Photonic crystal fibre source of photon pairs for quantum information processing
We demonstrate two key components for optical quantum information processing:
a bright source of heralded single photons; and a bright source of entangled
photon pairs. A pair of pump photons produces a correlated pair of photons at
widely spaced wavelengths (583 nm and 900 nm), via a four-wave
mixing process. We demonstrate a non-classical interference between heralded
photons from independent sources with a visibility of 95%, and an entangled
photon pair source, with a fidelity of 89% with a Bell state.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
The search for pre-clovis in the ice-free corridor: archaeological geophysics at Wally’s Beach
Wally’s Beach is an important archaeological/paleontological locality in southern Alberta where pre-Clovis dates have been reported from butchered faunal remains, but associated cultural materials are poorly known. Significant challenges exist for research at the site, including poor access, limited stratigraphy, and the extreme size of the site (>2km2). Ground-penetrating radar and drone imagery were conducted to identify higher-potential areas, which discovered a possible paleochannel. This discovery aids future research efforts at Wally’s Beach to better understand the earliest human occupation of the ice-free corridor
Axon Guidance: Ephrins at WRK on the Midline
Recent findings indicate that the embryonic motor neurons act as gatekeepers to regulate midline crossing during development of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. The newly identified protein WRK-1 and ephrins cooperate to prevent longitudinal axons from crossing the midline

An All Optical Fibre Quantum Controlled-NOT Gate
We report the first experimental demonstration of an optical controlled-NOT
gate constructed entirely in fibre. We operate the gate using two heralded
optical fibre single photon sources and find an average logical fidelity of 90%
and an average process fidelity of 0.83<F<0.91. On the basis of a simple model
we are able to conclude that imperfections are primarily due to the photon
sources, meaning that the gate itself works with very high fidelity.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, comments welcom
Supplementary materials for "Improvement of optical and mechanical properties of self-written polymer waveguides bridged single mode fibers"
The dataset includes detail of fibre treatments with adhesion promoter and the impact of treatment duration on the fibre ends. Then the detail of mechanical properties of polymer waveguides are presented under both transverse misalignment and tensile stress. The effect of photo-bleaching is also investigated when polymer bridges were put under tensile stress. Finally, extra information is presented about millimetre-long waveguides and how the bidirectional curing technique enabled us to fabricate up to 1.2 mm long polymer waveguides. The supplementary materials also include the actual data (Excel files) used to make the graphs in the paper. For optical transmission experiments all spectra was recorded by Optical Spectrum Analyzer (OSA). In order to measure insertion loss of each waveguide, the trace associated with optical fibre that polymer waveguide integrated with was subtracted from the trace corresponding to plain fibre which was considered as reference assuming that the loss of 3m-4m can be ignored. the spectra were taken over the wavelength range of OSA ( 350nm-1750nm) which enabled us to measure loss at any particular wavelength in that range. For misalignment measurements and polymer bridge dimensions Image J program was used to measure the distances on micrograph pictures which were taken by high resolution camera mounted on the microscope
