    Effect of alloying elements on magnesium alloy damping capacities at room temperature

    Alloying is a good approach to increasing its strength but leads to a reduction of damping to pure magnesium. Classifying the alloying characteristics of various alloying elements in magnesium alloys and their combined effects on the damping and mechanical properties of magnesium alloys is important. In this paper, the properties of the Mg-0.6wt%X binary alloys were analyzed through strength measurements and dynamic mechanical analysis. The effects of foreign atoms on solid-solution strengthening and dislocation damping were studied comprehensively. The effect of solid solubility on damping capacity can be considered from two perspectives: the effect of single solid-solution atoms on the damping capacities of the alloy, and the effect of solubility on the damping capacities of the alloy. The results provide significant information that is useful in developing high-strength, high-damping magnesium alloys. This study will provide scientific guidance regarding the development of new types of damping magnesium alloys

    Elemental and Sr–Nd–Pb isotope geochemistry of the Cenozoic basalts in Southeast China : insights into their mantle sources and melting processes.

    We analyzed whole-rock major and trace elements and Sr–Nd–Pb isotopes of the Cenozoic basalts in Southeast China to investigate their mantle source characteristics and melting process. These basalts are spatially associated with three extensional fault systems parallel to the coast line. After correction for the effect of olivine microlites on bulk-rock compositions and the effect of crystal fractionation, we obtained primitive melt compositions for these samples. These primitive melts show increasing SiO2, Al2O3 but decreasing FeO, MgO, TiO2, P2O5, CaO and CaO/Al2O3 from the interior to the coast. Such spatial variations of major element abundances and ratios are consistent with a combined effect of fertile source compositional variation and increasing extent and decreasing pressure of decompression melting from beneath the thick lithosphere in the interior to beneath the thin lithosphere in the coast. These basalts are characterized by incompatible element enrichment but varying extent of isotopic depletion. This element-isotope decoupling is most consistent with recent mantle source enrichment by means of low-degree melt metasomatism that elevated incompatible element abundances without yet having adequate time for isotopic ingrowth in the mantle source regions. Furthermore, Sr and Nd isotope ratios show significant correlations with Nb/Th, Nb/La, Sr/Sr⁎ and Eu/Eu⁎, which substantiates the presence of recycled upper continental crustal material in the mantle sources of these basalts. Pb isotope ratios also exhibit spatial variation, increasing from the interior to the coastal area. The significant correlations of major element abundances with Pb isotope ratios indicate that the Pb isotope variations also result from varied extent and pressure of decompression melting. We conclude that the elevated Pb isotope ratios from the interior to coast are consistent with increasing extent of decompression melting of the incompatible element depleted mantle matrix, which hosts enriched Pb isotope compositions

    Theoretical study of the two-proton halo candidate 17^{17}Ne including contributions from resonant continuum and pairing correlations

    With the relativistic Coulomb wave function boundary condition, the energies, widths and wave functions of the single proton resonant orbitals for 17^{17}Ne are studied by the analytical continuation of the coupling constant (ACCC) approach within the framework of the relativistic mean field (RMF) theory. Pairing correlations and contributions from the single-particle resonant orbitals in the continuum are taken into consideration by the resonant Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) approach, in which constant pairing strength is used. It can be seen that the fully self-consistent calculations with NL3 and NLSH effective interactions mostly agree with the latest experimental measurements, such as binding energies, matter radii, charge radii and densities. The energy of π\pi2s1/2_{1/2} orbital is slightly higher than that of π1d5/2\pi1d_{5/2} orbital, and the occupation probability of the (π(\pi2s1/2)2_{1/2})^2 orbital is about 20%, which are in accordance with the shell model calculation and three-body model estimation

    Procjena prijelazne stabilnosti dvopodručnog energetskog sustava s CSC-STATCOM-om zasnovanom na LQR-u

