Mastering internal communication: Knowledge foundations and postgraduate education

Despite its importance to employee engagement and organisational effectiveness, little scholarly attention has been paid to internal communication education. Consequently there is a vacuum in guidance on particular knowledge required for effective internal communication practice. To tackle this gap, this empirical article analyses data collected in an online survey of communication professionals. The article contributes an empirically based specialist framework for internal communication knowledge, with components beyond those found in generalist frameworks

Internal communication education: A historical study

This historical analysis investigates treatment of the important discipline of internal communication in a number of globally influential public relations education frameworks over time. Developing this insight is important since it has the potential to inform future professional development programmes. The conceptual framework for the study is set via discussion of the historical approach, internal communication, professionalization and knowledge. The historical analysis research methodology is used to study data sources including professional body reports and archival documentation. Deductive and inductive coding is combined with template analysis to ensure rigorous qualitative data analysis. The study finds inconsistent treatment of the internal communication discipline in public relations education frameworks over time. Distinct inclusion was found in early frameworks, clear recognition of the growing importance of internal communication was evident in later guidelines, but the study discovers that the discipline has been excluded from recent frameworks. While the study draws on relevant data sources credited with international influence, it is limited to sources published in English. Practical educational and methodological implications of the research are discussed along with avenues for further research including surveys or qualitative research to investigate contemporary views held by practitioners and educators on internal communication curricula. Social and management implications are discussed including a call for the reinstatement of internal communication in globally influential public relations education frameworks. The discipline of internal communication is still understudied which is surprising given its impact on organisational effectiveness. Furthermore, little previous attention has been paid to the history of internal communication education. This article tackles that void, finds inconsistent treatment of the discipline in education frameworks over time, and contributes discussion on why these inconsistencies have occurred

Burnout among mental health counseling and art therapy professionals has long been an issue (Meyerson 1998; Prins et al., 2015; Yang & Hayes, 2020; Zeira 2021). While previous research into the causes and reduction of burnout have focused primarily on individual burnout, both in terms of psychology and workplace habits (Rollins et al. 2021), very few studies have been done examining the systemic, institutional, and cultural contributions to burnout in these professions. The largest part of the collection consists of financial records dealing with the designing and manufacturing of the products made and sold by Frankie Welch of America. Frankie Welch, born Mary Frances Barnett (1923- ), was a fashion designer and a former Distinguished Visiting Professor of Merchandising and Design in the School of Consumer Science at Winthrop College from 1982 through 1985. Evolution of professional enforcement in Texas : An examination of violations and sanctions

The purpose of this paper is to examine the enforcement of the Texas Rules of Professional Conduct (Rules) from 1946 to 1978. This period encompasses the early regulation of the Texas accounting profession after the passage of the Texas Public Accountancy Act (Act) in 1945. The Act and accompanying Rules remained in effect until 1979, when the Texas legislature enacted new accountancy legislation which inaugurated a more regulatory era. Results indicate that enforcement of the Rules of Conduct was a process evolving over time as both the state and professional political systems impacted the behavior of the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. During the period under study, internal professional competition between certified public accountants and non-certified public accountants surfaced as a substantial explanatory factor behind rule promulgation and enforcement. Violators differed from non-violators in level of education, type of training, and type of practice. In total numbers, certified public accountants were subject to more hearings and sanctions than non-certified public accountants. However, in accordance with expectations, the public accountants received a disproportionate share of alleged violations and sanctions. Violations implying practice incompetence and those impairing professional integrity were subject to more severe disciplinary actions, but the Board heard more competitive behavior allegations than those involving malpractice

Ready or Not? UConn Extension Disaster and Emergency Preparedness

We conducted an attitude and opinion survey of UConn Extension personnel regarding workplace and home emergency preparedness. Our primary focus was on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Respondents were aware of the benefits of knowing CPR, with a majority having taken a CPR course. Respondents were generally aware of the benefits of knowing how to use AEDs, but only a minority had had AED training. They indicated a preference for home over workplace preparedness training, although they recognized workplace preparedness as important. These findings suggest that emergency and disaster education be focused on home preparedness, which will result in workplace preparedness too
