Capacity Utilization Rates across NFL Stadiums

    Get PDF
Attendance at NFL games has steadily increased for the past half-decade. Teams and the league as a whole have a direct interest in learning what brings fans to the games. This research studies the economic/demographic factors and team characteristics that affect stadium capacity utilization rates of NFL teams over the period from 2012 to 2016. Among the economic/demographic factors, we find that the more populated the city is where a team is located, the higher the team’s stadium capacity utilization rate. Among the team characteristics, our results indicate that having a new stadium, having more professional teams in a city, and the team’s winning percentage all affect the stadium capacity utilization rate

Design and Implementation of a Fixture for Robotic Welding

    Get PDF
The Cal Poly IME department recently purchased a robotic welder. The faculty would like to see this robot incorporated into the welding class. The robot was capable of moving, but was not able to perform a weld prior to this project. This problem is addressed by creating a demonstration part for the welding class. The objectives that need to be complete for this to be possible is designing a part, designing a fixture, analyzing the cost of robotic welding, and implement welding the part in the class. The part is designed with specific requirements in mind. The fixture is designed using an approach from “A Review on Design of Fixtures.” The results of this project are a completed part and fixture. There were several issues that occurred when fabricating the fixture. This resulted in a fixture that was incapable of producing parts that met the requirements. The robotic welding process is shown to be impractical for this application from an economic standpoint. The robotic welder is now fully operational and with little effort can be used in the welding class

A Study of Animal Husbandry Practices of One Hundred Negro Farmers in Anderson County, Texas

    Get PDF
Many instructors teaching vocational agriculture in high schools can greatly improve their teaching techniques by first improving their knowledge of teaching. New teachers would be more efficient if they, too, could find out more definitely what they should teach before they begin teaching. It is with these facts in mind that this study was undertaken. The writer proposes in this study to work out suggestions that may be used in teaching animal husbandry in Clemmons High School, Anderson County, Texas. It is also hoped that these suggestions may prove helpful to teachers of vocational agriculture in other schools in Anderson County. A survey was made of certain animal husbandry practices to determine the practices used. From this survey deductions were made and it is hoped that the information found will be used in outlining a program in animal husbandry to be taught in Clemmons High School. The problem dealt with in this study may best be set forth by the following questions: 1. What are the animal husbandry practices used by the 100 Negro farmers surveyed in Anderson County? 2. What practices are essential for successful animal husbandry production on these 100 farms surveyed? 3. To what extent can the animal husbandry practices be improved in Clemmons School Community, Anderson County, Texas

The influence of clearance on friction, lubrication and squeaking in large diameter metal-on-metal hip replacements

Large diameter metal-on-metal bearings (MOM) are becoming increasingly popular, addressing the needs of young and more active patients. Clinical data has shown excellent short-to-mid-term results, though incidences of transient squeaking have been noted between implantation and up to 2 years post-operative. Geometric design features, such as clearance, have been significant in influencing the performance of the bearings. Sets of MOM bearings with different clearances were investigated in this study using a hip friction simulator to examine the influence of clearance on friction, lubrication and squeaking. The friction factor was found to be highest in the largest clearance bearings under all test conditions. The incidence of squeaking was also highest in the large clearance bearings, with all bearings in this group squeaking throughout the study. A very low incidence of squeaking was observed in the other two clearance groups. The measured lubricating film was found to be lowest in the large clearance bearings. This study suggests that increasing the bearing clearance results in reduced lubricant film thickness, increased friction and an increased incidence of squeaking

Pasting of G-Irradiated Proteins from Vigna Subterranea in Native Starch Models and the Surface Functional Properties of the Proteins

