On Morals, Markets, and Climate Change: Exploring Pope Francis’ Challenge
The relation between Culture and Business has caught researchers’ attention long ago; itis not hard to find studies relating to these topics. According to Hofstede et al. (2010, p.18), Hampden-Turner and Trompenaars (2012, p. 8), and Erez and Gati (2004, p. 5),culture can be defined in many levels, for example, organizational culture, and national culture. The field of Business also contains several disciplines, for example, International Business Management, Project Management, and Project Governance. However, not somany studies can be found studying the relation between National Culture and Project Governance; therefore, this study is focused on this relation.This study is designed following a qualitative approach in order to clarify the relation between National Culture and Project Governance Principles. Case studies are used targeting the IT industry of three countries, Spain, Sweden, and Taiwan. These cases also contain the classical theory of cultural dimensions from Hofstede. Hofstede’s dimensionsare Power Distance (PDI), Individualism vs. Collectivism (IDV), Uncertainty Avoidance(UAI), Masculinity vs. Femininity (MAS), Long-term Orientation (LTO), and Indulgencevs. Restraint (IDU). They are applied in this study for distinguishing the differences between countries. This study is also based on the definition of Project GovernancePrinciples from Garland (2009), Klakegg (2008), and Müller et al. (2013). ProjectGovernance Principles are split into two categories as well, hard/ structural principles andsoft/ behaviour principles.In order to clarify the link between National Culture and Project Governance Principles,this thesis’ authors interviewed 19 people, including 10 project managers and 9 experts.All of them have a long experience dealing with Project Management in the three selected countries. Their answers are based on the knowledge and experience of Project Management and Project Governance, as well as their opinions about their own national culture. After analysing the interviews, the authors consider that differences between these three countries in Project Governance and Project Governance Principles do exist. On the other hand, there are also some similar parts, for example, the influence ofcustomers’ orientation and preference. Moreover, respondents, Project Managers and Experts, all mentioned it is also necessary to be aware of the globalized environment, inother words, there is no influence of a single national culture in one country anymore.However, they all admit the importance of their own national culture as well. All these findings from this study encourage further and deeper study in the future
Point-to-origin experiments in VR revealed novel qualitative errors in visual path integration
Even in state-of-the-art virtual reality (VR) setups, participants often feel lost when navigating through virtual environments. In psychological experiments, such disorientation is often compensated for by extensive training and performance feedback. The current study investigated participants' sense of direction by means of a rapid point-to-origin task without any training or performance feedback. This allowed us to study participants' intuitive spatial orientation processes in VR while minimizing the influence of higher cognitive abilities and compensatory strategies. From an applied perspective, such a paradigm could be employed for evaluating the effectiveness and usability of a given VR setup for enabling natural and unencumbered spatial orientation even for first-time users, which is important for tasks such as architecture walk-throughs, evacuation scenario training, or driving/flight simulators

In recent years, the Internet has become the medium of choice in distance education, and a prominent delivery tool in many hospitality management programs. When students cannot be educated on site, web-based education has proven to be the next best thing to in-person instruction. The authors describe a project in which the Internet is used to educate National Park Service concession specialists, exploring the reasons the project was instigated, its development and funding, and educational challenges and solutions. Such web-based instruction can be used as a means to attract outside grants and revenues for hospitality management programs
Signal processing with Levy information
Levy processes, which have stationary independent increments, are ideal for
modelling the various types of noise that can arise in communication channels.
If a Levy process admits exponential moments, then there exists a parametric
family of measure changes called Esscher transformations. If the parameter is
replaced with an independent random variable, the true value of which
represents a "message", then under the transformed measure the original Levy
process takes on the character of an "information process". In this paper we
develop a theory of such Levy information processes. The underlying Levy
process, which we call the fiducial process, represents the "noise type". Each
such noise type is capable of carrying a message of a certain specification. A
number of examples are worked out in detail, including information processes of
the Brownian, Poisson, gamma, variance gamma, negative binomial, inverse
Gaussian, and normal inverse Gaussian type. Although in general there is no
additive decomposition of information into signal and noise, one is led
nevertheless for each noise type to a well-defined scheme for signal detection

Granger causality and transfer entropy are equivalent for Gaussian variables
Granger causality is a statistical notion of causal influence based on
prediction via vector autoregression. Developed originally in the field of
econometrics, it has since found application in a broader arena, particularly
in neuroscience. More recently transfer entropy, an information-theoretic
measure of time-directed information transfer between jointly dependent
processes, has gained traction in a similarly wide field. While it has been
recognized that the two concepts must be related, the exact relationship has
until now not been formally described. Here we show that for Gaussian
variables, Granger causality and transfer entropy are entirely equivalent, thus
bridging autoregressive and information-theoretic approaches to data-driven

Fractional Quantum Mechanics
A path integral approach to quantum physics has been developed. Fractional
path integrals over the paths of the L\'evy flights are defined. It is shown
that if the fractality of the Brownian trajectories leads to standard quantum
and statistical mechanics, then the fractality of the L\'evy paths leads to
fractional quantum mechanics and fractional statistical mechanics. The
fractional quantum and statistical mechanics have been developed via our
fractional path integral approach. A fractional generalization of the
Schr\"odinger equation has been found. A relationship between the energy and
the momentum of the nonrelativistic quantum-mechanical particle has been
established. The equation for the fractional plane wave function has been
obtained. We have derived a free particle quantum-mechanical kernel using Fox's
H function. A fractional generalization of the Heisenberg uncertainty relation
has been established. Fractional statistical mechanics has been developed via
the path integral approach. A fractional generalization of the motion equation
for the density matrix has been found. The density matrix of a free particle
has been expressed in terms of the Fox's H function. We also discuss the
relationships between fractional and the well-known Feynman path integral
approaches to quantum and statistical mechanics.Comment: 27 page
