    Get PDF
In Indonesia, the number of construction project increased, while the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) is one of the main purposes of the construction project. However, the OHS is often neglected which is indicated by the high number of the work accident occurrences. To reduce the work risk, a safe design since the pre-construction stage which is often called prevention through design should be considered. In this research, the method was carried out by a literature study to collect theory and data from some sources, including journal, thesis and website which initiated by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Then, the research continued to field observation for collecting the references to help formulate the new design criteria. The outcome of this research demonstrates that the prevention step for the work accident should be done earlier in the project, which is in the design phase. By doing prevention, such as using the new design criteria with the OHS consideration or the prevention through design, could reduce the work accident risk that could occur in steel construction project. The new design criteria discussing 5 elements in steel structure including column, beam, rafter, endplate connection and angle plate connection by applying the elements of the OHS in advance

The demand for engineers in Indonesia has not been met with the number of professional engineers working in their respective fields. This is partly due to the low interest in engineering among students. Therefore, various programs are implemented by the government and companies to be able to introduce, educate and change perceptions on the field of engineering. This research was conducted to propose a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program in order to meet these objectives. The proposed program is an educational program in the form of a workshop on residential construction using miniature houses built of real construction materials as demonstration and learning tools. The program is aimed at high school students in accordance with the goal of increasing public interests and the number of potential engineers, particularly in the field of civil engineering. The validation process of the proposed program is done by distributing questionnaires to construction companies and high school students as stakeholders in the programs execution. The validation results show that the proposed program is quite attractive to construction companies and high school students, including those who are not interested in the engineering field. The program is also deemed feasible and able to meet the goal of developing students interest in engineering

A comprehensive assessment was conducted to an old reinforced concrete bridge in Brunei Darussalam. This bridge is about 30-40 years old, and has already shown signs of concrete distresses. The main concern was the integrity of the columns, beams and deck, as signs of concrete deteriorations were readily noticeable, e.g. cracks, delaminations, exposed rebar, and concrete spalling. Both visual inspection and non-destructive tests were performed on site. For more detail evaluation, concrete core samples were extracted and sent for testing. Based on information gathered during the investigation and the results of laboratory testing, the reviewed concrete columns were found in bad condition and required immediate repair. The main cause of this concrete distress was the reinforcement corrosion. The vertical column reinforcements were badly corroded and could not function as designed. Without initiating a repair program, it should be prepared for progressive deteriorating conditions, eventually leading to a structural at-risk scenario

Business developments that occur today cannot be separated from the role of technology and information systems. The system that will be discussed in this journal is a Web-based Restaurant System that uses a QR code. This system will handle at least 5 types of users, namely admin, waiter, chef, cleaning service, and customers where the five kind of users have different access rights. Restaurant information systems using this QR Code can speed up performance in ordering menus, serving ordered dishes, paying bills to customers and cleaning tables after use. The use of the QR code itself is very suitable in the restaurant business and marketing practices because of its advantages, namely being mobile fried and easy to get information. This will improve the quality of the restaurant in terms of service and time. This Web-Based Restaurant Menu Ordering Application is designed using web programming languages, namely PHP. For the database, it will use MySQL and the system development method will use the Agile Kanban method which can help an organization produce software that has been tested and is ready to use. The results of the system design will be in the form of a comparison table for the old and new systems depicted by the PIECES table, then UML for system modeling, and website interface. The system created will help in reducing the amount of paper used for order receipts. In addition, users can also order menus during the COVID-19 pandemic with restaurants that use this system

The use of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP), for both strengthening material and anode for Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) system, is being investigated. The focus of this study is to develop the epoxy that has good bond strength and electrical conductivity. Graphite powder is used as conductive pigments with percentage ranges from 7.5% to 17.5%. All specimens were partially submerged in 5% NaCl solution and induced with electrical current of 10 mA/m2 and 20 mA/m2 for 30 days. An average potential increase of 200 mV was recorded using half cell potential test. The application of 30 days ICCP up to current density of 20 mA/m2 did not affect the bond strength significantly and still complies with ACI recommendation. However, graphite content of more than 15% are found to be not workable and the bond strength is greatly reduced to less than 1 MPa This study concluded that the recommended graphite powder content shall be in the range of 10% to 15%

A fire damaged structure at the eastern part of Singapore was assessed. Some concrete spalling exposing corroded steel reinforcements were noted on the post tensioned concrete beam and reinforced concrete slab, raising a concern about the structural integrity of the overall floor. A comprehensive condition assessment was performed on the affected structural elements to determine the extent of the damage, which included some on-site destructive and non-destructive tests as well as some laboratory testing on the collected concrete and steel samples. Testing data revealed that the concrete was still in consistently good condition with the average residual compressive strength of 36.51MPa. Petrographic examinations suggested that the top 5mm of the concrete surface might be exposed to a temperature not more than 450o C. The steel reinforcement and post tension strands were found to be still in good condition as well. The findings of this assessment will then be used for further structural assessment to determine the most effective structural rehabilitation program

A counseling ministry that serves the request of personality and intelligence tests faces difficulties in scoring the answer of these tests. This is due to a small number of staff, while the programs they are doing are quite a lot. Until this recent, clients write their answers on the answer sheet. So the scoring is done by counting one by one the right answer. From the survey, the average time required to compute an answer sheet is more than 3 minutes. The major problem encountered in the scoring process is inaccuracies due to fatigue at the time of counting. To perform a re-calculation obviously requires a much longer time. Often, there is no re-checking the scoring process. To overcome these problems, we developed an application to read and scoring the answer sheets of the tests automatically. The experiment result on our system shows that the average time required in scoring an answer sheet is less than 2 minutes. In addition to less time, a better accuracy is gained
