ABSTRACT This research was aimed was to know the effect subclinical mastitis stage for Friesian Holstein dairy milk quality in all months of lactation in the milk collecting line in Malang. Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is one of the major bacterial causes of mastitis and subclinical mastitis in dairy cows. This disease is caused economic losses due to falling milk production and the addition of production costs. One of the criteria for the differentiation of S. aureus is the formation of pigment. Phenotype characteristics of S. aureus in vitro as a cause of subclinical mastitis in dairy cows are using 30 isolates. The level of mastitis subclinical is used by reagent IPB-l. Isolation and identification of S. aureus carried by several biochemical tests, namely: culture on Agar Blood Frame (ABF) media, observation of cell morphology, catalase test, coagulates test, and fermentation of mannitol test. Character is done by observing colony pigment on ABF media. The incidence rate of subclinical mastitis milk samples are from 198 dairy cattle, 107subclinical mastitis positive samples (54%) and 91 (46%) negative subclinical mastitis. From 30 isolates of S. aureus isolates subclinical mastitis caused 43.33% and 56.67% negative subclinical mastitis. Based on pigment production of the S. aureus isolated, 11 isolates (36.67%) produces a yellow pigment, 17 isolates (56.67%) white pigment, 1 isolates (3.33%) and an orange pigment isolates (3.33%) are not pigmented

Semi-arid region of West Timor has a good potential of livestock farming, including goat farming. Small scale goat farms in West Timor raise their animals in semi-intensive system by rearing their animals in pasture or rice field. There are a high demand of goat in the local market especially prior to Kurban Fiest. Despite high population growth of goat, there are some reasons causing low productivity, such as parasite infections. Taeniid cestodes infect carnivores (as well as human) as the definitive host and involve a wide range of intermediate host where they present as metacestode cyst.1Cysticercosis or infection of cestode larval stages (metacestode) may appear vary from subclinical to severe clinical signs.1 Cysticercus infection lead to productivity losses2 even mortality in livestock.3 They are responsible for economic losses due to partial or total condemnation of carcass and offal.1, 3 Cysticercosis also pose a risk of public health.3 The zoonosis risk even higher in developing countries and especially in rural area, people lives in close proximity with animals,  poor sanitation3 and low awareness. Dogs and wild canids are common definitive host of the most metacestodes occurring in goat and other ruminants.1 But some of them involve human as definitive host as well as incidental intermediate host in their life cycle.4 To make an effective control of cestode infection, it is necessary to identify the agent and collect its epidemiological data. This research aims to determine the prevalence and to identify the etiological agent of cysticercosis of goats in semi-arid region of West Timor.Cysticercosis in Goats in the Semi-arid Tropics of Timor Island, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesi

Gentrifying the Peri-urban: Land use Conflicts and institutional dynamics at the Frontier of an Indonesian Metropolis

    Get PDF
This paper aims to specify the meaning of gentrification in rapidly peri-urbanising metropolitan regions in the context of Indonesia’s rapid transition to decentralisation and democracy. It discusses a case study of conflict over an environmental revitalisation project in a peri-urban area of Bandung City. The analysis focuses on the political processes, tactics and strategies supporting and opposing peri-urban gentrification and their consequences. The analysis illustrates how these political dynamics mediate the interaction between the movement of capital and the spatial reorganisation of social classes. It is argued that in the context of a peri-urbanising metropolis, gentrification needs to be narrated less in terms of class-based neighbourhood succession and more in terms of competing cross-class coalitions emerging at local and regional levels
