Abstract. In this study, an instrument assessing elementary education students’ attitudes towards asking questions in the classroom was developed. Items were determined based on interviews with students and teachers and scaled according to five-point Likert scale, “Never”, Rarely”, “Sometimes”, “Usually”, “Always”. Validity and reliability analyses of the instrument were conducted with two different study groups. Firstly, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were done with Study Groups 1 (203 fourth-grade students). Then, CFA was repeated with data obtained from Study Group 2 (334 fourth-grade students). According to EFA results, two constructs were determined and these constructs including 24 items were named as Openness towards asking question and Anxiety towards asking question. CFA goodness of fit indices obtained from both groups showed that the scale with two constructs was acceptable. Cronbach’s α reliability coefficients for each construct were respectively .78 and .80 for Study Group 1 and .76 and .77 for Study Group 2. As a result of analyses, reliability and validity of the developed instrument was ensured

Purpose of this study is to examine trends in preservice teacher education research in Turkey in terms of topic, purpose and method through thematic content analysis and to evaluate the trends in terms of teacher education policies. To this end, 479 articles related to preservice teacher education and published in three rooted journals since 1970 were examined. According to the results, nine themes were extracted and the most widely studied topics were identified as: subject and pedagogical knowledge and attitudes of teacher candidates, evaluation of teacher education program or its components, effects of instructional methods/approaches, information and communication technologies in teacher education and teacher education institutions. Quantitative paradigm is still dominant but an increase in qualitative and mixed studies has been observed since 2000. In terms of policies, problems expressed in the studies prior to 1997 were the issues leading to the 1997 restructuring reform. From this point of view, it can be inferred that these studies might have fed the 1997 reform. On the other hand, after 1997, the studies examined the results and effects of the 1997 restructuring and the 2006 revision reforms; for this reason, it is implied that the policies might have given direction to the studies conducted in this period of time.Çalışmanın amacı, geçmişten günümüze Türkiye’deki hizmet öncesi öğretmen eğitimi araştırmalarındaki eğilimi, konu, amaç ve yöntem açısından tematik içerik analizi ile incelemek ve ülkemizdeki öğretmen eğitimi politikaları açısından değerlendirmektir.

This study was planned to determine the effects of ethanol extract of propolis on the fermentation quality, fatty acid profile, aerobic stability, and in vitro digestibility of alfalfa silages. The ethanol extract of propolis was added to alfalfa at levels of 1000 mg/kg (PROP1), 2000 mg/kg (PROP2), and 3000 mg/kg (PROP3); propolis was not added to the control (CON) group. After the propolis was added, the pH value of the alfalfa silage declined, and the crude protein content was effectively preserved (p < 0.05). Adding propolis to alfalfa silages caused crude fiber, neutral detergent fiber, and acid detergent fiber (p < 0.05) to decrease. The ethanol extract of propolis significantly improved the lactic acid content and reduced the NH3-N content (p < 0.05). Propolis significantly improved the unsaturated fatty acid content (p < 0.05) and reduced the saturated fatty acid content (p < 0.05). In addition, propolis significantly improved the relative feed value, the digestibility of the organic matter, and the in vitro metabolic energy content (p < 0.05). These results show that the ethanol extract of propolis improves the silage quality of last cutting alfalfa silages, and has potential as an antimicrobial silage additive

This purpose of this study is to investigate how the course designed based on constructivist principles has been implemented, what actions have been taken to solve problems and what thoughts have arisen in the minds of teacher candidates with regard to the constructivist learning approach. In this study, an action research was employed which emanated from qualitative research designs. The participants in this study consisted of 55 science teacher candidates from the fields of biology, physics and chemistry for secondary education enrolled on the Teacher Training Certificate Program at one of large state university in Turkey. So as to collect necessary data for the study, reflection notes written by the teacher candidates, their products and a questionnaire to elicit opinions were used. The data obtained were then analyzed by using descriptive and content analysis methods. The acquired results demonstrated that on account of teacher candidates’ increased exposure to the constructivist learning environment, their knowledge and professional skills increased over time. The teacher candidates outlined in their reflections on the process that becoming better acquainted with the approach did indeed make valuable contributions to their cognitive, academic and affective development. However, they indicated that factors such as inadequate provision of equipment in classrooms, oversized classes, individual differences in academic abilities of students and the centralized examination system prevented the successful implementation of this approach in the schools

It has been defined that coeliac disease is associated with most of the autoimmune diseases including psoriasis and vitiligo. Here, a 26-year-old woman who was diagnosed palmoplantar pustular psoriasis and already had coeliac disease and vitiligo is reported. According to our opinions, this is the first report describing the development of these three disorders in one patient, even though vitiligo, psoriasis and coeliac disease are common disorders, and the coexistence of the two of them has been previously reported in the literature. This case has been presented to emphasize the importance of considering and inquiring the possible coeliac disease in chronic and autoimmune dermatoses, although psoriasis and vitiligo may have coincidental associations with coeliac disease

    Get PDF
Simple Summary In the present study, the effect of feeding with pollen sources with different protein content on colony performance, wintering ability and in-vitro longevity of colonies that weakened after feeding with pine honey in autumn or that needed to enter the winter period were investigated. The experiment was carried out in 48 colonies divided into six groups as follows: control, syrup, mixed pollen, Cistus creticus pollen (Pink rock-rose), Papaver somniferum pollen (Opium poppy), and commercial bee cake group. The effect of nutritional differences on survival was found to be statistically significant in vitro and this supports the colony results in the natural environment. As a result, P. somniferum pollen is a good preference to be used in feeding colonies in beekeeping, due to its rich nutritional content. Honey bees need pollen and nectar sources to survive in nature. Particularly, having young bees in colonies is vital before wintering, and proper feeding is necessary to achieve this. In the present study, the effect of feeding with pollen sources of different protein content on colony performance, wintering ability and in-vitro longevity of colonies that weakened after feeding with pine honey in autumn, or that needed to enter the winter period, was investigated. The experiment was carried out in 48 colonies divided into six groups as follows: control, syrup, mixed pollen, Cistus creticus pollen (Pink rock-rose), Papaver somniferum pollen (Opium poppy), and commercial bee cake groups. In particular, the P. somniferum pollen group was different (p < 0.01) from the other experiment groups with the number of bee frames (3.44), the area with brood (1184.14 cm(2)) and the wintering ability of 92.19%. The effect of nutritional differences on survival was found to be statistically significant in vitro and this supports the colony results in the natural environment (p < 0.001). The P. somniferum group has the longest longevity with 23 days. Pollen preferences of honey bees were P. somniferum, C. creticus, and mixed pollen, respectively.Pollen Preferences of Honey bees [TAGEM/HAYSUD/B/20/A4/P5/1890]; Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies (TAGEM)This article was produced from the project The Pollen Preferences of Honey bees and the Effects of Pollen Use inWinter on Colony Dynamic (TAGEM/HAYSUD/B/20/A4/P5/1890) supported by The Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies (TAGEM)
