    Unit Mixed Interval Graphs

    Get PDF
In this paper we extend the work of Rautenbach and Szwarcfiter by giving a structural characterization of graphs that can be represented by the intersection of unit intervals that may or may not contain their endpoints. A characterization was proved independently by Joos, however our approach provides an algorithm that produces such a representation, as well as a forbidden graph characterization

COSMOS 2044: Lung morphology study, experiment K-7-28

Researchers examined the effect of microgravity during spaceflight on lung tissue. The ultrastructure of the left lungs of 5 Czechoslovakian Wister rats flown on the 13 day, 19+ hour Cosmos 2044 mission was examined and compared to 5 vivarium and 5 synchronous controls at 1-g conditions, and 5 rats exposed to 14 days of tail suspension. Pulmonary hemorrage and alveolar adema of unknown origin occurred to a greater extent in the flight, tail-suspended, and synchronous control animals, and in the dorsal regions of the lung when compared with the vivarium controls. The cause of these changes, which are possibly due to an increase in pulmonary vascular pressure, requires further investigation

Radio Polarisation Study of High Rotation Measure AGNs

As radio polarised emission from astrophysical objects traverse through foreground magnetised plasma, the physical conditions along the lines of sight are encrypted in the form of Rotation Measure (RM). We performed broadband spectro-polarimetric observations of high Rotation Measure (|RM| >~ 300 rad m-2) sources away from the Galactic plane (|b| > 10 deg) selected from the NVSS RM catalogue. The main goals are to verify the NVSS RM values, which could be susceptible to n{\pi}-ambiguity, as well as to identify the origin of the extreme RM values. We show that 40 % of our sample suffer from n{\pi}-ambiguity in the NVSS RM catalogue. There are also hints of RM variabilities over ~20 years epoch for most of our sources, as revealed by comparing the RM values of the two studies in the same frequency ranges after correcting for n{\pi}-ambiguity. At last, we demonstrate the possibility of applying QU-fitting to study the ambient media of AGNs.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures; Accepted by MDPI Galaxies; Conference Proceedings for the Polarised Emission from Astrophysical Jets meeting on June 12-16 2017, Ierapetra, Greec

Implementing a graduate nursing program at a distance through an urban-rural partnership.

The purposes of this poster presentation are to 1) describe the implementation of a master’s of science in nursing (MSN) program by providing access to rigorous distance education to students living in rural Pennsylvania; 2) discuss building a critical mass of master’s prepared advanced practice nurse experts in rural communities; and 3) share formative and summative evaluation information. Through funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, Bureau of Health Professions, Division of Nursing, the Jefferson School of Nursing (JSN) expanded its MSN program currently offered at the urban Philadelphia campus to the rural campus in Danville. Using the methodologies of live web-casting and live video over the Internet, distance students are afforded the opportunity to participate in a live classroom setting rather than experience the static distance methodology of reading through lectures themselves. For example, during the clinical courses, the faculty teaches onsite in Philadelphia webcasting to students in their rural homes so that they can view and hear the lecture. These newer technologies make possible real-time faculty-student dialogue, student-to-student dialogue, and enhance socialization. Furthermore, the use of advanced technologies allows distance students to discuss with peers and faculty alike, in real time, the problems, successes, and questions which arise during class and clinical practica, thereby enhancing critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills. This urban-rural partnership addresses increasing demands for educating greater numbers of master’s prepared advanced practice nurses to work in north and central rural Pennsylvania thus promoting access to health care in rural underserved communities