    A current source converter (CSC) based static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) is a shunt flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) device, which has a vital role as a stability support for small and large transient instability in an interconnected power network. A robust linear quadratic regulator (LQR) based controller for CSC-STATCOM is proposed. In this paper, LQR based CSC-STATCOM is designed to enhance the transient stability of two-area two-machine power system. First of all, modeling & LQR based controller design for CSC-STATCOM are described. After that, the impact of the proposed scheme on the test system with different disturbances is demonstrated. The feasibility of the proposed scheme is demonstrated through simulation in MATLAB and the simulation results show an improvement in the transient stability of power system with CSC-STATCOM. Also, the robustness and effectiveness of CSC-STATCOM are better rather than other shunt FACTS devices (SVC & VSC-STATCOM) in this paper.Statički sinkroni kompenzator (STATCOM) zasnovan na pretvaraču strujnog izvora (CSC) je uređaj za izmjenični prijenos s fleksibilnim "shuntom" (FACTS), koji značajno doprinosi stabilnosti malih i srednjih prijelaznih nestabilnosti u međusobno povezanoj energetskoj mreĆŸi. Ovdje je predloĆŸen robusni sustav upravljanja zasnovan na linearnom kvadratičnom regulatoru (LQR) za CSC-STATCOM. U ovom radu, CSC-STATCOM zasnovan na LQR-u dizajniran je za povećanje stabilnosti dvopodručnog energetskog sustava s dva motora. Prvo su opisani postupak modeliranja te upravljački sustav zasnovan na LQR-u za CSC-STATCOM. Nakon toga, prikazan je utjecaj predstavljene sheme na ispitni sustav uz prisutnost različitih poremećaja. Provedivost predstavljenog pristupa je prikazana kroz MATLAB simulacije čiji rezultati prikazuju poboljĆĄanje u prijelaznoj stabilnosti energetskog sustava s CSC-STATCOM-om. Također, u ovom radu je prikazana veća robusnost i efikasnost CSC-STATCOM "shunt" FACTS uređaja u odnosu na SVC i VSC-STATCOM

    Measurement of branching fractions for the inclusive Cabibbo-favored ~K*0(892) and Cabibbo-suppressed K*0(892) decays of neutral and charged D mesons

    The branching fractions for the inclusive Cabibbo-favored ~K*0 and Cabibbo-suppressed K*0 decays of D mesons are measured based on a data sample of 33 pb-1 collected at and around the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BES-II detector at the BEPC collider. The branching fractions for the decays D+(0) -> ~K*0(892)X and D0 -> K*0(892)X are determined to be BF(D0 -> \~K*0X) = (8.7 +/- 4.0 +/- 1.2)%, BF(D+ -> ~K*0X) = (23.2 +/- 4.5 +/- 3.0)% and BF(D0 -> K*0X) = (2.8 +/- 1.2 +/- 0.4)%. An upper limit on the branching fraction at 90% C.L. for the decay D+ -> K*0(892)X is set to be BF(D+ -> K*0X) < 6.6%

    Measurements of J/psi Decays into 2(pi+pi-)eta and 3(pi+pi-)eta

    Based on a sample of 5.8X 10^7 J/psi events taken with the BESII detector, the branching fractions of J/psi--> 2(pi+pi-)eta and J/psi-->3(pi+pi-)eta are measured for the first time to be (2.26+-0.08+-0.27)X10^{-3} and (7.24+-0.96+-1.11)X10^{-4}, respectively.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure

    A Monte Carlo program based on Geant3 has been developed for BESII detector simulation. The organization of the program is outlined, and the digitization procedure for simulating the response of various sub-detectors is described.     Study of J/ψ→ωK+K−J/\psi \to \omega K^+K^-

    New data are presented on J/ψ→ωK+K−J/\psi \to \omega K^+K^- from a sample of 58M J/ψJ/\psi events in the upgraded BES II detector at the BEPC. There is a conspicuous signal for f0(1710)→K+K−f_0(1710) \to K^+K^- and a peak at higher mass which may be fitted with f2(2150)→KKˉf_2(2150) \to K\bar K. From a combined analysis with ωπ+π−\omega \pi ^+ \pi ^- data, the branching ratio BR(f0(1710)→ππ)/BR(f0(1710)→KKˉ)BR(f_0(1710)\to\pi\pi)/BR(f_0(1710) \to K\bar K) is <0.11< 0.11 at the 95% confidence level.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures.     Search for the Rare Decays J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e, J/Psi --> D- e+ nu_e, and J/Psi --> D0bar e+ e-

    We report on a search for the decays J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c., J/Psi --> D- e+ nu_e + c.c., and J/Psi --> D0bar e+ e- + c.c. in a sample of 5.8 * 10^7 J/Psi events collected with the BESII detector at the BEPC. No excess of signal above background is observed, and 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions are set: B(J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c.)<4.8*10^-5, B(J/Psi --> D- e+ nu_e + c.c.) D0bar e+ e- + c.c.)<1.1*10^-5Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure
