TOP-INDUCED ELECTROWEAK BREAKING IN THE MINIMAL SUPERSYMMETRIC STANDARD MODEL

    Get PDF
Severe constraints on parameters of the minimal supersymmetric standard model follow from a dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking mechanism dominated by top and stop loops. In particular, the lightest Higgs boson mass is expected to be smaller than 100 GeV.Comment: 10 pages, Latex, 6 Postcript Figure

Survival before annihilation in Psi-prime decays

We extend the simple scenario for Ψ\Psi' decays suggested a few years ago. The ccˉc\bar c pair in the Ψ\Psi' does not annihilate directly into three gluons but rather survives before annihilating. An interesting prediction is that a large fraction of all Ψ\Psi' decays could originate from the Ψηc(3π)\Psi' \to \eta_{c} (3\pi) channel which we urge experimentalists to identify. Our model solves the problem of the apparent hadronic excess in Ψ\Psi' decays as well as the ρπ\rho\pi puzzle since, in our view, the two-body decays of the Ψ\Psi' are naturally of electromagnetic origin. Further tests of this picture are proposed, e.g. J/Ψb1ηJ/\Psi \to b_{1}\eta.Comment: 6 pages, no figur

Ultra-Low Noise Microwave Extraction from Fiber-Based Optical Frequency Comb

In this letter, we report on all-optical fiber approach to the generation of ultra-low noise microwave signals. We make use of two erbium fiber mode-locked lasers phase locked to a common ultra-stable laser source to generate an 11.55 GHz signal with an unprecedented relative phase noise of -111 dBc/Hz at 1 Hz from the carrier. The residual frequency instability of the microwave signals derived from the two optical frequency combs is below 2.3 10^(-16) at 1s and about 4 10^(-19) at 6.5 10^(4)s (in 5 Hz bandwidth, three days continuous operation).Comment: 12 pages, 3 figure

Remote frequency measurement of the 1S0-3P1 transition in laser cooled Mg-24

    Get PDF
We perform Ramsey-Bord\'e spectroscopy on laser-cooled magnesium atoms in free fall to measure the 1S0 \rightarrow 3P1 intercombination transition frequency. The measured value of 655 659 923 839 730 (48) Hz is consistent with our former atomic beam measurement (Friebe et al 2008 Phys. Rev. A 78 033830). We improve upon the fractional accuracy of the previous measurement by more than an order of magnitude to 7e-14. The magnesium frequency standard was referenced to a fountain clock of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) via a phase-stabilized telecom fiber link and its stability was characterized for interrogation times up to 8000 s. The high temperature of the atomic ensemble leads to a systematic shift due to the motion of atoms across the spectroscopy beams. In our regime, this leads to a counterintuitive reduction of residual Doppler shift with increasing resolution. Our theoretical model of the atom-light interaction is in agreement with the observed effect and allows us to quantify its contribution in the uncertainty budget.Comment: 16 pages, 8 figures. Precision determination of band offsets in strained InGaAs/GaAs quantum wells by C-V-profiling and Schroedinger-Poisson self-consistent simulation

The results of measurements and numerical simulation of charge carrier distribution and energy states in strained quantum wells In_xGa_{1-x}As/GaAs (0.06 < x < 0.29) by C-V-profiling are presented. Precise values of conduction band offsets for these pseudomorphic QWs have been obtained by means of self-consistent solution of Schroedinger and Poisson equations and following fitting to experimental data. For the conduction band offsets in strained In_xGa_{1-x}As/GaAs - QWs the expression DE_C(x) = 0.814x - 0.21x^2 has been obtained.Comment: 9 pages, 12 figures, RevTeX

Representations of the quantum matrix algebra Mq,p(2)M_{q,p}(2)

    Get PDF
It is shown that the finite dimensional irreducible representaions of the quantum matrix algebra Mq,p(2) M_{ q,p}(2) ( the coordinate ring of GLq,p(2) GL_{q,p}(2) ) exist only when both q and p are roots of unity. In this case th e space of states has either the topology of a torus or a cylinder which may be thought of as generalizations of cyclic representations.Comment: 20 page

Lett. 105, 151105 (2014) and may be found at https://doi.org/10.1063/1.4898010.High-brightness edge-emitting semiconductor lasers having a vertically extended waveguide structure emitting in the 1060 nm range are investigated. Ridge waveguide (RW) lasers with 9 μm stripe width and 2.64 mm cavity length yield highest to date single transverse mode output power for RW lasers in the 1060 nm range. The lasers provide 1.9 W single transverse mode optical power under continuous-wave (cw) operation with narrow beam divergences of 9° in lateral and 14° (full width at half maximum) in vertical direction. The beam quality factor M2 is less than 1.9 up to 1.9 W optical power. A maximum brightness of 72 MWcm−2sr−1 is obtained. 100 μm wide and 3 mm long unpassivated broad area lasers provide more than 9 W optical power in cw operation.DFG, 43659573, SFB 787: Halbleiter - Nanophotonik: Materialien, Modelle, Bauelement
