Previous research has demonstrated a relationship between entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and organizational performance. Utilizing the resource-based theoretical paradigm, past empirical and theoretical research is synthesized towards a common conceptual framework which examines the role of charismatic leadership in the EO-Performance relationship. Incorporating previous leadership research on charisma and Machiavellianism, it is proposed that either egocentric (self-enhancing) or collective (organizational) values of the individuals working at the organization will influence the EO-Performance relationship. This paper asserts that a charismatic leader will stimulate positive employee organizational citizenship behaviour, whereas a Machiavellian leader will stimulate negative employee impression management practices. Understanding the role leadership plays in today’s environment, entrepreneurs will be better able to equip their human resource to achieve their vision of tomorrow.

The preponderance of matter over antimatter in the early Universe, the dynamics of the supernova bursts that produced the heavy elements necessary for life and whether protons eventually decay --- these mysteries at the forefront of particle physics and astrophysics are key to understanding the early evolution of our Universe, its current state and its eventual fate. The Long-Baseline Neutrino Experiment (LBNE) represents an extensively developed plan for a world-class experiment dedicated to addressing these questions. LBNE is conceived around three central components: (1) a new, high-intensity neutrino source generated from a megawatt-class proton accelerator at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, (2) a near neutrino detector just downstream of the source, and (3) a massive liquid argon time-projection chamber deployed as a far detector deep underground at the Sanford Underground Research Facility. This facility, located at the site of the former Homestake Mine in Lead, South Dakota, is approximately 1,300 km from the neutrino source at Fermilab -- a distance (baseline) that delivers optimal sensitivity to neutrino charge-parity symmetry violation and mass ordering effects. This ambitious yet cost-effective design incorporates scalability and flexibility and can accommodate a variety of upgrades and contributions. With its exceptional combination of experimental configuration, technical capabilities, and potential for transformative discoveries, LBNE promises to be a vital facility for the field of particle physics worldwide, providing physicists from around the globe with opportunities to collaborate in a twenty to thirty year program of exciting science. In this document we provide a comprehensive overview of LBNE's scientific objectives, its place in the landscape of neutrino physics worldwide, the technologies it will incorporate and the capabilities it will possess.Comment: Major update of previous version. This is the reference document for LBNE science program and current status. Chapters 1, 3, and 9 provide a comprehensive overview of LBNE's scientific objectives, its place in the landscape of neutrino physics worldwide, the technologies it will incorporate and the capabilities it will possess. 288 pages, 116 figure

    Neutrino Physics with JUNO

The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), a 20 kton multi-purposeunderground liquid scintillator detector, was proposed with the determinationof the neutrino mass hierarchy as a primary physics goal. It is also capable ofobserving neutrinos from terrestrial and extra-terrestrial sources, includingsupernova burst neutrinos, diffuse supernova neutrino background, geoneutrinos, atmospheric neutrinos, solar neutrinos, as well as exotic searches such asnucleon decays, dark matter, sterile neutrinos, etc. We present the physicsmotivations and the anticipated performance of the JUNO detector for variousproposed measurements. By detecting reactor antineutrinos from two power plantsat 53-km distance, JUNO will determine the neutrino mass hierarchy at a 3-4sigma significance with six years of running. The measurement of antineutrinospectrum will also lead to the precise determination of three out of the sixoscillation parameters to an accuracy of better than 1\%. Neutrino burst from atypical core-collapse supernova at 10 kpc would lead to ~5000inverse-beta-decay events and ~2000 all-flavor neutrino-proton elasticscattering events in JUNO. Detection of DSNB would provide valuable informationon the cosmic star-formation rate and the average core-collapsed neutrinoenergy spectrum. Geo-neutrinos can be detected in JUNO with a rate of ~400events per year, significantly improving the statistics of existing geoneutrinosamples. The JUNO detector is sensitive to several exotic searches, e.g. protondecay via the p→K++Μˉp\to K^++\bar\nu decay channel. The JUNO detector will providea unique facility to address many outstanding crucial questions in particle andastrophysics. It holds the great potential for further advancing our quest tounderstanding the fundamental properties of neutrinos, one of the buildingblocks of our Universe

THE MULTI-DIMENSIONAL NATURE OF UNIVERSITY INCUBATORS: CAPABILITY/RESOURCE EMPHASIS PHASES

    No full text
Recognizing the potential of institutional entrepreneurship, public universities are actively establishing university incubators. Literature on university entrepreneurship, university incubators, and entrepreneurship education allows us to develop a conceptual framework, identifying the multi-dimensional nature of incubator tenant firm development. Building on the precepts of resource based view theory, this paper posits the existence of dynamic element of incubator activity and relates it to the dynamic element of entrepreneurship education. Further, the role of entrepreneurship education and a community network are presented as instrumental in enabling effective collaborations. This framework contributes to the literature by highlighting the need for a multi-dimensional approach in research of incubator tenant firms. The framework also suggests effective university involvement with incubator tenant firms, as a potential university capability.

Resolving the paradox of enterprising communities in Eastern Europe

Purpose – Attempts to “Westernize” post-socialist economies of Eastern Europe resulted in little or no progress. This paper aims to incorporate the resource-based view (RBV) paradigm to shed light on the present difficulties and challenges. A shortage of resources, many of which are taken for granted in the West, is identified as a reason why some “Western-style” approaches did not work. Design/methodology/approach – Reviews of literature in entrepreneurial orientation and RBV serve as a foundation of the development of conceptual arguments. The paper presents a framework elaborating on entrepreneurial development by focusing on the national resource base called enabling resources. Findings – Richardian, functional-regulatory, and tacit culturally based resources are credited with building national entrepreneurial activity and developing a unique national competency. Research limitations/implications – The paper does not include empirical validation of its argument. Further empirical research should be done in different cultural contexts. Practical implications – The paper informs policymakers and entrepreneurs alike towards a monumental task of rebuilding these new democracies. Developed framework provides a way of building resources necessary for sustained entrepreneurial growth unique to each post-socialist economy. Originality/value – By focusing on the unique national resource base, the economic development of post-socialist economies of Eastern Europe may be improved and accelerated. This paper emphasizes the need to consider and examine available resources in the transformation and development of enterprising communities.Black people, Business development, Entrepreneurs, Small enterprises, South Africa

Entrepreneurial Charisma: A Key to Employee Identification?

Entrepreneurial businesses are an important driver of modern day economies. A firm that adopts a strategy of calculated risks and demonstrates proactiveness and innovation reflects an entrepreneurial orientation (EO). In order to create an entrepreneurial orientation and associated performance outcomes, it is necessary to understand the role of individuals and the interpersonal processes that shape values, norms, and behaviors. Incorporating research from the literature of social psychology, this study examines the effect of individual and organizational variables on employees who work for an entrepreneurial venture. A cross-sectional study of 78 employees of small Canadian businesses empirically demonstrates how an entrepreneurial strategic orientation and a charismatic leadership style encourage employees to identify with the entrepreneurial organization. Empirical results indicate that personality and strategic direction play an important part in creating value for the entrepreneurial firm
