The meaning of the expression "high-technology fibres" is explained. These are grouped into high-performance fibres, special function fibres and aesthetically pleasing fibres. Within this latter group a description is provided of imitation silk products and what are known in Japan as “shin-gosen” fibres.

Analisis Representase Maskulinitas Dalam Iklan Kopi Luwak Sin Tae Yong

Numerical evidence for monopoles in 3-dimensional Yang-Mills theory

Recently Anishetty, Majumdar and Sharatchandra have proposed a way of characterizing topologically non-trivial configurations for 2+1 dimensional Yang-Mills theory in a local and manifestly gauge invariant manner. In this paper paper we develop criteria to locate such objects in lattice gauge theory and find them in numerical simulations.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures and 2 tables. Revtex. No changes in text. Regularized Renormalization Group Reduction of Symplectic Map

By means of the perturbative renormalization group method, we study a long-time behaviour of some symplectic discrete maps near elliptic and hyperbolic fixed points. It is shown that a naive renormalization group (RG) map breaks the symplectic symmetry and fails to describe a long-time behaviour. In order to preserve the symplectic symmetry, we present a regularization procedure, which gives a regularized symplectic RG map describing an approximate long-time behaviour succesfully

The clubhead swing plane in golf draw and fade shots

    Get PDF
It has become popular to characterise a golf shot in terms of a ‘swing plane’. However Coleman and Anderson (2007) showed that the motion of the whole club in the downswing could not be represented by a single plane in all players. Shin et al. (2008) found that the clubhead motion was consistently planar between the club being horizontal in the downswing and follow-through. Coleman and Anderson (2007) also suggested that the club plane might differ between draw and fade shots. The purpose of this study was to compare draw and fade shots, with a focus on the clubhead motion in the late downswing. The late downswing clubhead plane differs between a draw and a fade shot, even when differences in address angles are accounted for

Private and Public Information in Self-Fulfilling Currency Crises

This paper analyses the implications of information dissemination on currency crises in models with self-fulfilling expectations. Following Morris/Shin (1999, 2000), we introduce noisy private and public information, so that under certain conditions for the noise parameters a unique equilibrium is derived. Comparative statics then show that if the fundamental state of the economy is good, the probability of a currency crisis decreases in the precision of public information, but increases in the precision of private information. In case of bad fundamentals, however, more precise public information increases the likelihood of a crisis, whereas more precise private information leads to a lower crisis probability.currency crises, self-fulfilling expectations, private and public information, multiple equilibria

In another time and place: The Handmaiden as an adaptation

    Get PDF
This article considers the South Korean auteur director Park Chan-wook’s latest film The Handmaiden, which is the film adaptation of British writer Sarah Waters’s third novel Fingersmith. Transporting the story of love and deception from Victorian England to 1930s Korea under Japanese colonial rule, the film offers a compelling case of transnational or cross-cultural adaptation. In the process of cultural relocation, the film gives prominence to the ethnic identities and hierarchies in colonial Korea, and in recounting the unfolding lesbian love story between a petty-thief-disguised-as-maid and a noble lady, the film provides a spectacular, visual ‘translation’ of the novel’s approach to the story of same-sex desire. Despite all the changes the film makes to the original novel, the author Waters claims that the film is ‘faithful’ to her work. Taking her comments as a framework, the article explores the ways in which the film carries over the transgressive allure of the original story, while addressing the issues of history and identity in another time and place
