    Systematics of low energy collective states in neutron-rich Cd isotopes

    It has been shown that there are significant deviations from the expected U(5) dynamical symmetry for 110,112,114,116Cd. However, there is very significant mixing with intruder states in this region. In this paper, we investigated states in the heavier 120,124,126Cd populated via beta decay. These nuclei exhibit similar patterns to the lighter Cd isotopes even though the intruder states are much higher in energy. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd

    ß-delayed neutron emission of r-process nuclei at the N=82 shell closure

    Theoretical models of ß-delayed neutron emission are used as crucial inputs in r-process calculations. Benchmarking the predictions of these models is a challenge due to a lack of currently available experimental data. In this work the ß-delayed neutron emission probabilities of 33 nuclides in the important mass regions south and south-west of 132Sn are presented, 16 for the first time. The measurements were performed at RIKEN using the Advanced Implantation Detector Array (AIDA) and the BRIKEN neutron detector array.     Observation of a mu s isomer in In-134(49)85: Proton-neutron coupling "southeast" of Sn-132(50)82

    We report on the observation of a microsecond isomeric state in the single-proton-hole, three-neutron-particle nucleus ¹³⁴In. The nuclei of interest were produced by in-flight fission of a ²³⁸U beam at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory at RIKEN. The isomer depopulates through a γ ray of energy 56.7(1) keV and with a half-life of T1/2=3.5(4)μs. Based on the comparison with shell-model calculations, we interpret the isomer as the Iπ=5− member of the π0g−19/2⊗ν1f37/2 multiplet, decaying to the Iπ=7− ground state with a reduced-transition probability of B(E2;5−→7−)=0.53(6)W.u.Observation of this isomer, and lack of evidence in the current work for a Iπ=5− isomer decay in ¹³²In, provides a benchmark of the proton-neutron interaction in the region of the nuclear chart “southeast” of ¹³²Sn, where experimental information on excited states is sparse

    The β-decay properties of the very neutron-rich 84Ge nucleus were studied at the Holifield Radioactive Ion Beam Facility at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Several new γ-transitions and levels were added to its decay scheme and the order of the two lowest-lying levels in the daughter 84As was corrected. For the first time γ radiation following β-delayed neutron emission was observed. The shell-model calculations and apparent β transition intensities were used to guide the spin assignment to the 84As levels, in particular for the low-energy part of the level scheme. The new spin-parity (2−) proposed for the ground state of 84As is supported also by the systematics of N=51 isotones.status: publishe

    Transfer cross sections at near-barrier energy for the 24Mg + 90,92Zr systems

    We have tested the hypothesis that for systems 24Mg + 90,92Zr, the shape of the barrier height distribution is not influenced by transfers processes. The experiment was performed using the ICARE detector system at the Warsaw Cyclotron. Having measured the transfer cross sections of the near-barrier collisions of 24Mg + 90,92Zr, we have found them to be roughly half of the value obtained for the 20Ne + 90,92Zr systems. From that observation, we conclude that in the 24Mg + 90,92Zr case, the leading cause of washing out the barrier distribution structure is the partial dissipation of relative kinetic energy into the non-collective excitation of the system.peerReviewe

In this contribution, we would like to present the results of the measurement of 86Br. The preliminary analysis yields an average energy of emitted γ-radiation of about 4110 keV. It represents an increase of over 26% (850 keV), when compared to the average EM energies deduced using the ENSDF database

    New Half-lives of r-process Zn and Ga Isotopes Measured with Electromagnetic Separation

    The β decays of neutron-rich nuclei near the doubly magic Ni78 were studied at the Holifield Radioactive Ion Beam Facility using an electromagnetic isobar separator. The half-lives of Zn82 (228±10ms), Zn83 (117±20ms), and Ga85 (93±7ms) were determined for the first time. These half-lives were found to be very different from the predictions of the global model used in astrophysical simulations. A new calculation was developed using the density functional model, which properly reproduced the new experimental values. The robustness of the new model in the Ni78 region allowed us to extrapolate data for more neutron-rich isotopes. The revised analysis of the rapid neutron capture process in low entropy environments with our new set of measured and calculated half-lives shows a significant redistribution of predicted isobaric abundances strengthening the yield of A\u3e140 nuclei. © 2012 American Physical Society
