Hisao Kitamura's Educational Theory of Music: From the Viewpoint of Character Building

The purpose of this study is to examine Hisao Kitamura's educational theory of music from the viewpoint of the theory and the method of character building. Kitamura considered that only in the position of intuition of art, a person can acquire the personal position in which he becomes free, creative, moral and true self and cultivate the union character of goodness, truth and beauty. He tried to cultivate children's character by cultivating children's musical and esthetic intuition by music. As the concrete method, Kitamura considered it important to choose the teaching materials with a high effect of making children obtain pure intuition of art, to make children contemplated on the teaching materials and to make approaches to not intellects but feelings such as imagination and moods as much as possible

Early Detection of Adverse Drug Reaction Signals by Association Rule Mining Using Large-Scale Administrative Claims Data

INTRODUCTION: Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are a leading cause of mortality worldwide and should be detected promptly to reduce health risks to patients. A data-mining approach using large-scale medical records might be a useful method for the early detection of ADRs. Many studies have analyzed medical records to detect ADRs; however, most of them have focused on a narrow range of ADRs, limiting their usefulness. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to identify methods for the early detection of a wide range of ADR signals. METHODS: First, to evaluate the performance in signal detection of ADRs by data-mining, we attempted to create a gold standard based on clinical evidence. Second, association rule mining (ARM) was applied to patient symptoms and medications registered in claims data, followed by evaluating ADR signal detection performance. RESULTS: We created a new gold standard consisting of 92 positive and 88 negative controls. In the assessment of ARM using claims data, the areas under the receiver-operating characteristic curve and the precision-recall curve were 0.80 and 0.83, respectively. If the detection criteria were defined as lift > 1, conviction > 1, and p-value < 0.05, ARM could identify 156 signals, of which 90 were true positive controls (sensitivity: 0.98, specificity: 0.25). Evaluation of the capability of ARM with short periods of data revealed that ARM could detect a greater number of positive controls than the conventional analysis method. CONCLUSIONS: ARM of claims data may be effective in the early detection of a wide range of ADR signals

Evaluation of heat extraction through sapphire fibers for the GW observatory KAGRA

Currently, the Japanese gravitational wave laser interferometer KAGRA is under construction in the Kamioka mine. As one main feature, it will employ sapphire mirrors operated at a temperature of 20K to reduce the impact from thermal noise. To reduce seismic noise, the mirrors will also be suspended from multi-stage pendulums. Thus the heat load deposited in the mirrors by absorption of the circulating laser light as well as heat load from thermal radiation will need to be extracted through the last suspension stage. This stage will consist of four thin sapphire fibers with larger heads necessary to connect the fibers to both the mirror and the upper stage. In this paper, we discuss heat conductivity measurements on different fiber candidates. While all fibers had a diameter of 1.6mm, different surface treatments and approaches to attach the heads were analyzed. Our measurements show that fibers fulfilling the basic KAGRA heat conductivity requirement of $\kappa\geq$5000W/m/K at 20K are technologically feasible.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figure

Enantiomer-selective Anti-influenza Activity of Bakuchiol

Background: Novel therapeutic approaches against influenza are required. Bakuchiol is a phenolic isoprenoid found in Babchi seeds. Results: Bakuchiol enantiomer-selectively inhibited influenza A viral infection and growth and activated the Nrf2 pathway. Conclusion: Bakuchiol showed novel enantiomer-selective anti-influenza viral activity. Significance: The study of bakuchiol will contribute to the development of novel approaches to influenza therapy

Sm系及びCe系充填スクッテルダイト化合物の熱電特性

Filled skutterudites have been actively studied as potentially useful thermoelectric materials. SmT4P12 (T=Fe, Ru, Os) and LaxCel-xT4P12(T=Ru, Os) (0 ≤ x ≤ O.2) with the filled skutterudite-type structure have been prepared at high temperature and high pressure. The structure of samples was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction. The thermoelectric properties of these compounds have been investigated by means of electrical resistivity, Seebeck coefficient and thermal conductivity measurements. SmFe4P12 and SmOs4P12 behaved metallic down to 5K, while SmRu4P12 shows metal-insulation transition around 16K. SmFe4P12 showed significantly high values of Seebeck coefficient (46μV/K), comparing to other metallic compounds at the temperature 600K. LaxCel-xT4P12 (T=Ru, Os) (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.2) showed semiconducting behavior, and the power factor was optimized by doping 10% La in CeRu4P12.投稿論
