The Heihaibei gold deposit is a newly discovered gold deposit in the southern part of the Eastern Kunlun Orogenic Belt. Its most distinctive features are that the gold mineralization is hosted in monzogranite, and that the presence of pre-ore (possibly syn-ore) monzogranite and post-ore gabbro allows to constrain the minerali-zation's formation age. Zircons from the monzogranites yield U-Pb ages of 454 +/- 3 Ma, while zircons separated from the gabbro dikes cutting the monzogranites and gold mineralized body yield U-Pb ages of 439 +/- 3 Ma, which is interpreted to be the minimum age of the Au mineralizing event. Combined with the regional geological background, we proposed that the Heihaibei Au mineralization occurred during the subduction stage of the Early Paleozoic Proto-Tethys ocean. The ore assemblage is dominated by pyrite, arsenopyrite and native gold. The hydrothermal alteration that has led to the peculiar enrichment of Au is not systematically distributed and displays no clear concentric zoning pattern. The main mineralization formed during three stages: the K-feldspar-quartz-pyrite (Py1)-arsenopyrite-sericite-epidote stage (I), the quartz-pyrite (Py2)-native gold-chlorite stage (II), and the quartz-carbonate stage (III). The main gold mineralization occurred during stage II. Fluid inclusion homogenization temperature and salinities decrease from stage I (Th., 268-412 C; W., 6.87-16.63 wt% NaCl equiv.) to stage II (Th., 183-288 C; W., 3.69-14.84 wt% NaCl equiv.). The 818O and 8D values (818OH2O = 4.9 to 9.7%o; 8DV-SMOW =-84.1%o to -81.1%o) of quartz samples from stage I and stage II are comparable to a magmatic-hydrothermal ore-forming fluid that possibly underwent fluid-rock interaction with the Nachitai Group metamorphic rocks during the early ore-forming stage. The relatively uniform 834S values (834SV-CDT = 7.7 to 8.5%o) are slightly elevated compared to magmatic 834S values, but could be derived from a magma if a significant crustal melt component is present. Moreover, the 834S values are within the S isotopic composition range of a granitic reservoir, suggesting that they are probably inherited from the Heihaibei monzogranites. The Pb and Hf isotope compositions imply a close genetic association between the gold mineralization and granitic magmatism, which are both the products of the mixing of crustal and mantle sources. The trace element compositions of pyrite provide additional evidence that the gold mineralization in the Heihaibei deposit was related to the magmatism. Compared with the typical characteristics of orogenic gold and intrusion-related gold systems (IRGS) deposits, the Heihaibei gold deposit may instead be classified as a granitic intrusion-related gold deposit.Peer reviewe

Orthogonal Discriminant Diversity and Similarity Preserving Projection for Face Recognition

    No full text
Feature extraction is a crucial step for face recognition. In this paper, based on supervised local structure and diversity projection (SLSDP), a new feature extraction method called orthogonal discriminant diversity and similarity preserving projection (ODDSPP) is proposed for face recognition. ODDSPP defines two parameterless weighted matrices by taking into account the class label information and local structure. Thus ODDSPP could utilize both the diversity and similarity information of the data simultaneously for dimensionality reduction. Moreover, the proposed algorithm is able to extract the orthogonal discriminant vectors in the feature space and does not suffer from the small sample size problem, which is desirable for many pattern analysis applications. Experimental results on the ORL and AR databases show the effectiveness of the proposed method

VO2, as a promising material for smart windows, has attracted much attention, and researchers have been continuously striving to optimize the performance of VO2-based materials. Herein, nitrogen-incorporated VO2 (M1) thin films, using a polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)-assisted sol–gel method followed by heat treatment in NH3 atmosphere, were synthesized, which exhibited a good solar modulation efficiency (ΔTsol) of 4.99% and modulation efficiency of 37.6% at 2000 nm (ΔT2000 nm), while their visible integrated transmittance (Tlum) ranged from 52.19% to 56.79% after the phase transition. The crystallization, microstructure, and thickness of the film could be regulated by varying PVP concentrations. XPS results showed that, in addition to the NH3 atmosphere-N doped into VO2 lattice, the pyrrolidone-N introduced N-containing groups with N–N, N–O, or N–H bonds into the vicinity of the surface or void of the film in the form of molecular adsorption or atom (N, O, and H) filling. According to the Tauc plot, the estimated bandgap of N-incorporated VO2 thin films related to metal-to-insulator transition (Eg1) was 0.16–0.26 eV, while that associated with the visible transparency (Eg2) was 1.31–1.45 eV. The calculated Eg1 and Eg2 from the first-principles theory were 0.1–0.5 eV and 1.4–1.6 eV, respectively. The Tauc plot estimation and theoretical calculations suggested that the combined effect of N-doping and N-adsorption with the extra atom (H, N, and O) decreased the critical temperature (τc) due to the reduction in Eg1

