A New Exponential Gravity
We propose a new exponential f(R) gravity model with f(R)=(R-\lambda
c)e^{\lambda(c/R)^n} and n>3, \lambda\geq 1, c>0 to explain late-time
acceleration of the universe. At the high curvature region, the model behaves
like the \LambdaCDM model. In the asymptotic future, it reaches a stable
de-Sitter spacetime. It is a cosmologically viable model and can evade the
local gravity constraints easily. This model share many features with other
f(R) dark energy models like Hu-Sawicki model and Exponential gravity model. In
it the dark energy equation of state is of an oscillating form and can cross
phantom divide line \omega_{de}=-1. In particular, in the parameter range 3<
n\leq 4, \lambda \sim 1, the model is most distinguishable from other models.
For instance, when n=4, \lambda=1, the dark energy equation of state will cross
-1 in the earlier future and has a stronger oscillating form than the other
models, the dark energy density in asymptotical future is smaller than the one
in the high curvature region. This new model can evade the local gravity tests
easily when n>3 and \lambda>1.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figure
A new dromaeosaurid (Dinosauria: Theropoda) from the Upper Cretaceous Wulansuhai Formation of Inner Mongolia, China
We describe a new dromaeosaurid theropod from the Upper Cretaceous Wulansuhai Formation of Bayan Mandahu, Inner
Mongolia. The new taxon, Linheraptor exquisitus gen. et sp. nov., is based on an exceptionally well-preserved, nearly
complete skeleton. This specimen represents the fifth dromaeosaurid taxon recovered from the Upper Cretaceous
Djadokhta Formation and its laterally equivalent strata, which include the Wulansuhai Formation, and adds to the known
diversity of Late Cretaceous dromaeosaurids. Linheraptor exquisitus closely resembles the recently reported Tsaagan
mangas. Uniquely among dromaeosaurids, the two taxa share a large, anteriorly located maxillary fenestra and a contact
between the jugal and the squamosal that excludes the postorbital from the infratemporal fenestra. These features suggest
a sister-taxon relationship between L. exquisitus and T. mangas, which indicates the presence of a unique dromaeosaurid
lineage in the Late Cretaceous of Asia. A number of cranial and dental features seen in L. exquisitus and T. mangas, and
particularly some postcranial features of L. exquisitus, suggest that these two taxa are probably intermediate in
systematic position between known basal and derived dromaeosaurids. The discovery of Linheraptor exquisitus is thus
important for understanding the evolution of some salient features seen in the derived dromaeosaurids
Bound state solutions of the Dirac-Rosen-Morse potential with spin and pseudospin symmetry
The energy spectra and the corresponding two- component spinor wavefunctions
of the Dirac equation for the Rosen-Morse potential with spin and pseudospin
symmetry are obtained. The wave ( state) solutions for this
problem are obtained by using the basic concept of the supersymmetric quantum
mechanics approach and function analysis (standard approach) in the
calculations. Under the spin symmetry and pseudospin symmetry, the energy
equation and the corresponding two-component spinor wavefunctions for this
potential and other special types of this potential are obtained. Extension of
this result to state is suggested.Comment: 18 page
Temperature dependence of current self-oscillations and electric field domains in sequential tunneling doped superlattices
We examine how the current--voltage characteristics of a doped weakly coupled
superlattice depends on temperature. The drift velocity of a discrete drift
model of sequential tunneling in a doped GaAs/AlAs superlattice is calculated
as a function of temperature. Numerical simulations and theoretical arguments
show that increasing temperature favors the appearance of current
self-oscillations at the expense of static electric field domain formation. Our
findings agree with available experimental evidence.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figure
The development of pharyngeal taste buds in Hucho taimen (Pallas, 1773) larvae
This study aims to investigate the relationship between the development of pharyngeal taste buds (TBs) and first feeding of Hucho taimen. Larvae were fed with live food (water flea and tubifex) for 8 weeks. TBs of larval pharynx were histologically examined using light microscopy during the rearing experiment. The results showed that the first few TBs primordia were visible within the pharynx 27 days after hatch (DAH), which coincides with the onset of feeding, and the first few TBs with open receptor areas appear 45 DAH. TBs of pharynx were well developed 76 DAH. The number and size of TBs were quantified during larval development. The average number of pharynx was 8.63±1.15, 11.29±0.50, 14.50±1.06, and 17.78±0.47 TBs at 27, 36, 45, and 76 DAH, respectively. The number of TBs increased in both the upper and lower pharynx. The ratio of height to width of TBs showed an increase tendency, ranging from 0.81 to 1.11. The height of TBs showed an increase tendency after 29 DAH during the development. However, the width of TBs exhibited a low at 35 DAH. In conclusion, the development of pharyngeal TBs coincides with the first feeding, and this should lead to a better understanding of improvement of larval rearing in H. taimen hatcheries
