Parametric analysis of diffuser requirements for high expansion ratio space engine
A supersonic diffuser ejector design computer program was developed. Using empirically modified one dimensional flow methods the diffuser ejector geometry is specified by the code. The design code results for calculations up to the end of the diffuser second throat were verified. Diffuser requirements for sea level testing of high expansion ratio space engines were defined. The feasibility of an ejector system using two commonly available turbojet engines feeding two variable area ratio ejectors was demonstrated
Elastic properties of cubic crystals: Every's versus Blackman's diagram
Blackman's diagram of two dimensionless ratios of elastic constants is
frequently used to correlate elastic properties of cubic crystals with
interatomic bondings. Every's diagram of a different set of two dimensionless
variables was used by us for classification of various properties of such
crystals. We compare these two ways of characterization of elastic properties
of cubic materials and consider the description of various groups of materials,
e.g. simple metals, oxides, and alkali halides. With exception of intermediate
valent compounds, the correlation coefficients for Every's diagrams of various
groups of materials are greater than for Blackaman's diagrams, revealing the
existence of a linear relationship between two dimensionless Every's variables.
Alignment of elements and compounds along lines of constant Poisson's ratio

observed. Division of the stability region in Blackman's diagram into region of
complete auxetics, auxetics and non-auxetics is introduced. Correlations of a

The Lax pairs for the Holt system
By using non-canonical transformation between the Holt system and the
Henon-Heiles system the Lax pairs for all the integrable cases of the Holt
system are constructed from the known Lax representations for the Henon-Heiles

Spectral asymmetry for bag boundary conditions
We give an expression, in terms of boundary spectral functions, for the
spectral asymmetry of the Euclidean Dirac operator in two dimensions, when its
domain is determined by local boundary conditions, and the manifold is of
product type. As an application, we explicitly evaluate the asymmetry in the
case of a finite-length cylinder, and check that the outcome is consistent with
our general result. Finally, we study the asymmetry in a disk, which is a

Observation of Long-Lived Muonic Hydrogen in the 2S State
The kinetic energy distribution of ground state muonic hydrogen atoms
mu-p(1S) is determined from time-of-flight spectra measured at 4, 16, and 64
hPa H2 room-temperature gas. A 0.9 keV-component is discovered and attributed
to radiationless deexcitation of long-lived mu-p(2S) atoms in collisions with
H2 molecules. The analysis reveals a relative population of about 1%, and a
pressure-dependent lifetime (e.g. (30.4 +21.4 -9.7) ns at 64 hPa) of the
long-lived mu-p(2S) population, equivalent to a 2S-quench rate in mu-p(2S) + H2
collisions of (4.4 +2.1 -1.8) 10^11 s^-1 at liquid hydrogen density.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, accepted for publication in Physical Review

Third order superintegrable systems separating in polar coordinates
A complete classification is presented of quantum and classical
superintegrable systems in that allow the separation of variables in
polar coordinates and admit an additional integral of motion of order three in
the momentum. New quantum superintegrable systems are discovered for which the
potential is expressed in terms of the sixth Painlev\'e transcendent or in
terms of the Weierstrass elliptic function
The influence of steroidal and triterpenoid saponins on monolayer models of the outer leaflets of human erythrocytes, E. coli and S. cerevisiae cell membranes
The present paper discusses the use of monolayers of lipid mixtures mimicking the composition of biological membranes of bacteria, erythrocyte and yeast in the context of the anti-bacterial, hemolytic and anti-fungal activity of saponins. Saponins are plant-produced glycosidic biosurfactants with either steroidal or triterpenoidal aglycone. In the present study we used digitonin as a representative steroidal saponin (extracted from Digitalis purpurea) and a mixture of triterpenoid saponins from Quillaja saponaria Molina.
