoće okvira ojastučenog naslonjača s poveznicima od borovine (Pinus Sylvestris L.) i s bočnim stranicama od drvnih ploča (iverice, OSB ploče i furnirske ploče). Promatrane su dvije varijante kutnih spojeva okvira (model A – sponke i PVAc; model B – sponke, PVAc i pojačanja poveznika ispod sjedala). Analizom konačnih elemenata (FEA) razmatrani su laboratorijski utvrđeni koefi cijenti rotacijske krutosti sponki upotrijebljenih za kutne spojeve okvira. Time je dobivena i analizirana raspodjela najvećih i najmanjih glavnih naprezanja u 3D modelu bočnih stranica potkonstrukcije ojastučenog namještaja.

A Review of Big Data in Road Freight Transport Modeling: Gaps and Potentials

    Get PDF
Road transport accounted for 20% of global total greenhouse gas emissions in 2020, of which 30% come from road freight transport (RFT). Modeling the modern challenges in RFT requires the integration of different freight modeling improvements in, e.g., traffic, demand, and energy modeling. Recent developments in \u27Big Data\u27 (i.e., vast quantities of structured and unstructured data) can provide useful information such as individual behaviors and activities in addition to aggregated patterns using conventional datasets. This paper summarizes the state of the art in analyzing Big Data sources concerning RFT by identifying key challenges and the current knowledge gaps. Various challenges, including organizational, privacy, technical expertise, and legal challenges, hinder the access and utilization of Big Data for RFT applications. We note that the environment for sharing data is still in its infancy. Improving access and use of Big Data will require political support to ensure all involved parties that their data will be safe and contribute positively toward a common goal, such as a more sustainable economy. We identify promising areas for future opportunities and research, including data collection and preparation, data analytics and utilization, and applications to support decision-making

The aim of this study is a comparative metabolomic analysis between the endangered species Astragalus membranaceus and endemic species Astragalus thracicus concerning cycloartane saponins. In addition, in vitro shoots, callus, and suspension cultures of A. thracicus were successfully established to conserve the biodiversity of those endemic species and to increase the amount of produced saponins. The comparison was made according to the quantity of cycloartane saponins astragaloside I (1), astragaloside II (2), and astragaloside IV (4) to the reference standards for the same compounds by UHPLC-HRESI-MS analysis. The in vitro root cultures of A. thracicus reached two folds higher amounts of saponins (1.50 mg/g DW (1), 1.01 mg/g DW (2), and 0.91 mg/g DW (3)) than the native root of A. thracicus (1.14 mg/g DW (1) 0.47 mg/g DW (2), 0.40 mg/g DW (3)), and up to six times higher when compared with roots A. membranaceus (0.23 mg/g DW (1), 0.18 mg/g DW (2) and 0.05 mg/g DW (3))

AbstractThe bacterial heat shock protein Hsp33 is a redox-regulated chaperone activated by oxidative stress. In response to oxidation, four cysteines within a Zn2+ binding C-terminal domain form two disulfide bonds with concomitant release of the metal. This leads to the formation of the biologically active Hsp33 dimer. The crystal structure of the N-terminal domain of the E. coli protein has been reported, but neither the structure of the Zn2+ binding motif nor the nature of its regulatory interaction with the rest of the protein are known. Here we report the crystal structure of the full-length B. subtilis Hsp33 in the reduced form. The structure of the N-terminal, dimerization domain is similar to that of the E. coli protein, although there is no domain swapping. The Zn2+ binding domain is clearly resolved showing the details of the tetrahedral coordination of Zn2+ by four thiolates. We propose a structure-based activation pathway for Hsp33

Arylnaphthalene lignans with a focus Linum species: a review on phytochemical, biotechnological and pharmacological potential

    Get PDF
Lignans are a large group of dimeric phenylpropanoids with a long and distinguished history of medicinal use in the ancient cultures of many peoples. The two main groups, -aryltetralin and arylnaphthalene lignans, are leading compounds with important pharmacological properties and a wide range of biological activities. While the first group is well studied mainly for the production of podophyllotoxin, for arylnaphthalene lignans, the data on the availability of a sustainable resource for their production is are still insufficient. The Linum genus, comprising approximately 180 species, is notable for its arylnaphthalene lignans production like justicidin B and isojusticidin B. The pharmacological potential of arylnaphthalene lignans includes cytotoxic, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antiprotozoal effects. The review highlights the use of biotechnology by in vitro cultures for optimising lignan production. Structural elucidation of novel lignans underscores the ongoing diversity and potential discoveries in this botanical domain, providing an important additional information of arylnaphthalene lignans
