Study of Aging and Production of Wine from Grape Fruit by Fermentation Process
Fermentation biotechnology is an important industrial process for the production of alcoholic beverages including wine. However, aging of wine is always an important issue during production. In present study a attempt has made to produce wine by fermentation process along with the assesment of aging of wine. In this experiment Grape fruit (jufeng) was used as a raw material and fermentation process was carried out with yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) at 28 degrees C. During experiment growth of yeast cell, total solid contents and degree of liquor alcohol was considered critically. The various alcoholic compounds were analyzed with selective method of gas chromatography. Results obtained in the present study indicates that volume of all compounds like ethyl acetate, propyl alcohol, isobutyl alcohol, isoamyl acetate, isoamyl alcohol and ethyl formate was increased with the function of time during fermentation. While during aging process the contents of methyl acetate, ethyl acetate, isoamyl acetate and ethyl lactate were increased but isoamyl alcohol decreased. The levels of propyl alcohol and isobutyl alcohol fell after short period of time. However, no significant effects of aging process on methyl acetate, ethyl acetate, isobutyl alcohol, isoamyl alcohol and ethyl lactate (p\u3e0.05) were observed. Whereas significant effects of aging on the propyl alcohol and isoamyl acetate (p\u3c0.05) were observed
Transverse Spin Structure of the Nucleon through Target Single Spin Asymmetry in Semi-Inclusive Deep-Inelastic Reaction at Jefferson Lab
Jefferson Lab (JLab) 12 GeV energy upgrade provides a golden opportunity to
perform precision studies of the transverse spin and
transverse-momentum-dependent structure in the valence quark region for both
the proton and the neutron. In this paper, we focus our discussion on a
recently approved experiment on the neutron as an example of the precision
studies planned at JLab. The new experiment will perform precision measurements
of target Single Spin Asymmetries (SSA) from semi-inclusive electro-production
of charged pions from a 40-cm long transversely polarized He target in
Deep-Inelastic-Scattering kinematics using 11 and 8.8 GeV electron beams. This
new coincidence experiment in Hall A will employ a newly proposed solenoid
spectrometer (SoLID). The large acceptance spectrometer and the high polarized
luminosity will provide precise 4-D (, , and ) data on the
Collins, Sivers, and pretzelocity asymmetries for the neutron through the
azimuthal angular dependence. The full 2 azimuthal angular coverage in the
lab is essential in controlling the systematic uncertainties. The results from
this experiment, when combined with the proton Collins asymmetry measurement
and the Collins fragmentation function determined from the ee collision
data, will allow for a quark flavor separation in order to achieve a
determination of the tensor charge of the d quark to a 10% accuracy. The
extracted Sivers and pretzelocity asymmetries will provide important
information to understand the correlations between the quark orbital angular
momentum and the nucleon spin and between the quark spin and nucleon spin.Comment: 23 pages, 13 figures, minor corrections, matches published versio
Pathway for the production of neutron-rich isotopes around the N=126 shell closure
Absolute cross sections for isotopically identified products formed in multinucleon transfer in the Xe136+Pt198 system at ∼8MeV/nucleon are reported. The isotopic distributions obtained using a large acceptance spectrometer demonstrated the production of the "hard-to-reach" neutron-rich isotopes for Z<78 around the N=126 shell closure far from stability. The main contribution to the formation of these exotic nuclei is shown to arise in collisions with a small kinetic energy dissipation. The present experimental finding corroborates for the first time recent predictions that multinucleon transfer reactions would be the optimum method to populate and characterize neutron-rich isotopes around N=126 which are crucial for understanding both astrophysically relevant processes and the evolution of "magic" numbers far from stability
Evidence-based guidelines for managing patients with primary ER+ HER2− breast cancer deferred from surgery due to the COVID-19 pandemic
The gut microbiota, bile acids and their correlation in primary sclerosing cholangitis associated with inflammatory bowel disease.
BACKGROUND:
Patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis associated with inflammatory bowel disease (PSC-IBD) have a very high risk of developing colorectal neoplasia. Alterations in the gut microbiota and/or gut bile acids could account for the increase in this risk. However, no studies have yet investigated the net result of cholestasis and a potentially altered bile acid pool interacting with a dysbiotic gut flora in the inflamed colon of PSC-IBD.
AIM:
The aim of this study was to compare the gut microbiota and stool bile acid profiles, as well as and their correlation in patients with PSC-IBD and inflammatory bowel disease alone.