This research was carried out to evaluate the surface functional properties of gamma irradiated Bambara groundnut protein isolates and to study the pasting characteristics of the modified protein in native starch models using the Brabender Viscoamylograph. Irradiation was done at five levels: 2.50, 5.00, 7.50, and 10.00 kGy; while the pasting of the Proteins (P) was run in Starch (S) models of three combinations; 30P:70S, 50P:50S, 70P:30S. The results showed significant (p<0.05) effects of increasing irradiation doses on protein related surface functional properties, while pasting characteristics of the irradiated protein in the experimental range showed no significant dose-dependent (p<0.05) changes. There was characteristic starch paste behaviour on the other hand with increasing starch:protein ratios. Conclusively, correlation studies suggested that the pasting properties depended solely on the starch concentration within the admixture models indicating the insignificant contribution of modified Bambara groundnut proteins to the pasting properties in the models. Enhanced surface functional properties of the gamma irradiated proteins make them potential foaming and emulsifying agents in food applications. The starch-protein admixture models may also serve as a potential protein based thickening agents for foods that require various degrees of viscosity modifying effects. Key words: Bambara groundnut protein, modified protein, gamma irradiated protein

I Can’t Remember: The Effects of Machiavellianism, Mental Effort and Lying on Memory

    Get PDF
Past research has demonstrated that lying about an event interferes with one’s later recall of that event (Pickel, 2004; Zaragoza, Belli, & Payment, 2007). This study examined the extent that individual differences in Machiavellianism (Christie & Geis, 1970) moderated the effect of lying on event recollection. In a multi-session study, participants were asked to either truthfully recount or lie about the events depicted in a video clip that they had just viewed. One week later, participants verbally recalled the actual events of the clip. Participants did not differ in the amounts of correct inferences and correct details recalled from the clip. However, low levels of Machiavellianism were associated with less memory distortion of the inferable information after lying whereas higher levels of Machiavellianism was related to increased reporting of incorrect inferences after lying. These results also found that high Machiavellian individuals who lied are better able to differentiate between correct and incorrect details during recall than low Machiavellian individuals

Siblings, asthma, rhinoconjunctivitis and eczema: a worldwide perspective from the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood.

BACKGROUND: Associations of larger families with lower prevalences of hay fever, eczema and objective markers of allergic sensitization have been found fairly consistently in affluent countries, but little is known about these relationships in less affluent countries. METHODS: Questionnaire data for 210,200 children aged 6-7 years from 31 countries, and 337,226 children aged 13-14 years from 52 countries, were collected by Phase Three of the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC). Associations of disease symptoms and labels of asthma, rhinoconjunctivitis and eczema were analysed by numbers of total, older and younger siblings, using mixed (multi-level) logistic regression models to adjust for individual covariates and at the centre level for region, language and national affluence. RESULTS: In both age groups, inverse trends (P < 0.0001) were observed for reported 'hay fever ever' and 'eczema ever' with increasing numbers of total siblings, and more specifically older siblings. These inverse associations were significantly (P < 0.005) stronger in more affluent countries. In contrast, symptoms of severe asthma and severe eczema were positively associated (P < 0.0001) with total sibship size in both age groups. These associations with disease severity were largely independent of position within the sibship and national GNI per capita. CONCLUSIONS: These global findings on sibship size and childhood asthma, rhinoconjunctivitis and eczema suggest at least two distinct trends. Inverse associations with older siblings (observations which prompted the 'hygiene hypothesis' for allergic disease) are mainly a phenomenon of more affluent countries, whereas greater severity of symptoms in larger families is globally more widespread

Piloting the Integration of Non-Dispensing Pharmacists in the Australian General Practice Setting: A Process Evaluation

    Get PDF
This process evaluation examined the circumstances affecting implementation, intervention design and situational context of the twelve week pilot phase of a project integrating five pharmacists into twelve general practice sites in Western Sydney. The interventional design included three phases, patient recruitment and selection, the pharmacist consultation and the communication and recording of recommendations. A number of barriers and facilitators affecting implementation were identified. Insight into the situational context of the intervention was gained from examining the differences between individual pharmacists and between practice sites. Conducting a process evaluation in the pilot phase of an integrated care project can allow adjustments to be made to the project procedures to improve the effectiveness and reproducibility of the intervention going forward
