    Fermi-LAT Detection of a Break in the Gamma-Ray Spectrum of the Supernova Remnant Cassiopeia A

    We report on observations of the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A in the energy range from 100 MeV to 100 GeV using 44 months of observations from the Large Area Telescope on board the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope. We perform a detailed spectral analysis of this source and report on a low-energy break in the spectrum at 1.72−0.89+1.351.72^{+1.35}_{-0.89} GeV.     Continuous-time acquisition of biosignals using a charge-based ADC topology

    This paper investigates continuous-time (CT) signal acquisition as an activity-dependent and nonuniform sampling alternative to conventional fixed-rate digitisation. We demonstrate the applicability to biosignal representation by quantifying the achievable bandwidth saving by nonuniform quantisation to commonly recorded biological signal fragments allowing a compression ratio of ≈5 and 26 when applied to electrocardiogram and extracellular action potential signals, respectively. We describe several desirable properties of CT sampling, including bandwidth reduction, elimination/reduction of quantisation error, and describe its impact on aliasing. This is followed by demonstration of a resource-efficient hardware implementation. We propose a novel circuit topology for a charge-based CT analogue-to-digital converter that has been optimized for the acquisition of neural signals. This has been implemented in a commercially available 0.35 μm CMOS technology occupying a compact footprint of 0.12 mm 2 . Silicon verified measurements demonstrate an 8-bit resolution and a 4 kHz bandwidth with static power consumption of 3.75 μW from a 1.5 V supply.     UWB radar for non-contact heart rate variability monitoring and mental state classification.

    Heart rate variability (HRV), as measured by ultra-wideband (UWB) radar, enables contactless monitoring of physiological functioning in the human body. In the current study, we verified the reliability of HRV extraction from radar data, under limited transmitter power. In addition, we conducted a feasibility study of mental state classification from HRV data, measured using radar. Specifically, arctangent demodulation with calibration and low rank approximation have been used for radar signal pre-processing. An adaptive continuous wavelet filter and moving average filter were utilized for HRV extraction. For the mental state classification task, performance of support vector machine, k-nearest neighbors and random forest classifiers have been compared. The developed system has been validated on human participants, with 10 participants for HRV extraction, and three participants for the proof-of-concept mental state classification study. The results of HRV extraction demonstrate the reliability of time-domain parameter extraction from radar data. However, frequency-domain HRV parameters proved to be unreliable under low SNR. The best average overall mental state classification accuracy achieved was 82.34%, which has important implications for the feasibility of mental health monitoring using UWB radar

    Kopi merupakan tanaman tropis yang memiliki nilai ekonomi tinggi, namun rentan terhadap serangan hama dan penyakit, diantaranya jamur. Jamur dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bahkan menyebabkan kematian pada organ tanaman kopi. Penelitian tentang jamur yang terdapat pada tanaman kopi di Bandar Lampung belum banyak dilakukan, sehingga informasi tentang keanekaragamannya sangat terbatas. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui keanekaragaman jamur pada tanaman kopi di Bandar Lampung. Penelitian ini telah dilaksanakan di laboratorium Botani Jurusan Biologi FMIPA Universitas Lampung. Bagian tanaman kopi yang diduga terinfeksi oleh jamur diambil dari beberapa perkebunan kopi di Bandar Lampung. Dari penelitian ditemukan 19 jenis jamur pada tanaman kopi 18 jenis jamur diantaranya merupakan anggota kelas Deuteromycetes dan satu jenis jamur merupakan kelas Ascomycetes. Berdasarkan pada bagian tanaman yang terserang; 8 jenis jamur pada daun, 4 jenis jamur pada batang, 1 jenis jamur pada ranting, 2 jenis jamur pada akar dan 3 jenis jamur pada buah

    : Physical activity is one of the factors which can affect blood glucose level in human body. Vigorous physical activity for 20 minutes can lower one\u27s blood glucose level. Futsal is categorized as a vigorous activity. During the activity, body will use endogenous fuel from blood to take care of glucose levels homeostasis in it. This study aimed to determine the ratio of blood glucose levels before and after vigorous physical activity at the 2011 batch students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Sam Ratulangi using futsal. This was a pre and post experimental study. Respondents were 21 males aged 20-22 years. The results showed a decrease of all respondents\u27 blood glucose average from104.14 mg/dL before the physical activity to 95.40 mg/dL after it with p < 0.05 that meant there was a significant decrease in glucose level. Conclusion: In this study, there was a significant difference in blood glucose levels of the students between before and after vigorous physical activity

    Traditional medicine in modern era has not been completely abandoned. Now, Traditional medicine is being used again as a substitute for the use of chemical drugs. West Baturaja, Ogan Komering Ulu, located in South Sumatra is an area in Indonesia that still uses traditional medicine. This research is conducted to study the knowledge of Traditional Physician in using medicinal plants for treatment in West Baturaja, Ogan Komering Ulu, South Sumatra. This research was conducted in 5 villages in West Baturaja. We interviewed 8 Traditional Physician from 5 villages, i.e. Talang Jawa Village (4 people), Air Gading (1 people), Saung Naga (1 people), Batu Putih (1people), and Pusar village (1 people). The Result obtained that there are 140 types of medicinal plants from 60 families. The most widely used is the Zingiberaceae. The most widely used plant habitus is a bush. The most widely used part is the leaves. The way of processing is boiled then taken by the patient. The most commonly treated disease is diabetes

    We investigate a model that describes the evolution of a diploid sexual population in a changing environment. Individuals have discrete generations and are subject to selection on the phenotypic value of a quantitative trait, which is controlled by a finite number of bialleic loci. Environmental change is taken to lead to a uniformly changing optimal phenotypic value. The population continually adapts to the changing environment, by allelic substitution, at the loci controlling the trait. We investigate the detailed interrelation between the process of allelic substitution and the adaptation and variation of the population, via infinite population calculations and finite population simulations. We find a simple relation between the substitution rate and the rate of change of the optimal phenotypic value

    A Network of Neutral Current Spherical TPC's for Dedicated Supernova Detection

    The coherent contribution of all neutrons in neutrino nucleus scattering due to the neutral current offers a realistic prospect of detecting supernova neutrinos. As a matter of fact. for a typical supernova at 10 kpc, about 1000 events are expected usinga spherical gaseous detector of radius 4 m andemploying Xe gas at a pressure of 10 Atm.