METHODS:
Thirty patients with extensive colitis (15 with concomitant primary sclerosing cholangitis) were prospectively recruited and fresh stool samples were collected. The microbiota composition in stool was profiled using bacterial 16S rRNA sequencing. Stool bile acids were assessed by high-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry.
RESULTS:
The total stool bile acid pool was significantly reduced in PSC-IBD. Although no major differences were observed in the individual bile acid species in stool, their overall combination allowed a good separation between PSC-IBD and inflammatory bowel disease. Compared with inflammatory bowel disease alone, PSC-IBD patients demonstrated a different gut microbiota composition with enrichment in Ruminococcus and Fusobacterium genus compared with inflammatory bowel disease. At the operational taxonomic unit level major shifts were observed within the Firmicutes (73%) and Bacteroidetes phyla (17%). Specific microbiota-bile acid correlations were observed in PSC-IBD, where 12% of the operational taxonomic units strongly correlated with stool bile acids, compared with only 0.4% in non-PSC-IBD.
CONCLUSIONS:
Patients with PSC-IBD had distinct microbiota and microbiota-stool bile acid correlations as compared with inflammatory bowel disease. Whether these changes are associated with, or may predispose to, an increased risk of colorectal neoplasia needs to be further clarified.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Enhancing discovery of genetic variants for posttraumatic stress disorder through integration of quantitative phenotypes and trauma exposure information
BACKGROUND: Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is heritable and a potential consequence of exposure to traumatic stress. Evidence suggests that a quantitative approach to PTSD phenotype measurement and incorporation of lifetime trauma exposure (LTE) information could enhance the discovery power of PTSD genome-wide association studies (GWASs).
METHODS: A GWAS on PTSD symptoms was performed in 51 cohorts followed by a fixed-effects meta-analysis (N = 182,199 European ancestry participants). A GWAS of LTE burden was performed in the UK Biobank cohort (N = 132,988). Genetic correlations were evaluated with linkage disequilibrium score regression. Multivariate analysis was performed using Multi-Trait Analysis of GWAS. Functional mapping and annotation of leading loci was performed with FUMA. Replication was evaluated using the Million Veteran Program GWAS of PTSD total symptoms.
RESULTS: GWASs of PTSD symptoms and LTE burden identified 5 and 6 independent genome-wide significant loci, respectively. There was a 72% genetic correlation between PTSD and LTE. PTSD and LTE showed largely similar patterns of genetic correlation with other traits, albeit with some distinctions. Adjusting PTSD for LTE reduced PTSD heritability by 31%. Multivariate analysis of PTSD and LTE increased the effective sample size of the PTSD GWAS by 20% and identified 4 additional loci. Four of these 9 PTSD loci were independently replicated in the Million Veteran Program.
CONCLUSIONS: Through using a quantitative trait measure of PTSD, we identified novel risk loci not previously identified using prior case-control analyses. PTSD and LTE have a high genetic overlap that can be leveraged to increase discovery power through multivariate methods
Experimental magic state distillation for fault-tolerant quantum computing
Any physical quantum device for quantum information processing is subject to
errors in implementation. In order to be reliable and efficient, quantum
computers will need error correcting or error avoiding methods. Fault-tolerance
achieved through quantum error correction will be an integral part of quantum
computers. Of the many methods that have been discovered to implement it, a
highly successful approach has been to use transversal gates and specific
initial states. A critical element for its implementation is the availability
of high-fidelity initial states such as |0> and the Magic State. Here we report
an experiment, performed in a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) quantum
processor, showing sufficient quantum control to improve the fidelity of
imperfect initial magic states by distilling five of them into one with higher
fidelity
Proton Structure Functions from Chiral Dynamics and QCD Constraints
The spin fractions and deep inelastic structure functions of the proton are
analyzed using chiral field theory involving Goldstone bosons. A detailed
comparison with recent chiral models sheds light on their successful
description of the spin fractions of the proton as being due to neglecting
helicity non-flip chiral transitions. This approximation is valid for zero mass
quarks but not for constituent quarks. Since the chiral spin fraction models
with the pure spin-flip approximation reproduce the measured spin fractions of
the proton, axialvector constituent-quark-Goldstone boson coupling is found to
be inconsistent with the proton spin data. Initial quark valence distributions
are then constructed using quark counting constraints at Bjorken and
Regge behavior at . Sea quark distributions predicted by chiral field
theory on this basis have correct order of magnitude and shape. The spin
fractions agree with the data.Comment: 30 pages, 2 tables, 10 figure-ps files, LaTex. Accepted by Int. J.