In this work, hole transport layer (HTL) free bulk heterojunction organic solar cells (BHJ-OSCs) based on PTB7:PCBM as active layer have been fabricated by employing various ITO anodes with different work function. The power conversion efficiency of the BHJ-OSCs is significantly improved from 3.76 to 8.47% with increasing the work function of the ITO anode. By combining Mott–Schottky curves, external quantum efficiency and reflectance spectra of the BHJ-OSCs, we identify that the improved optoelectronic conversion due to the enhanced built-in electric field within the active layer which is induced by the high work function ITO anodes. The hole transport layer free device structure can be considered for the fabrication of cost-effective BHJ-OSCs due to their simple structure and high efficiency

Acetylcholine ameliorates endoplasmic reticulum stress in endothelial cells after hypoxia/reoxygenation via M3 AChR-AMPK signaling

<p>Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress is associated with various cardiovascular diseases. However, its pathophysiological relevance and the underlying mechanisms in the context of hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) in endothelial cells are not fully understood. Previous findings have suggested that acetylcholine (ACh), the major vagal nerve neurotransmitter, protected against cardiomyocyte injury by activating AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). This study investigated the role of ER stress in endothelial cells during H/R and explored the beneficial effects of ACh. Our results showed that H/R triggered ER stress and apoptosis in endothelial cells, evidenced by the elevation of glucose-regulated protein 78, cleaved caspase-12 and C/EBP homologous protein expression. ACh significantly decreased ER stress and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling positive cells and restored ER ultrastructural changes induced by H/R, possibly via protein kinase-like ER kinase and inositol-requiring kinase 1 pathways. Additionally, 4-diphenylacetoxy-N-methylpiperidine methiodide, a type-3 muscarinic ACh receptor (M3 AChR) inhibitor, abolished ACh-mediated increase in AMPK phosphorylation during H/R. Furthermore, M3 AChR or AMPK siRNA abrogated the ACh-elicited the attenuation of ER stress in endothelial cells, indicating that the salutary effects of ACh were likely mediated by M3 AChR-AMPK signaling. Overall, ACh activated AMPK through M3 AChR, thereby inhibited H/R-induced ER stress and apoptosis in endothelial cells. We have suggested for the first time that AMPK may function as an essential intermediate step between M3 AChR stimulation and inhibition of ER stress-associated apoptotic pathway during H/R, which may help to develop novel therapeutic approaches targeting ER stress to prevent or alleviate ischemia/reperfusion injury.</p

Effects of Biochar on the Fluorescence Spectra of Water-Soluble Organic Matter in Black Soil Profile after Application for Six Years

At present, extracting water-soluble organic matter (WSOM) from agricultural organic waste is primarily used to evaluate soil organic matter content in farmland. However, only a few studies have focused on its vertical behavior in the soil profile. This study aims to clarify the three-dimensional fluorescence spectrum characteristics of the WSOM samples in 0–60 cm black soil profile before and after different chemical fertilizer treatments after six years of fertilization. Fluorescence spectroscopy combined with fluorescence and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopies are used to divide four different fertilization types: no fertilization (T0), nitrogen phosphorus potassium (NPK) (T1), biochar (T2), biochar + NPK (T3), and biochar + N (T4) in a typical black soil area. The vertical characteristics of WSOC are also analyzed. The results showed that after six years of nitrogen application, T2 had a significant effect on the fluorescence intensity of Zone II (decreasing by 9.6% in the 0–20 cm soil layer) and Zone V (increasing by 8.5% in the 0–20 cm soil layer). The fluorescent components identified in each treatment group include ultraviolet radiation A humic acid-like substances (C1), ultraviolet radiation C humic acid-like substances (C2), and tryptophan-like substance (C3). As compared with the land with T1, the content of C2 in the 20–60 cm soil layer with T2 was lower, while that of C2 in the surface and subsoil with T3 was higher. In addiiton, there were no significant differences in the contents of C1, C2, and C3 by comparing the soils applied with T3 and T4, respectively. The composition of soil WSOM was found to be significantly influenced by the addition of a mixture of biochar and chemical fertilizers. The addition of biochar alone exerted a positive effect on the humification process in the surface soil (0–10 cm). NPK treatment could stimulate biological activity by increasing biological index values in deeper soil layers (40–50 cm). Nitrogen is the sovereign factor that improves the synergism effect of chemical fertilizer and biochar during the humification process. According to the UV-Vis spectrum and optical index, soil WSOM originates from land and microorganisms. This study reveals the dynamics of WSOC in the 0–60 cm soil layer and the biogeochemical effect of BC fertilizer treatment on the agricultural soil ecosystem