Pre-M Phase-promoting Factor Associates with Annulate Lamellae in Xenopus Oocytes and Egg Extracts
We have used complementary biochemical and in vivo approaches to study the compartmentalization of M phase-promoting factor (MPF) in prophase Xenopus eggs and oocytes. We first examined the distribution of MPF (Cdc2/CyclinB2) and membranous organelles in high-speed extracts of Xenopus eggs made during mitotic prophase. These extracts were found to lack mitochondria, Golgi membranes, and most endoplasmic reticulum (ER) but to contain the bulk of the pre-MPF pool. This pre-MPF could be pelleted by further centrifugation along with components necessary to activate it. On activation, Cdc2/CyclinB2 moved into the soluble fraction. Electron microscopy and Western blot analysis showed that the pre-MPF pellet contained a specific ER subdomain comprising "annulate lamellae" (AL): stacked ER membranes highly enriched in nuclear pores. Colocalization of pre-MPF with AL was demonstrated by anti-CyclinB2 immunofluorescence in prophase oocytes, in which AL are positioned close to the vegetal surface. Green fluorescent protein-CyclinB2 expressed in oocytes also localized at AL. These data suggest that inactive MPF associates with nuclear envelope components just before activation. This association may explain why nuclei and centrosomes stimulate MPF activation and provide a mechanism for targeting of MPF to some of its key substrates
Size-resolved and bulk activation properties of aerosols in the North China Plain
Size-resolved and bulk activation properties of aerosols were measured at a regional/suburban site in the North China Plain (NCP), which is occasionally heavily polluted by anthropogenic aerosol particles and gases. A Cloud Condensation Nuclei (CCN) closure study is conducted with bulk CCN number concentration (NCCN) and calculated CCN number concentration based on the aerosol number size distribution and size-resolved activation properties.
The observed CCN number concentration (NCCN-obs) are higher than those observed in other locations than China, with average NCCN-obs of roughly 2000, 3000, 6000, 10 000 and 13 000 cm−3 at supersaturations of 0.056, 0.083, 0.17, 0.35 and 0.70%, respectively. An inferred critical dry diameter (Dm) is calculated based on the NCCN-obs and aerosol number size distribution assuming homogeneous chemical composition. The inferred cut-off diameters are in the ranges of 190–280, 160–260, 95–180, 65–120 and 50–100 nm at supersaturations of 0.056, 0.083, 0.17, 0.35 and 0.7%, with their mean values 230.1, 198.4, 128.4, 86.4 and 69.2 nm, respectively.
Size-resolved activation measurements show that most of the 300 nm particles are activated at the investigated supersaturations, while almost no particles of 30 nm are activated even at the highest supersaturation of 0.72%. The activation ratio increases with increasing supersaturation and particle size. The slopes of the activation curves for ambient aerosols are not as steep as those observed in calibrations with ammonium sulfate suggesting that the observed aerosols is an external mixture of more hygroscopic and hydrophobic particles.
The calculated CCN number concentrations (NCCN-calc) based on the size-resolved activation ratio and aerosol number size distribution correlate well with the NCCN-obs, and show an average overestimation of 19%. Sensitivity studies of the CCN closure show that the NCCN at each supersaturation is well predicted with the campaign average of size-resolved activation curves. These results indicate that the aerosol number size distribution is critical in the prediction of possible CCN. The CCN number concentration can be reliably estimated using time-averaged, size-resolved activation efficiencies without accounting for the temporal variations
Search for varying constants of nature from astronomical observation of molecules
The status of searches for possible variation in the constants of nature from
astronomical observation of molecules is reviewed, focusing on the
dimensionless constant representing the proton-electron mass ratio
. The optical detection of H and CO molecules with large
ground-based telescopes (as the ESO-VLT and the Keck telescopes), as well as
the detection of H with the Cosmic Origins Spectrograph aboard the Hubble
Space Telescope is discussed in the context of varying constants, and in
connection to different theoretical scenarios. Radio astronomy provides an
alternative search strategy bearing the advantage that molecules as NH
(ammonia) and CHOH (methanol) can be used, which are much more sensitive to
a varying than diatomic molecules. Current constraints are
for redshift , corresponding to
look-back times of 10-12.5 Gyrs, and for
, corresponding to half the age of the Universe (both at 3
statistical significance). Existing bottlenecks and prospects for future

Study of the decay asymmetry parameter and CP violation parameter in the Lambdac+ --> Lambda pi+ decay
Using data from the FOCUS (E831) experiment at Fermilab, we present a new
measurement of the weak decay-asymmetry parameter alpha(Lambdac) in Lambdac -->
Lambda pi decay. Comparing particle with antiparticle decays, we obtain the
first measurement of the CP violation parameter : A =
[alpha(Lambdac)+alpha(antiLambda_c)]/[alpha(Lambdac)-alpha(antiLambda_c)]. We
obtain alpha(Lambdac)=-0.78+-0.16+-0.13 and A = -0.07+-0.19+-0.12 where errors
