Singularities of Lagrangian Mean Curvature Flow
Lagrangian mean curvature flow is a promising tool in the study of special Lagrangians. Though the flow has been of interest now for several decades, singularities of the flow are still not well understood, and extensions and generalisations of the flow are still being uncovered and explored. The work of this thesis investigates two distinct topics, both of which shed light on the structure and behaviour of Lagrangian mean curvature flow. We first demonstrate the existence of a boundary condition for Lagrangian mean curvature flow in Calabi-Yau manifolds which preserves the Lagrangian condition. The boundary condition is a generalisation of the constant Lagrangian angle difference between intersecting special Lagrangian submanifolds. This work applies and extends the original work of Smoczyk [60] which proves that the class of closed Lagrangian submanifolds in Calabi-Yau manifolds is preserved. We also investigate singularities of equivariant and almost-calibrated Lagrangian mean curvature flow – flows in Cn with an O(n)-symmetry and a pinching condition on the Lagrangian angle. Given a singularity, we prove that any Type I blowup is a unique pair of planes P1 + P2, any Type II blowup is the Lawlor neck SLaw with asymptotes P1 + P2, and any ‘intermediate’ blowup is P1 + P2. We also prove conditions for longtime existence and singularity formation of the flow. Finally, we investigate the relationship between these topics. We prove that any almost-calibrated equivariant Lagrangian mean curvature flow with boundary on the Lawlor neck converges in infinite time to a special Lagrangian disc, and that the same is true for any rescaled Lagrangian mean curvature flow with boundary on the Clifford torus (assuming extra conditions on the Lagrangian angle)

Eocene Rodents, Pruett Formation, Southwest Texas; Their Pertinence to the Origin of the South African Caviomorpha
Contents: Abstract -- List of Illustrations -- List of Tables -- Introduction -- Family Paramyidae -- Family Cylindrodontidae -- Family indet -- Age of the Lower Pruett Formation as indicated by the Rodents -- References CitedThe rodents from three localities in the Pruett Formation of the Buck Hill Volcanic
Group from the Big Bend region of Texas are described. Included are the
paramyids Thishemys plicatus, Microparamys minutus, Lophiparamys sp. indet.,
and at least one indeterminate paramyid; new species, M. boskeyi, of the cylindro- dont genus Mysops and hystricognathous rodent of uncertain familial position,
Prolapsus, new genus. Prolapsus is represented by P. sibilatoris, new species; P.
junctionis, new species; and third, smaller but indeterminate species. The rodents
both individually and collectively strongly support Middle Eocene (Bridgeran)
age for the lower part of the Pruett Formation. Prolapsus is the first fully hystricognathous
rodent to be reported from the Eocene of any part of the world. It is already
too advanced in the characters of the cheek teeth to have been ancestral to
the South American Caviomorpha. The incisor enamel is of the pauciserial type, characteristic of the primitive Eocene rodents, the families Paramyidae and Sciuravidae,
and the mid-Eocene cylindrodont Mysops. Although the incisor enamel and
the cheek teeth show that Prolapsus could not have been caviomorph, it seems
probable that the Caviomorpha were derived from Middle American Eocene ancestors
of the same general stock as Prolapsus. The presence of Prolapsus in North
America is weighty argument against late Eocene trans-Atlantic migration of
rodents. Unknown but probably related forms, from southwest Asia, were presumably
ancestral to the African Phiomorpha.Texas Memorial Museu
Cohomogeneity-One Lagrangian Mean Curvature Flow
We study mean curvature flow of Lagrangians in that are
cohomogeneity-one under a compact Lie group acting
linearly on . Each such Lagrangian necessarily lies in a level
set of the standard moment map , and mean curvature flow preserves this containment. We
classify all cohomogeneity-one self-similarly shrinking, expanding and
translating solutions to the flow, as well as cohomogeneity-one smooth special
Lagrangians lying in . Restricting to the case of
almost-calibrated flows in the zero level set , we classify
finite-time singularities, explicitly describing the Type I and Type II blowup
models. Finally, given any cohomogeneity-one special Lagrangian submanifold in
, we show it occurs as the Type II blowup model of a Lagrangian
MCF singularity, thereby providing infinitely many previously unobserved
singularity models. Throughout, we give explicit examples of suitable group
actions, including a complete list in the case of simple.Comment: 53 pages, 3 figure

A New Genus of Eomyid Rodent from the Ogliocene Ash Spring Local Fauna of Trans-Pecos Texas
Contents: Abstract -- Introductions -- Meliakrouniomys new genus -- Description -- Discussion -- Meliakrouniomys wilsoni new species -- References CitedThis paper describes a new genus and species of eomyid rodent, Meliakrouniomijs tcilsoni, from the Ash Spring local fauna, the latest vertebrate faunule from the Vieja Group of Trans-Pecos Texas. The teeth indicate that it is an eomyid rodent in process of tooth pattern simplification. Resemblances in tooth pattern and jaw structure to heteromyids and eomyids suggest that Meliakrouniomys may represent a transitional stage between the two families.Texas Memorial Museu

Virtual Reality for Preservation: Production of Virtual Reality Heritage Spaces in the Classrooom
The Bethel AME Church was the oldest African American church in Indianapolis. In November 2016, the congregation moved out of downtown, and the building that had housed the congregation since 1869 was sold. It is now being redeveloped into a hotel. Through the Virtual Bethel project, faculty and students in the Media Arts and Science (MAS) program at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) created a 3D virtual space of the physical sanctuary to preserve the cultural heritage of Bethel. During its creation, Virtual Bethel served as a curricular and co-curricular experience for the undergraduate students in the 3D graphics and animation specialization within class N441 3D Team Production, which was co-taught by Albert William and Zebulun Wood. Virtual Bethel, finished in 2018, was the first historical and cultural preservation project that used VR within our class, program, school, and Indiana University (IU) campus. Users can interact with various types of primary sources (e.g., photographs, video, audio, text) to learn about the underrepresented history of African Americans associated with the church. Virtual Bethel was created in a series of classes within the MAS Program in the School of Informatics and Computing (SoIC), IUPUI. Methods of teaching a team of students to preserve historic spaces using VR are discussed, as are our philosophies toward productions when working with varying stakeholders’ priorities related to data preservation, asset preservation, and cultural preservation
