Identifying idiolect in forensic authorship attribution: an n-gram textbite approach
Forensic authorship attribution is concerned with identifying authors of disputed or anonymous documents, which are potentially evidential in legal cases, through the analysis of linguistic clues left behind by writers. The forensic linguist âapproaches this problem of questioned authorship from the theoretical position that every native speaker has their own distinct and individual version of the language [. . . ], their own idiolectâ (Coulthard, 2004: 31). However, given the diXculty in empirically substantiating a theory of idiolect, there is growing concern in the Veld that it remains too abstract to be of practical use (Kredens, 2002; Grant, 2010; Turell, 2010). Stylistic, corpus, and computational approaches to text, however, are able to identify repeated collocational patterns, or n-grams, two to six word chunks of language, similar to the popular notion of soundbites: small segments of no more than a few seconds of speech that journalists are able to recognise as having news value and which characterise the important moments of talk. The soundbite oUers an intriguing parallel for authorship attribution studies, with the following question arising: looking at any set of texts by any author, is it possible to identify ân-gram textbitesâ, small textual segments that characterise that authorâs writing, providing DNA-like chunks of identifying material

A Third Planet Orbiting HIP 14810
We present new precision radial velocities and a three-planet Keplerian orbit
fit for the V = 8.5, G5 V star HIP 14810. We began observing this star at Keck
Observatory as part of the N2K Planet Search Project. Wright et al. (2007)
announced the inner two planets to this system, and subsequent observations
have revealed the outer planet planet and the proper orbital solution for the
middle planet. The planets have minimum masses of 3.9, 1.3, and 0.6 M_Jup and
orbital periods of 6.67, 147.7, and 952 d, respectively. We have numerically
integrated the family of orbital solutions consistent with the data and find
that they are stable for at least 10^6 yr. Our photometric search shows that
the inner planet does not transit.Comment: ApJL, accepte

Behavioural compensatory adjustments to exercise training in overweight women
<b>Purpose:</b> To examine extent to which changes in non-exercise physical activity contribute to individual differences in body fat loss induced by exercise programs. <b>Methods:</b> Thirty four overweight/obese sedentary women (age: 31.7 +/- 8.1 years, BMI: 29.3 +/- 4.3 kg m-2) exercised for 8 weeks. Body composition, total energy expenditure (TEE), exercise EE (ExEE), activity EE (AEE) calculated as energy expenditure of all active activities minus ExEE, sedentary EE (SEDEE), sleeping EE (SEE), and energy intake were determined before and during the last week of the exercise intervention. <b>Results:</b> Over the 8-week exercise program net ExEE was 30.2 +/- 12.6 MJ and based on this, body fat loss was predicted to be 0.8 +/- 0.2 kg. For the group as a whole, change in body fat (-0.0 +/- 0.2 kg) was not significant but individual body fat changes ranged from -3.2 kg to +2.6 kg. Eleven participants achieved equal or more than the predicted body fat loss and were classified as 'Responders' and 23 subjects achieved less than the predicted fat loss and were classified as 'Non-responders'. In the group as a whole, daily TEE was increased by 0.62 +/- 0.30 MJ (p<0.05) and the change tended to be different between groups (Responders, +1.44 +/- 0.49 MJ; Non-responders, +0.29 +/- 0.36 MJ, p=0.08). Changes in daily AEE of Responders and Non-responders differed significantly between groups (Responders, +0.79 +/- 0.50 MJ; Non-responders, -0.62 +/- 0.39 MJ, p<0.05). There were no differences between Responders and Non-responders for changes in SEDEE and SEE or energy intake. <b>Conclusion:</b> Overweight and obese women who during exercise intervention achieve lower than predicted fat loss are compensating by being less active outside exercise sessions
On the complexion of pseudoscalar mesons
A strongly momentum-dependent dressed-quark mass function is basic to QCD. It
is central to the appearance of a constituent-quark mass-scale and an
existential prerequisite for Goldstone modes. Dyson-Schwinger equation (DSEs)
studies have long emphasised this importance, and have proved that QCD's
Goldstone modes are the only pseudoscalar mesons to possess a nonzero leptonic
decay constant in the chiral limit when chiral symmetry is dynamically broken,
while the decay constants of their radial excitations vanish. Such features are
readily illustrated using a rainbow-ladder truncation of the DSEs. In this
connection we find (in GeV): f_{eta_c(1S)}= 0.233, m_{eta_c(2S)}=3.42; and
support for interpreting eta(1295), eta(1470) as the first radial excitations
of eta(548), eta'(958), respectively, and K(1460) as the first radial
excitation of the kaon. Moreover, such radial excitations have electromagnetic
diameters greater than 2fm. This exceeds the spatial length of lattices used

Bedrock geology of the northern Columbia Plateau and adjacent areas
The Columbia Plateau is surrounded by a complex assemblage of highly deformed Precambrian to lower Tertiary continental and oceanic rocks that reflects numerous episodes of continental accretion. The plateau itself is comprised of the Columbia River basalt group formed between about 16.5 x 1 million years B.P. and 6 x 1 million years B.P. Eruptions were infrequent between about 14 and 6 x 1 million years B.P., allowing time for erosion and deformation between successive outpourings. The present-day courses of much of the Snake River, and parts of the Columbia River, across the plateau date from this time. Basalt produced during this waning activity is more heterogeneous chemically and isotopically than older flows, reflecting its prolonged period of volcanism
