Wave transport in one-dimensional disordered systems with finite-width potential steps

An amazingly simple model of correlated disorder is a one-dimensional chain of n potential steps with a fixed width lc and random heights. A theoretical analysis of the average transmission coefficient and Landauer resistance as functions of n and klc predicts two distinct regimes of behavior, one marked by extreme sensitivity and the other associated with exponential behavior of the resistance. The sensitivity arises in n and klc for klc approximately pi, where the system is nearly transparent. Numerical simulations match the predictions well, and they suggest a strong motivation for experimental study.Comment: A6 pages. 5 figures. Accepted in EP

Efecto de diferentes sustratos en la aclimatación y costos de plantas micropropagadas de caña flecha (Gynerium sagitatum Aubl)

To reduce costs associated to ex vitro adaptation of arrow cane (Gynerium sagitatum Aubl.) plants Cv “Criolla”, the effect of three substrate mixes (Peat, peat + river sand and peat + rice husk) on survival, plant height and substrate associated plant cost were evaluated. Plants were micropropagated in semisolid MS medium supplied with 0,5 mg L-1 BAP. After medium removal, plants were transferred on 72-plug plastic trays filled with the respective substrate treatment. Trays were covered with translucent plastic covers during three days. Thereafter, plants were maintained in a 50% light shade house, fog irrigated twice a day for 1 minute each during 8 weeks. Treatments were distributed with a block randomized design. Data were analyzed with ANOVA and means were separated with Tukey´s mean separation test. Results allowed to evidence that peat + sand resulted in significant increase in survival, plant height and >35 decrease in substrate associated plant cost during adaptation to ex vitro conditions.Con el fin de reducir los costos de adaptación ex vitro de plantas micropropagadas de caña flecha (Gynerium sagitatum Aubl.) cultivar “Criolla”, el efecto de tres sustratos (Turba, turba + arena y turba + cascarilla de arroz) sobre la supervivencia, el crecimiento y el costo de las plantas asociado al sustrato fueron evaluados. Las plantas fueron micropropagadas en medio MS semisólido adicionado con 0,5 mg L-1 de BAP. Después de remover el medio de cultivo, las plantas fueron transferidas en bandejas plásticas de 72 alveolos dispensadas con la mezcla de sustrato respectiva. Las bandejas fueron cubiertas con tapas plásticas transparentes durante 3 días. Las plantas fueron mantenidas en una casa malla con polisombra del 50% de luminosidad y dos riegos diarios de 1 minuto cada uno por nebulización durante 8 semanas. El diseño utilizado fue el de bloques al azar, los datos fueron analizados con ANOVA y los promedios separados con la prueba de separación de medias de Tukey. Los resultados permitieron evidenciar que la mezcla de sustrato formada por turba + arena resultó en incrementos significativos en el porcentaje de supervivencia, altura de planta  y redujo en >35% el costo final de las plantas asociado al uso de sustrato durante la adaptación a las condiciones ex vitro

Algunas reflexiones en torno al concepto de Modalidad

The analysis presented in this paper starts with theoretical notions that some language researchers have offered on the analysis and the concept of discourse. Following this, the theoretical context as to some of the theories is exposed and, specially, the theory of enunciation, upon which the analysis of discourse has been based, and where a systematic use of the notion of modality is found. Finally, a working hypothesis is developed, which consists of theoretically defining the concept of modality and, more pragmatically, in using of some texts and some specific examples from diverse areas of knowledge, to locate and analyze the linguistic vestiges that determined modality in said texts.El análisis que se realiza en este artículo se inicia con algunas nociones teóricas que sobre el análisis del discurso y sobre el concepto de discurso han realizado algunos investigadores del lenguaje. Seguidamente, se expone el contexto teórico sobre algunas teorías y, en especial, la teoría de la enunciación,teoría sobre la que se ha fundamentado el análisis del discurso, y en donde se encuentra un empleo sistemático de la noción de modalidad. Luego se desarrolla la hipótesis de trabajo, que consiste en delimitar teóricamente, el concepto de modalidad y, más pragmá- ticamente, con la utilización de algunos textos y de algunos ejemplos específicos de diversas áreas del conocimiento, localizar y analizar las huellas lingüísticas que imprime la modalidad en dichos texto

A useful form of the recurrence relation between relativistic atomic matrix elements of radial powers

Recently obtained recurrence formulae for relativistic hydrogenic radial matrix elements are cast in a simpler and perhaps more useful form. This is achieved with the help of a new relation between the $r^a$ and the $\beta r^b$ terms ($\beta$ is a $4\times 4$ Dirac matrix and $a, b$ are constants) in the atomic matrix elements.Comment: 7 pages, no figure
