Damage of liver can be demonstrated by increased cellular enzyme activities. Aspartat aminotransaminase (AST) and Alanin aminotransferase (ALT) are two kinds of enzymes are the most commonly associated with liver damage. One cause of liver damage is free radicals like carbon tetrachloride. Green algae (Ulva lactuca L.) contains melatonin that is able to scavenging free radical. This study aims to determine the ability of ethanolic extract of green algae (Ulva lactuca L.) as a hepatoprotective to reduce levels of AST and ALT due to free radical compounds CCl4. This research uses 35 male rats Wistar were divided into 5 groups. Group I as normal controls only given food and drink , Group II is a solvent control each test animals were given an aqueous suspension of 1% CMC-Na, group III were each given ethanol extract of green algae (Ulva lactuca L.) at a dose of 100mg/kgBB orally, group III were each given ethanol extract of green algae (Ulva lactuca L.) at a dose of 200mg/kgBB, and group IV as comparison control were each given tablet Curcuma at a dose of 200mg/kgBB. All groups were treated for 21 days orally. On day 22 were given injections of CCl4 1.0mL/ kg intraperitoneally except Group I. The rats blood was taken and analyzed through eye orbitalis sinus AST and ALT activities. The results were statistically analyzed using One Way ANOVA test followed by LSD test with level of 95%.From the study it can be concluded that ethanolic extract of green algae (Ulva lactuca L.) has hepatoprotective effect of being able to reduce activities of SGOT and SGPT in CCl4-induced white male rats

Background : The exposure of free radicals can induce oxidative stress. In the liver, this process will cause impaired liver function. Oxidative stress can be inhibited by antioxidants. Arrowroot tubers (Maranta arundinacea) contains phenolic, flavonoid, alkaloids and saponin compound that are potential as antioxidants. Objective : Determine the effect of ethanolic extract of arrowroot tubers (Maranta arundinacea) against oxidative stress using the parameter of MDA, SGPT and SGOT level in ethanol-induced rats. Methods : Animal models were divided into 5 groups, in which each group contained 6 rats. Group I (normal) and group II (control) was induced with CMC Na 0,5%. Group III, IV and V were given ethanolic extract of arrowroot tubers in the dosage of 125, 250 and 500 mg/Kg/day respectively. The extract was administered orally for 14 days. Induction of ethanol 5 gram/ KgBW was administered orally 1 hour after the last administration on day 14th except for group I. On day 15th, the animal blood was drawn to measure the levels of SGPT and SGOT, then the animals were sacrificed and their organs were analyzed to measure the levels of MDA in the liver. Data obtained in the form of MDA, SGPT and SGOT levels were statistically analyzed using ANOVA. Results : There is statistically significant difference between the utilization of ethanolic extract of arrowroot tubers (Maranta arundinacea) group with the control group in reducing the concentration of MDA (p<0,05), SGPT, and SGOT (p<0,05). Conclusions : The ethanolic extract of arrowroot tubers (Maranta arundinacea) is able to reduce the concentration of MDA, SGPT and SGOT in ethanol-induced rats

The highes of the dengue fever cases make the society have to control the spread of the dengue virus with avoid and decrease contact and mosquito bite. In find the natural resource that has repellant effect, have been done repellant research effect with volatile oil combines from Curcuma xanthorrhiza rhizome and Zingiber officinale rhizome to Aedes aegypti. Volatile oil of Curcuma xanthorrhiza rhizome and Zingiber officinale rhizome were isolated using steam and water destilation method. The test composition made with different concentration, that are 2% v/b, 5% v/b, 10% v/b, 15% v/b, 20% v/b, and 25% v/b. The positive control is repellant DEET 12,5% and the negative control is unguentum leniens base. The method of this test is “Comparative Efficacy of Insect Repellent against Mosquito Bites” which modified. Repellant effect analyzed from refusal time, that is mosquito\u27s bite in the first time. The research result is higher concentration of volatile oil followed by increasing of refusal time on Aedes aegypti. Repelant with 25% v/b concentration (the biggest concentration) were the best preparation and good in standard as repellent. It caused that concentration had longest refusal time. Key word: volatile oil, Aedes aegypti, unguentum leniens, repellan
