Apparent negative motion of vortex matter due to inhomogeneous pinning
We investigate the transport of vortices in superconductors with inhomgeneous pinning under a driving force. The inhomogeneity of pinning is simplified as strong-weak pinning regions. It is demonstrated that the interactions between the vortices captured by strong pinning potentials and the vortices in the weak pinning region cause absolute negative motion (ANM) of vortices: The vortices which are climbing toward the high barriers induced by the strong pinning with the help of driving force move toward the opposite direction of the force and back to their equilibrium positions in the weak pinning region as the force decreases or is withdrawn. Our simulations reveal that the hysteresis of ANM is determined by the competition between the speed of the negative motion which depends on the piining inhomogeneity in superconductors and the speed of the driving force. Under the conditions of either larger force scanning rate or higher pinning inhomogeneity, a marked ANM and a larger hysteretic speed-force loop could be observed. This indicates that the time window to observe the ANM should be chosen properly. Moreover, the V-1 characteristics of Ag-sheathed Bi=2223 tapes are measured, and experimental observations are qualitatively in agreement with the simulation
Universal quantum gates based on a pair of orthogonal cyclic states: Application to NMR systems
We propose an experimentally feasible scheme to achieve quantum computation
based on a pair of orthogonal cyclic states. In this scheme, quantum gates can
be implemented based on the total phase accumulated in cyclic evolutions. In
particular, geometric quantum computation may be achieved by eliminating the
dynamic phase accumulated in the whole evolution. Therefore, both dynamic and
geometric operations for quantum computation are workable in the present
theory. Physical implementation of this set of gates is designed for NMR
systems. Also interestingly, we show that a set of universal geometric quantum
gates in NMR systems may be realized in one cycle by simply choosing specific
parameters of the external rotating magnetic fields. In addition, we
demonstrate explicitly a multiloop method to remove the dynamic phase in
geometric quantum gates. Our results may provide useful information for the
experimental implementation of quantum logical gates.Comment: 9 pages, language revised, the publication versio
Quantum information processing using Josephson junctions coupled through cavities
Josephson junctions have been shown to be a promising solid-state system for
implementation of quantum computation. The significant two-qubit gates are
generally realized by the capacitive coupling between the nearest neighbour
qubits. We propose an effective Hamiltonian to describe charge qubits coupled
through the cavity. We find that nontrivial two-qubit gates may be achieved by
this coupling. The ability to interconvert localized charge qubits and flying
qubits in the proposed scheme implies that quantum network can be constructed
using this large scalable solid-state system.Comment: 5 pages, to appear in Phys Rev A; typos corrected, solutions in last

BESII Detector Simulation
A Monte Carlo program based on Geant3 has been developed for BESII detector
simulation. The organization of the program is outlined, and the digitization
procedure for simulating the response of various sub-detectors is described.
Comparisons with data show that the performance of the program is generally
satisfactory.Comment: 17 pages, 14 figures, uses elsart.cls, to be submitted to NIM
Measurements of J/psi Decays into 2(pi+pi-)eta and 3(pi+pi-)eta
Based on a sample of 5.8X 10^7 J/psi events taken with the BESII detector,
the branching fractions of J/psi--> 2(pi+pi-)eta and J/psi-->3(pi+pi-)eta are
measured for the first time to be (2.26+-0.08+-0.27)X10^{-3} and
(7.24+-0.96+-1.11)X10^{-4}, respectively.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure
The ARGO-YBJ Experiment Progresses and Future Extension
Gamma ray source detection above 30TeV is an encouraging approach for finding
galactic cosmic ray origins. All sky survey for gamma ray sources using wide
field of view detector is essential for population accumulation for various
types of sources above 100GeV. To target the goals, the ARGO-YBJ experiment has
been established. Significant progresses have been made in the experiment. A
large air shower detector array in an area of 1km2 is proposed to boost the
sensitivity. Hybrid detection with multi-techniques will allow a good
discrimination between different types of primary particles, including photons
and protons, thus enable an energy spectrum measurement for individual specie.
Fluorescence light detector array will extend the spectrum measurement above
100PeV where the second knee is located. An energy scale determined by balloon
experiments at 10TeV will be propagated to ultra high energy cosmic ray
experiments

Direct Measurement of the Pseudoscalar Decay Constant fD+
The absolute branching fraction of has been directly
measured by an analysis of a data sample of about 33 collected
around GeV with the BES-II at the BEPC. At these energies,
meson is produced in pair as . A total of mesons are reconstructed from this data set. In the
recoil side of the tagged mesons, purely leptonic decay
events of are observed. This yields a branching fraction of
, and a
corresponding pseudoscalar decay constant
MeV.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figures, Submitted to Physics Letters B in October, 200
Search for the Lepton Flavor Violation Processes and
The lepton flavor violation processes and are
searched for using a sample of 5.8 events collected with
the BESII detector. Zero and one candidate events, consistent with the
estimated background, are observed in and
decays, respectively. Upper limits on the branching ratios are determined to be
and at the 90% confidence level (C.L.).Comment: 9 pages, 2 figure
